I think that you can read about something, enjoy the entertainment you get from it, and not immitate the characters in the book. Reading Harry Potter isn't what's bad; immitating Harry and the others is what's bad, whether it's saying spells or getting revenge. I don't think we should use it to teach our children how to behave, but, like most reading of fiction, I think it's a nice diversion.
However, I suppose if you believe that reading it would be bad, then it would be bad. Romans 14:22-23 (NLT) says:
Quote: You may believe there’s nothing wrong with what you are doing, but keep it between yourself and God. Blessed are those who don’t feel guilty for doing something they have decided is right. But if you have doubts about whether or not you should eat something, you are sinning if you go ahead and do it. For you are not following your convictions. If you do anything you believe is not right, you are sinning.
