[Duel] Nasiha vs. Xiuhcoatl

	Despite her excellence in battle, Nasiha had not taken much active interest in the the on-going war. Her reluctance fueled mostly by the desire to fade into the background after the mess she and her friends had arrived in, accusations of murder were not something she wanted to be known for. She and Mtenga had overcome their trouble from the whole debacle, so she had happily stuck around with him, waiting to be mostly forgotten. When it happened, she got comfortable. So she stayed in line and she stayed happy. That was all she needed. It was hard to say how she had made any friends but eventually she did. Xiuhcoatl was probably her only close friend and, since they didn't share the same profession, if they wanted to meet during typical training hours, they dueled. It was almost part of the routine for Nasiha now. With the trouble with the Hongshan and the Nergui, the routine as sometimes interrupted by necessary calls away, but today was a lucky day they could meet up to chat. "I hope you've been practicing," she said, taking a spot opposite her friend.

	Xiuhcoatl was social enough, in part due to her large family, but she had few lions that would really call friends. It was why she enjoyed her frequent duels with Nasiha-- and it didn't hurt that she might have liked to become a soldier had she not been trying to follow after her father or progressed nicely as a guard. Guards were trained in battle, of course, but it wasn't the primary focus of their job. This helped keep her ready for if it did become necessary and helped her to feel more well-rounded. "It's only been a couple of days," she said in an airy tone, though smiling, "I haven't regressed simply because we've been a bit busier lately." Actually they were a lot busier lately, but life went on around it. She took a few steps back as Nasiha got into her place, counted to three while digging her claws into the sand and nodded.

	Move: Hit! Nasiha laughed and then watched as Xiu moved her claws through the sand. It was as dry a day as any, the area they were in slightly less used than the busier areas of the pride, their footing would be slightly less stable because of it but overall they ought to be used to it in the desert. When her opponent nodded, she nodded back and leaped forward. It was the same opening move they always did, just this time it was her turn to start and Xiu's turn to react. Pouncing was a good way to get to your opponent with some momentum, though perhaps not as much as if you got a running start. Her claws extended, she aimed to knock her friend to the ground. Total: 3

	Move: Hit! Xiu was ready for the tackle but it took a lot of focus not to react too soon. It was something of a joke from the typical 'learn to anticipate your opponent's next move' lesson every member of every army ever learned. As soon as she saw Nasiha's paws leave the ground, she ducked down until the white lioness was coming down at her. She was definitely on target and no matter how Xiuhcoatl followed through, she was going to get hurt fighting against the momentum. She pushed up herself up, using her head and front paws to push Nasiha off and away before she could really touch back down and steady herself again. If it didn't work, she was going to be stuck pinned face-first into the sand.. but seeing if she was strong and quick enough to pull it off in private was better than in a public training session. 	Move: Bide! It was a surprise to Nasiha when Xiu ducked, primarily because she was still going to be hit- Nasiha wasn't aiming high enough to fly right over her. She was very nearly to the ground when she felt a sudden surprising push that sent her to the sand. Her claws scraped on the dark lioness's shoulders as she tried not to let it happen but soon she hit the sand. "Should have expected that," she groaned, pushing back up to her feet, shaking the sand out of her fur and beginning to circle around her oppoent. Her mind had to work faster if she was going to make split-second decisions mid-air and now she was stuck walking it off for a moment. "Learned anything new the last few days?" Total: 5

	Move: Hit! For a few seconds, Xiu was sure she was seeing stars from pushing against all of Nasiha's on-coming weight but she shook it off easily enough. As the white lioness circled, she turned and circled opposite. It would be foolish to turn her back in the midst of a duel and she didn't need to be a soldier to know that. "Not much that's useful in a duel with you," she said, smiling, "It's tough keeping up with the details of everything going on around here." She wasn't the best at it but she tried- much harder than Nasiha did. Tired of circling, she took her turn to leap forward to Nasiha- not aiming to tackle her but land in front of her and reach out from there. If she would try to trip, push or scratch her would depend entirely on how her opponent reacted. Total: 6

	Move: Miss! Nasiha jumped back half a step when Xiu suddenly came jumping forward, obviously not moving fast enough to bowl right into her but planning to push their battle into a smaller space. Instinct won as she reacted, lifting up a paw and aimed for Xiu's face in hopes of preventing any immediate attacks now that they were so close together. Total: 6

	Move: Bide! The chance was as good as any so, in one continuous motion, Xiu ducked down below Nasiha's paw before it could hit her and lifting up her own paw to knock down the black-striped leg that held Nasiha upright. It would have been impossible to miss and she had no time to decide if she would back away while Nasiha fell or stay where she was, hoping it would throw the white lioness off more to have to worry about landing on a lioness that had shown she could push her away from underneath. Ultimately, she decided to stay where she was, ducked but ready to keep moving. Total: 8

	Move: Hit! She could feel the mistake she made almost immediately as Xiu dropped out of sight and knocked her one remaining leg out from beneath her. She wasn't going to let herself fall directly down, though, and without a thought to where Xiu moved (or didn't), she pushed herself to the side and rolled over quickly to jump to her feet. A second of hesitation owing to dizziness bought Xiu some time to react but once she was sure of which direction she was moving, she shifted her weight to her front legs and leaped, aiming to pin the dark lioness before she could get off the ground again. Total: 9

	Move: Bide! Though Nasiha hesitated after getting up to her feet, it wasn't enough time for Xiu to jump up and fight back. She pressed against the ground and moved to roll away from the pounce but she was too slow. While she got far enough to avoid a duel-ending pin at the shoulders, Nasiha was soon weighing her down from the middle and it was in such an awkward position there was no simple way to twist around and fight back. "Now you've got me!" she cried dramatically, but still tense enough to show she wasn't really done. Total: 10

	Move: Hit! "I really turned this around, didn't I?" she chuckled. Now it was time for Xiu to either push her off or give in. If Nasiha hadn't managed to pin her at the last second then it would certainly have been Xiu's match to lose, she had the upper paw almost the entire time! But now, here they were. "Give up!" she demanded, lifting a paw and aiming for Xiu's nose. Total: 12

	Move: Miss! "I'll say," Xiu grumbled, glaring at her friend and slowly starting to struggle to see if she could loosen Nasiha's hold on her-- but it wasn't working. When suddenly there was a paw coming at her face, she made one last effort to move and strike back but she failed. Then Nasiha had a paw on her muzzle and was pushing her head down. Just as her nose hit the sand, she relaxed, submissive. "Alright, alright!" she said, "You win." Total: 11

	Winner: Nasiha! Nasiha laughed triumphantly and moved her paw to push up from the sand and off of Xiu. Soon the pair were both standing, shaking the sand from their fur and shaking their heads at the ridiculous end to what should have been a more serious duel. "That was fierce," Nasiha commented. "Certainly something to brag about," Xiu agreed sarcastically, trusting Nasiha wouldn't actually go around describing exactly how this match had ended. The pride-mind wouldn't see a duel ending with a face pushed in the sand as anything but an opportunity for ridicule- at least, that was what Xiu thought. Regardless, it was good practice, stress relief and a nice change of pace from all the current serious concerns of the Firekin. Fin!
