The brown and green cub was out for a morning adventure. What kind of adventure, he was not sure, but it would be fun, he knew that much. His bright green tufts of fur flowed wildly as a gust of wind caught him. He beamed. He loved this place, he couldn't imagine ever leaving it, and he was certainly pleased that many of the rogues were making it their home. He knew it was the best place to live, and now others did too.

Blue eyes looked about to see if anyone was near, but he couldn't spot anyone his own age, and he didn't want to bother any of the older lions. Annoyed that there was no one around he could play with, Bayard sat down on a small rock. Perhaps something would come to him.

Mnong'ono hadn't been planning to stumble upon the Pridelands, it had simply happened. Though once she had found them she knew she would not leave. She was always so sure that she would remain a rogue her whole life, would never want to be tied down by the rules and regulations of the way of Pride life, but here, everything was perfect.

She was still in the process of becoming a member, but she had felt at home almost instantly, she was comfortable wherever she went. Happy to interact with the other members, though she was quick to rebuff any of the males if they indicated they were interested in more.

Today the golden lioness was out wandering the lands, familiarizing herself with it's layout.

As he looked about, the young lion cub noticed a bug fly out from the grass near by. It looked like a challenge! The boy had never tried hunting before, but it was never too early to start, right? He crouched down where he was and leaped in it's direction.

The bug flew away from his paws with ease. Bayard scowled. Perhaps this was harder then he thought. He then turned around, not wanting to give it another go when he noticed an adult lioness coming his way. He hoped she hadn't seen that. It would be embarrassing!

The lioness had noticed the cub and watched as he attempted to catch the beetle. She laughed, noting that he had a long way to go before he would be able to catch it. Still, perhaps she could assist him in his hunting skills. After all, she had been a rogue lioness her whole life, she had had to fend for herself and survive, and had picked up many skills along the way, including that of a successful hunt.

It wouldn't hurt, right?

"You, boy," she called out, trying to sound friendly. She was still new, she she didn't want to go upsetting any cubs who would go running back to their mothers.

"You did okay, but I can teach you to be better. If you want?" She smiled, wondering if he would take up her offer.

Bayard winced as she called out. She had seen his failure then. Drat. Oh well, at least now he had someone to talk to.

He listened as she offered him her help, and his eyes grew wide. "Could you really? That would be great!" He replied with much enthusiasm. Perhaps this was just the type of adventure he had been looking for. He wondered if she would teach him how to take down a waterbuck, or a zebra! He imagination was wild with the thought of all the hunting they might do. He had no idea that she would be simply teaching him the basics.

Cubs, always imagining things to be much grander than they actually are.

Mnong smiled as he agreed. She loved teaching young ones how to better themselves, and there seemed to be an abundance of youngsters in the Pridelands, that was for sure. The golden lioness had never seen so many. She was glad she had chosen this place to make her home. She could sense she would fit in well.

"Okay, the first thing you have to do is be quiet!" She commanded, back to business now. "There's no point trying to hunt something if you're making a whole lot of noise about it."

"Next you gotta keep downwind of your prey. That way they can't smell you." She nodded, years of living the rogue life had taught her that important fact.

"Gotcha!" He exclaimed, listening intently as she spoke. The bright green maned cub was very interested in what this lioness had to tell him. He wanted to be the best after all!

"Silent, downwind." He nodded as if he understood what she was talking about, even though he had no idea what downwind really meant, and he was anything but silent as his mother could probably attest to.

"Thanks," he said cheerily, happy to have met someone knew and learned something from it.

The lioness was happy to be of service. How much service was yet to be seen, but Mnong'ono was sure the little one would heed her words. She looked him over, trying to think of anything else she could tell him.

"At least you have the right coloring! Here the grass is so lush, your bright colors just blend in." She nodded approvingly, noting that out in the desert hers was more suited to blending, but the Pridelands were so lush, his green was quite suited.

Bayard listened, why, he hadn't even thought of that! The cub puffed out his chest in pride, like this new piece of information was a grand thing. He'd actually never really thought about his coloring, his family, and many of the others lions in the Pridelands, were bright, but the golden lioness definitely had a point.

He liked her, he decided.

"I will be your apprentice." He nodded, deciding that too. Mnong'ono had no choice, Bayard would be her tail wherever she went.

Mnong'ono laughed, cubs were certainly an interesting sort. She made a note to get to know some of the others, she hoped they would be as entertaining as Bayard here.

She cocked an eyebrow at his declaration.

"Oh? Well only if your parents say it's okay. And it wont be easy! I'm a tough task master." She laughed.

"Come on then, let's go practice."
