Brass Bell Doll, which Japanese beings are you thinking of?

I'm afraid I forget the name. A classmate mentioned them in a comparison piece on Japanese folklore and works by the Brothers Grimm.

My recollection is that they were shadows that hide in other shadows until they catch their prey.
