Kivuli woke before the sun rose over the horizon. His eyes looked to Maua sleeping at his side, she looked so peaceful laying there that he didn't want to disturb her. It was still early and they wouldn't need to be up and about for a good amount of time now. Letting out a silent yawn Kivuli slowly and carefully raised himself to his feet, not wanting to wake Maua. Taking a few steps away he glanced back to make sure she was still sleeping before slipping out of their home. Most of the pride was still asleep this early in the morning but he did spot the odd lion out and about, tending to their morning duties.

Giving his mane a shake as he padded along in the crisp morning air his eyes stayed alert to anyone else that may be out at this time. After a short walk he found himself at the nearby watering hole. Lowering himself down he lapped up some water while his eyes scanned the horizon. Once his thirst was slaked he padded off away from the watering hole, finding a large rock, he jumped up onto of it and settled himself down to watch the sun rise.

Maua soon became aware of the Kivuli's absence, her side cooling with the lack of his body heat beside her. Blinking sleepy eyes she yawned and glanced around for him. She half expected to find him sitting somewhere nearby, he always seemed to rise before she did and lately she'd been sleeping even longer then usual. Which probably had something to do with her condition. The condition she hadn't told Kivuli about quite yet, though she knew she would have too shortly - lets face it something like this couldn't be hidden forever and she was quickly reaching that point.

She'd meant to tell him today. And Yesterday, and the day before. She wasn't exactly sure why she was putting it off, Maua was sure that Kivuli would be thrilled and in typical Maua fashion she decided to go and search him out. If he didn't do anything to tick her off and no other excuse not to rose its head - well maybe today would be the day she told him.

Rising silently she left their home in search of her wayward mate rather hoping he hadn't decided to wander off on one of his little patrols or whatever it was he called them no. Maua didn't feel much like chasing after him. in fact if his dark little hide wasn't someplace close - well he could just damn well wait till tomorrow to find out!

As the sun peaked over the horizon, Kivuli lay upon the rock watching it's golden and red rays scatter across the lands. It was something he had always enjoyed from the time he was a little cub, and he tried to come out and see it every morning. Occasionally there were obligations within the pride that he needed to attend to which meant that he missed it, but today was not one of those days.

His tail flickered about contently as he watched the sun slowly rise. Closing his eyes for a few moments, he took a few deep breathes, nothing was more relaxing than watching the sun rise...or the sun set for that matter. He would need to be getting back to Maua soon, but he decided to wait a few more minutes. After all he wasn't all that far away from their home and she was still asleep.

Maua decided the best course of action would be to make a round of all of Kivuli's favorite places - well within reason o course, she wasn't about to go galavanting off into the rogue lands anyways - not right now. That would just be irresponsible and foolish - and while she was at times those very things, tis would not be one of them.

Thankfully - for Kivuli - the darker lion lay at the second place Maua looked. she wasn't sure if he knew she was aware of his penchant for watching the sun come up but she was and silently she sprang up on the rock beside him. His eyes were closed though she knew he was not sleeping and with a soft rumble she rubbed her head along his furred side. "Lazing about this morning are we?"

Kivuli had heard another lion approaching but didn't open his eyes. He knew it was Maua was her scent. Opening his eyes he finally turned his head, giving her cheek a lick. "I wouldn't call this lazing my dear." He said with a chuckle. "Did I wake you when I left?" He asked, though he was sure he hadn't. If he had she probably would have yelled at him before he even made it out of their home.

Rolling to his side he laid there looking at her. The suns golden rays danced across the white of her fur. Soon enough they would need to go attend to various duties for the day, but for now it was just the two of them. Kivuli enjoyed the rare opportunities they had to be alone. Whether it was morning or night or on the really busy day a quick nuzzle in between meetings.

"Oh and what would you call it then?" She teased him with a slight arching of her brow as she took him in all splayed out on the rock doing nothing. It certainly looked like lazing about to her - not that she could blame him for it. Shouldering him aside a bit she lay down beside him tail flicking as she looked out across the pride lands before answering his second question.

"No, not when you left" she assured him - he'd been more careful lately, since she had yelled at him a week or so ago about waking her by accident one morning. "I merely missed your warmth" She continued, turning her gaze back upon him. "We need to talk" she confided after a few moments of just looking at him. She was pretty sure that statement would make him a bit nervous, but heck where was the fun of breaking this sort of news if she couldn't torment him at least a little bit?

Shifting his body over a bit to let her lay down he smiled at her. "I call it greeting the morning." Okay so maybe it was lazying about in a way, but what else would he do this early in the morning. Laze about in their home? Was their really any difference. Well at least she hadn't yelled at him so far. Of course as soon as he thought that he hear the words 'we need to talk' and instantly had a bad feeling.

Kivuli's ears flicked a bit. Oh dear what had he done now. He couldn't think of anything he had done in the last few days that had angered Maua. Unless she had held it in, which was very unlikely. Maua didn't hold back at yelling at him unless they were in the middle of the pride with too many prying ears and eyes. "Okay," he said. "What did you want to talk about?"

