He had accomplished something, and for just a moment a surge of hope raced through him. There was almost a sense of cheer when she passed something off to Alexander and not him, not that he would admit it out loud.
Then she pulled something else out, and started moving it toward him. He was about to panic at the thought of having to read, but when he opened it there were more pictures. That in mind he could at least give it a shot he supposed. He nodded, plucking at the pages with a sense of despair, and then finally, finally settled in. If he had to do it, he had to do it.
And actually...flowers were not that bad. The wilting leaves were okay, and it was much more natural that having some sort of band about. He started marking pages of flowers and then just kept going, picking basically anything green that seemed to catch his fancy.
Then he came to a dead halt, staring down at the page in front of him, and a smile twitched at his mouth. Whatever these cat-cusses were he liked them. He liked them a lot. All pointy looking, and he was willing to bet that with they could find something that could look a bit more sinister judging by the spines on some of the options available. He slid the book a bit closer to Alexander, an unspoken invitation to stop everything he was doing to look at what Yin was looking at.

Alexander hardly paid his fiance any mind as she began reading down the lists of available foods, fingers tracing along, smudging up the paperwork with the blood and grease of his very recent meal. Making a grab for a nearby pen, he began marking off various dishes, all very much meat based, and at least half of which featuring brains, flipping through pages, caring very little for the fact that he was likely going completely overboard.
At this point, he barely even cared. He had been dragging his heels, metaphorically now and literally before they had even arrived, because all of this was so much more work then the would ever be interested in doing.
Looking up only he noticed the book sliding his way out of the corner of his eye, Alex looked over, glancing up at Yin and back down to the page before smiling. Cacti? Why not. It was interesting, and original, and fit the color scheme nicely.
"I like it." He said, in a hushed tone, as if what they were doing had suddenly become a private affair now that his mother was just leaving them to making some few decisions without any interruptions.
Marking off a few more things on his own list with barely a glance, he pushed his book away.
"Done. And I do mean I'm done." He looked up at his mom, his gaze narrowed, his typical smile and easygoing nature dropping. "You can decide on the rest. I am certain that we've covered all of the main, and most important, aspects." He concluded, with a glance towards Yin, a question in his gaze as though asking the other boil if he agreed.
It had felt like they had been there for hours. An entire day, completely wasted on pointless nonsense.
...It had really only been two hours.

Oh thank Jack, Yin was as ready to get the hell out of there as Alex was. More so, it seemed, as he all but darted towards the door, his wings abuzz and his feet practically hovering off of the ground. Dropping the serious act, he gave his mom a broad grin, and pushed back his own chair, rising up out of his seat and shuffling his way out of the confined area that had been his seat for the last couple of hours (though that had at least been interrupted briefly by a bathroom break).
"Dinner another time, perhaps? We have a lot of studying to do. For graduation." He half-truthed, while backing his way towards the door.
He could tell his mom wanted to protest. He could see the twitching at the corners of her mouth, her hand half raised.
Alex had never moved so quickly towards an open door in all of his unlife as he did in that moment, stumbling past Yin to get out into the hallway as he shouted out a hasty. "GOODBYE!"
