Route 44 is a route on the north side of Johto. Route 44 is straightforward to the utmost degree. Trainers merely have to walk along the path, as the long grass itself is isolated, and face a few trainers before entering Ice Path. Remoraid is only found here, by fishing. Likewise, Lickitung is only available in the long grass between the small lakes.

Route 45 is a route in the mountains of Johto. It can only be entered from the northern terminus, as the steep ledges that one can jump over make traveling northward towards Blackthorn City impossible. The route starts as a single path as it leaves Blackthorn City, with an entrance to Dark Cave on the western side, but soon breaks into three parts, all of which inevitably pass through long grass. Soon, these recombine, then split again, into two distinct paths, only one of which offers long grass. These then recombine, then are split into two, then three, paths, all filled with long grass. These three then recombine into one before splitting off once more, the eastern half traveling towards a small pond, while the western half goes directly towards Route 46. South of the pond, the eastern half rejoins the western half as well.

Route 46 is a route in eastern Johto. Though it is one of the last numbered routes in Johto, its southern end can actually be accessed via Route 29 early in the game. Players can only access the extreme southern part of the route, below the ledges that can be jumped over. However, later in the game, if Route 45 is used to return to New Bark Town instead of the move Fly, players will start off to the east of one of the three entrances to Dark Cave, from which they must either travel through the cave or jump down the ledges to get anywhere.
