"A little dog, today known as "Potato Chip," is recovering from severe trauma. The dog, a Chihuahua, was left alone for nearly two months after his guardian was murdered at her Mission Hills, Calif., home.

On Tuesday, the rescue organization, The Pepper Foundation, took the senior dog under their wing after being contacted by girls who had discovered that the little dog was living alone in the backyard of an unoccupied house.

Until the rescue organization stepped in, nobody was able to get near the terrified dog who was struggling just to stay alive.

Potato Chip's trauma started back in mid-December after his guardian was stabbed to death by her grandson, 22-year-old Joe Calderon. According to the Los Angeles Times, the woman, whose name was not released, was in her 70s.

Inexplicably, following the tragedy, the surviving family members packed up and moved away, leaving the little dog behind with one bowl of food and some water.

Though Potato Chip is now safe, he is still suffering from the trauma of being abandoned.

Aside from his fear issues, he appears to have an upper respiratory infection, infected teeth and possibly, a urinary tract infection.

The Pepper Foundation is dedicated to providing the veterinary care that Potato Chip needs to recuperate from his ordeal.
