It had been quite some moons since her cubs had left for their pilgrimage, and as patient as she was trying to be, it was hard for Kianira to show her patience. They would always be her little cubs to her, and though they would return with proper-proportioned bodies and full manes, the purple lioness wasn't certain that she would see them as adults.

Unless they came home with mates, of course. Then she could properly panic.

She was a morning lioness, so by the time the late morning arrived, it felt like a lot of her day was gone. Sticky, muddy paws no longer bothered her, but it was nice to escape the mud by ways of a moss-covered log.

"Perfect perch," she purred to herself as she nestled into the soft, mildly moist moss.

The perch in question was above what Nagua had taken to thinking of as "his" mud pool. Every day, around this time, he slipped out of his mother's den to come and play in it. He'd push it around, mound it up and splat it down and generally become utterly filthy in a surprisingly short amount of time.

This was always good when he made it back home, because then he could share the mud with his siblings. Especially Zerrin and Laanfa, whose light colored fur was just screaming for some darkness.

The cub was surprised to see that there was another lion already at his mud hole when he arrived, though the big purple adult was on top of a nearby log, rather than in the mud itself.

"Oh! Hi!"

Kianira wasn't anywhere near sleeping, but it was one of the more relaxing places she had found recently. She may have to show it to Jitokeza later...at least she was thinking that until a little cubbish voice broke the (relative) silence.

Her deep golden eyes blinked at the bright teal and black sight. "Oh, hello," she said sweetly, her smile slowly growing. "What is a cute little thing like you doing out here all on your own?" The swamp wasn't that dangerous in some areas, but it was always good to have adult eyes on the cubs. Best that they not get into too much trouble, or into something they couldn't handle.

"Playing in the mud," Nagua answered the older lion with a grin. She seemed like a nice lady, though he'd never seen anyone quite so purple before. Then again, sometimes it was hard to tell he and his brothers and sisters were related, they looked so little like each other.

"Did you want to play with me?" he asked, not really noticing how the adult had carefully perched on the clean moss of the log, not even her tailtip touching the mud below.

Oh boy. Mud seemed to be the best play accessory for the cubs around here. It seemed rare when there was a cub or two that didn't like to be in the mud, as it was just a part of life in the swamps. A mother's worst nightmare.

"What sort of games do you play in the mud?" she asked. Kianira wondered how much imagination he had. Some of her boys....hadn't, which had been a little amusing for the social, happy lioness.

Nagua cocked his head up at the older lioness. She wanted to know what games he played? Didn't want to just dive right in? That seemed odd to him, but whatever, grownups did what they wanted and it wasn't always easy for cubs to understand them.

"Well, sometimes there's treasure and you have to dig for it," the boy told her. "And sometimes you want to build a mountain of it...but then the spirits get angry and you have to knock it down. And other times it's a blanket that you wrap up in!" He liked the last one the best. Sometimes between the water and the filtered sunlight of the swamps, Nagua got cold, and mud kept out some of that. For a while, at least.

Kianira laughed. Well, at least he certainly knew how to have a little fun! It was a good distraction for her, a bit. It made her miss her cubs being that young. She wished at least one of them would come home soon!

"Really? You don't go frog hunting in the mud?" she chuckled. "I'm surprised you've thought of all of that but not about frogs! Are they a little too slippery for you?" she teased, trying to see if he would get a little ruffled up at that.

She did finally get up off of her amazing perch to slip into the mud, her paws feeling it oozing between her toes.

Nagua gave the grownup lioness a confused look as she mentioned frogs. He knew what they were of course, little hoppy things that lived in the muddy water. But why would he hunt them?

"I come here to play with the mud, not the frogs," he told her solemly. But the cub's whole expression brightened as the purple lioness slipped off her log into the mud.

"So what game do you want to play?" he asked eagerly.

Most cubs she knew liked to hunt frogs...or at least attempt to hunt them. She mentally shrugged her shoulders, letting the surprise fade away. It reminded ehr that not everyone was the same. She herself was extremely outgoing, and almost smothering at times, while her mate...wasn't.

"How about....tail pounce?" she smiled. "I'll try to pin your tail down while you try to get mine!" This wouldn't be easy since his tail was so small compared to her's, but it would guarantee them both that they would be covered in mud soon.

"Okay!" Nagua agreed readily. It wasn't actually a game he'd played before and it didn't really have anything to do with mud, but it was something different and he had someone to play it with! Not to mention that he got to play it with an adult, which made it a grownup game!

The cub was so excited that his first pounce went completely wide and he landed facefirst in the mud. That was okay though. He got up again and readied himself to try again.

Grownup games were the best, he was certain of it.