Maua could tell by the way his ear's flicked and the way his eyes for that far off look in them, like she was trying to recall something he had done, that her words had worried him and this thought made her smile inwardly somewhat. Maybe she was a wicked lion for stringing him along like this but well she just couldn't help herself and Kivuli made it so easy sometimes.

She scoffed slightly at his 'greeting the morning' comment - like the morning really cared if you woke up and said hello to it, but decided to let that pass by for now, she had more important topics to bring up. Turning her thoughts back to the present Maua gave him a serious solemn look - making it seem like she had some seriously bad news to tell him. The effort of so much acting made her want to knead her paws but she held this impulse in knowing it would give her away. "Well you recall that night we spent out on the rogue lands some time ago?"

His eyebrow raised a bit at the look that crossed her face. Oh no, he thought, whatever she wanted to talk about is going to be bad. Well then if it was bad news he would just have to accept it. He loved Maua and they would be able to overcome anything, no matter how bad it was. Kivuli considered her words carefully.

"Yes I remember that night." He said with a bit of a smile on his maw. How could he forget it? Then his smile faded a bit, not in a disappointed or mad way, no it faded in a thoughtful sort of way. Could it be? His mind quickly put two and two together, her mentioning at night and the whole 'we need to talk' thing. His jaw opened a bit as he looked at her? "Maua..." He began but just couldn't for the life of him finish what he wanted to say. He was pretty damn sure he knew what she was saying, but he couldn't put it into words.

Maua watched as Kivuli's mind processed what she was hinting at, she could tell the points during which he was severely worried about what she might be about to say - and the point where he managed to put two and two together. Though it seemed like he wasn't able to fully comprehend it. Typical male she thought to herself with a slight chuckle - struck dumb by the thought.

"Am I pregnant?" She finished the question for him with an amused look on her face "Yes..yes I think am" She finally confirmed with a slight dip of her head. Her eyes searching his for the true reaction - the one she would get once he overcame his shock and managed to form proper and complete sentences again.

The words rang through his mind. She was pregnant. His maw turned into a huge smile and his eyes held a twinkle of happiness. "You're pregnant." He said in a somewhat shocked but overjoyed voice. He jumped to his feet, though was careful not to bump Maua in doing so. "I'm going be a father." He said loudly. "Oh Maua, this is great!" He laid back down nice and close to her. Kivuli had always loved cubs, and now he would have some of his own soon. But he did ever so slightly wonder if Maua was happy about this. He pushed his fluffy purple mane into her.

Maua laughed slightly at her dark mates overjoyed expression and reaction to being a father - she'd always known he was fond of cubs and had expected him to be happy, even excited. His reaction did nto dissapoint. Though she herself was somewhat worried about the extra work this would bring into their lives she was excited as well. Cubs were important to the pride and bringing a litter to court would help raise their status just a little bit more - especially if they ere born with lots of purple on them. Which they would be - Maua would accept nothing less.

"Yes, yes it is" She agreed with Kivuli though she kept her thoughts about their status to herself , Kivuli didn't tend to think such things quite as important as she did and she doubted he would agree with the trail her thoughts were taking.

Kivuli sat close to Maua for a good deal of time as they watched the sun continue to rise in the sky. Today it felt extra special with the news she had given him. Cubs...oh he couldn't wait. Of course he knew it would be some time before they arrived but that only meant his excitement would grow with each day. He let out a sigh of content before finally turning his gaze back to Maua. "Come, we best be getting back. We can't be late for our duties."

Standing he gave his body a good shake, straightening out his mane before smiling down at Maua. Gods, she looked so beautiful. Carefully jumping off the rock he waited for her to come down as well before starting to head back to their home.

------------------------------------------

It had been quite a while since she had broken the news to Kivuli and the time had passed quickly, she had met her sister and brought her back into the pride, had fussed at Kivuli until their den was prepared. But everything was ready now and Maua had been anxiously awaiting the cubs arrival.

Of course anxiously awaiting their arrival and actually experiencing the process were two entirely different things and when a couple of sharp pains woke her in the middle of the night Maua quickly awoke Kivuli who slumbered nearby. It had not been a pleasant experience and Maua was glad it was over now as she looked down at the 6 precious bundles of fur now nursing greedily. They were all perfect and sweet...and marked with the color of nobles which was of course vastly important.

"They are perfect" She told Kivuli with a warm tone in her voice.

Kivuli had been waiting for this day for quite some time and now it was finally here. With a shake of his head he cleared the sleep from his mind and focused on Maua as she brought their cubs into the world. His smile grew bigger with each new arrival until finally 6 cubs lay at her side. His eyes between them all, so beautiful. Though he had to admit that he felt a tad bit more excited for the single male of the litter. A son was important, thought not so much so that he would ignore his daughters. No, but he would try to keep some time set aside for the male cub in the future since they were vastly outnumbered now.

"Perfect." He agreed with Maua giving her a loving nuzzle. "Our family." His smile just wouldn't go away, and probably wouldn't for some time. Laying down close to Maua he watched as the six newest members of the pride nursed. This was the perfect start to the day.
