He had a right mind to tell the hunters they weren't doing their jobs today. The food pile was empty, save for a few bits and scraps that the birds were doing their damndest to steal away. But he had no desire for scraps, or to fight with birds. He wanted something fresh. He would be better off, however, hunting for himself rather than yelling at the hunters. If he was the Pirate King, he would tell them what was up. But he wasn't, and he had to resort to his own measures..

Problem was, he didn't like hunting. Not only that, but he wasn't too good at it. Killing, that was something he was good at. So was stealing, lying, and manipulating. But hunting had just never made it as a skill he had nailed down. Likely because his energies were spent on acquiring the throne from his father.

So first things first. He needed to find someone who would be good at hunting.. Though the only other person he would tolerate help from was his sister. He wasn't sure how she did with hunting, but two heads were better than one in this situation.

He needed to find Joya.

Actually, Joya wasn't much of a huntress, but she was good at getting what she wanted. So if she wanted fresh meat or a pretty trinket or even company, she usually got it. Mostly she achieved her ends through a combination of flirtation and implied threats of violence from Teech, who she never bothered to inform about these things. If it came down to it, she could take care of things herself. So far no one had forced her to do so though.

Her thoughts were not centered on food or hunting at the moment though. She was thinking about a strange cheetah who was a hunter in the pride and went by the name Honey. He wanted something from her, but she didn't know what. She didn't like not knowing what people wanted form her.

And so she was brooding on the matter, trying to figure out what the cheetah was plotting.

When his eyes landed on his sister, he stood a bit taller and cleared his throat. He walked tall, with pride, and a touch of arrogance. He didn't fear anyone, not really. It was probably a flaw in him, but he didn't much care. He also didn't care if his sister used him for her threats. He didn't care about any of it. He respected his sister, for what it was worth. His respect didn't get you very far.

"Joya." He greeted, nodding his head and taking a seat next to her. Shew as deep in thought, though he was curious as to what she was thinking about, it was likely he wouldn't be asking. Instead he decided to start with formality.

"What have you been up to?" He asked, his tail sashaying around him. She was a collector of trinkets. She loved them. She was a true pirate in that sense.

"Teech," she replied, inclining her head in acknowledgment of his greeting. She smiled and put aside her thoughts of what the strange cheetah might be planning. She could wonder about that some other time. Right now her brother wanted her attention, and he was more important.

"Nothing important, or even all that interesting," Joya answered. "What about you? Have you put together a crew that you like yet?"

She had been watching with some interest as her brother put his crew together, but lately she'd been out of the loop. There were some power struggles going on among the corsairs and she had been forced to remind people of who she was and her place in the pride.

He didn't question about what she was doing further. Instead he started thinking about her question. His crew he was putting together was off the record. He had told no one but her, and the lions he had recruited. When the time came to try to overthrow his father, he was going to have strength behind him.

He smiled deviantly and nodded. "Father won't know what hit him when I'm done." He said. He wasn't even nervous about the battle. He knew that he could overtake father. Whether he could or not, remained to be seen, but he believed with all his heart he could.

"Then I'll get what's coming to me." He turned and looked over at her, before lowering himself to the earth.

Joya grinned. In their youth, their father had treated her more like the special jewel that she was, contributing majorly to her unshakeable belief that she was an important person who deserved the best things in life. With each litter of his that turned up, her uniqueness and importance was threatened.

"I look forward to that," she said. "But this isn't the place to discuss it."

She had stopped loving their father some time ago, when she realized that he didn't understand the law of supply and demand, and kept supplying the pride with more of his offspring than the demand called for.

That's why he liked Joya. She was smart.. This wasn't the place to discuss it, though he couldn't contain the excitement over the matter. His crew was a bunch of rough, motley creatures. He was proud, though he knew they wouldn't be anything until they defeated his father.. If they couldn't do that, then he would decide them to be useless.

"You be right." He responded, and felt his stomach gurgle again. He groaned, and looked at his sister. He was hoping she would decide to help him out with a meal. Though.. He knew she wasn't the best hunter either. Two heads, and mouths full of sharp fangs, were better than one.

Joya noticed Teech's stomach grumbling, but rather than comment sardonically as she might have done with anyone else, she approached the matter more carefully. It would not do to imply that Teech was subject to normal weaknesses like hunger or weariness.

"I'm feeling a bit peckish," she observed. "Perhaps we might talk more openly on the hunt. If you don't mind coming with me? You know what kind of a huntress I am."

It was second nature to her to speak so that it was only her weakness that was displayed. She only spoke like that around Teech, because he was important enough to her that she was willing to spare his feelings and support his ego, even at the expense of her own.

Whether she was truly hungry, or just hearing the irritation in his belly, Blackbeard didn't know. That being said, he didn't much care either. So long as she didn't point out that he couldn't hunt very well, he was okay. He was a tempermental guy on his best day, though he seemed to do a fairly good job of maintaining a decent relationship with his sibling.. She was the only one he thought had any brains out of his family.

"Aye, I'll go. I could use the time away.." He said, and looked at her with a chuckle. He knew that she was about as good a hunter as he, but he wasn't going to rub it in. He could have though... and had it been anyone else, he would have.

He stood, and began walking towards the forest line. They'd have to travel through there before hunting would be possible, but he didn't mind. The trees kept secrets, and they could indeed walk while talking through there... If they did it quietly.

Joya nodded. It wasn't exactly thanks that she offered him, merely acknowledgement of the time and attention he was granting her that he could have bestowed elsewhere. She was aware that he had chosen her company over his other options and that pleased her, but she wasn't going to be effusive and weird about it. She knew that she was his favorite sibling.

"Between the two of us we'll surely have a successful hunt," she said with a smirk. Between the two of them they'd probably manage to scare off every preybeast within hearing. Stealth was for people who had reason to be afraid enough to avoid detection. Neither one of them was that.

Joya fell into step beside her brother, walking toward the forest as he was doing. There were plans to be discussed, and although she did not play much of a role in his plans for taking over the pride from their father, she liked to know what he was planning. She might be able to offer some insight or suggestions that hadn't occurred to him yet.

He nodded, grinning mischeviously as he went. He was going to go far, he just knew it. He could -feel- it.

"Aye, sister. I think you just may be right." He nodded, and dissappeared into the foliage of the forest. He was going to enjoy talking this over with Joya.. She was the only other creature he'd share his secrets with.

He was ready to get his plan in motion..
