Yavie nodded not really knowing who on earth would really want to date someone so grumpy as Coalan. Still maybe after they gave him the gift he would cheer up considerably and then perhaps he might find someone who didn’t mind him so much. It was at moments like these when Yavie was thinking that she realized how lucky she was that she had Yabetz.

“Yabetz I’m very lucky to have you. You are really wise in so many things.” She sighed contentedly and made sure the mask was on the ground safely before she moved to nuzzle him. “So then should we keep the other stones that we gathered? It would be a shame to just leave them out in the middle of nowhere since our sent is all over them now. I don’t think the fairies or drawers would like them very much.”

She looked at Yabetz and then looked up at the sky. How long where they going to be out here? Was Caolan still all moppy? She wondered if perhaps they shouldn’t be hurrying back. “Yabetz will Caolan be ok on his own. I know we should hurry back to him because I would like to spend a bit of time with you.”

Yabetz chuckled affectionately deep in his throat, and returned the nuzzle with one of his own. If anything he was the one lucky to have found Yavie. Most foxes found him a little too odd for their tastes, even as a friend. He’d tried dating once or twice before, back in his homeland before he’d traveled here, but both times the vixens had gotten annoyed with his “childish attitude” and hadn’t been able to understand why he was always wearing his mask. Yes, Yabetz thought that he’d used up a lifetime of luck in meeting someone like Yavie.

“Ah don’ think they’d mind sae much wit’ us bein’ foxes an’ all. ‘Tis humans they don’t trust, which Ah can ken. But Ah doon’t think they’d mind if we took just these two little rocks f’r ourselves, and tis easy enough tae appease them if they get unhappy. A gift of milk or plantin’ of some flowers would cheer ‘em right up again.”

Yabetz didn’t need much time to consider Yavie’s question. He shook his head, smiling. “If Ah knoo that yin he’s aboot on business of his own. We have have tae hunt him doon, he’s that good at goin’ aboot unseen. Ah think we can snatch some moments for ourselves, he won’t hold it against us.”

Yavie wasn’t so sure the fairies or drawers would take the rocks back even if she and Yabetz were foxes. After all how often did the elusive little critters show themselves even to foxes? Hardly ever. Yabetz was the only one she knew who had seen them. Humans must be doomed never to see them if they were trusted less then foxes. “I think planting flowers would be the best. After all then the flowers could brighten up the whole mountain! Her tail wagged thinking about it. Now they’d just need to bring some flowers up to this mountain later on. Maybe next spring when the flowers were littler and stubborn.

She smiled laying the side of her head on his shoulder happy to have time alone whit him. It seemed strange since she was alone with him so often but she couldn’t help but miss him horribly when she was apart from him or when she was in the company of others she wanted his eyes on her alone. It was petty and papa Ixen and Yuki would scold her for such thoughts so she tried to keep it to a minimum, but she really couldn’t help herself. Yabetz was the most import thing to her, above fairies and drawers and even cute little field mice and other critters. “Yabetz I love you.”

Yabetz felt a stab of surprise punctuated with a feeling like some had turned him inside out and left him in the sun to warm up, then turned him back again. A light blush colored his cheeks and he leaned into Yavie, carefully holding back so he didn’t tumble her over with his greater size and weight.

“Ah love ye too, mah wee Bumblebee.” He made a rumbling sound deep in his chest, not quite a growl but not quite a purr either. “Ah dunnae knoo whit Ah did tae deserve ye, but Ah thank whitever creature or deity whit decided that Ah deserved tae meet ye and have ye in mah life.”

In the back of his mind there had been the of wondering what kind of flowers they should get to plant, where they could find them, how they would plant them. Where could they find something to make their little rocks into charms for necklaces or jewelry of some kind. As soon as he started cuddling with his mate all those thoughts were firmly sat on and shoved away. It was funny, since they traveled together alone most of the time others would assume they had plenty of time to, well, be alone.

The pair simply treasured every moment they had together. Best friends, companions, lovers. Sometimes in still moments like these, the impact of what they truly were to each other just came over them and all they could do was sit and bask in the other’s presence.

Being wrapped around by Yabetz made her heart soar higher than even phim and deava’s could fly. His voice got all low and deep like a purring growl. He spoiled her rotten and he thought he was the lucky one. She wanted to much to correct him but she was lost in the scent of his fur and the hum of his body against hers. “mm well thank them later if you ever find out. I need to thank them too since I can’t imagine life without you.”

Lavishing in his presence for so long she still had to remind herself to breath from time to time. She sighed and smiled. “Yabetz you are perfect you know that? I don’t think there is another fox in the entire world that is as wonderful as you.” With her head in his chest she rubbed his jaw with her head and chuckled just being able to see herself coming back her with Yabetz and laying in lots flowers and rolling around and playing.. “You know it will take a while for the flowers. What kinds do you want to bring?” She wanted to get a bunch of really pretty colorful ones.

She hopped that they could find ones that blue year round but she wasn’t sure what kinds of flowers those might be.

Yabetz chuckled cheerfully. “I knoo a few foxes that might argue with ye on tha’,” he said genially, thinking of Caolan and a couple of his friends from back home. “Ah’d also have tae argue with ye on tha’, since Ah think Ah knoo someone just a bit more perfect than me.” He winked at him mate, body rumbling with another chuckle.

He settled down for a moment to consider the question Yavie had asked. “It’ll have tae be somethin’ sturdy. Ah doon’t see that anythin’ else would really thrive here for f’r more than a single growin’ season.” There were a couple rock flowers he knew that could grow like that, a few vines. None of them were very showy, but then that was because most of their energy went into thriving rather than producing showy flowers.

“It make take a wee bit o’ time tae find exactly whit we’re lookin’ for, but it shouldn’t be tae hard. There’s a variety that thrives aboot the mountains if yeh’re willin’ tae look.”

He could argue all he wanted but it wouldn’t ever shake her faith in him. His rumble and chuckle made her so happy. She wanted to pounce him perfectly capable of carrying on the flower conversation while snuggling her mate. But Yabetz settled down so she squirmed a bit and settled down herself.

She looked around slightly ecstatic. She wanted to see bright and pretty things everywhere even in the mountains. Yabetz would know the perfect kind of flower that was ‘sturdy’ and pretty. “Well I’m sure we have plenty of time to find the perfect flowers.” She would just keep an eye out in their travels and maybe she would pick the perfect flower and Yabetz would praise her. She hoped that would be the case. She liked hearing compliments from Yabetz. “I know the mountainside here will bloom if we put our minds to it. Maybe your friend can help. Wouldn’t that make him happy?”

PostPosted: Sun Jan 06, 2013 1:27 pm
Yabetz shrugged. “I dunnae tha’ Caolan is th’ kind wit appreciates flowers sae much that he’d give a care tae go oot and find some. Ah think he’d well happy enough at wit grows here on its own and wouldnae care one way or th’ other if someone where tae plant more flowers aboot.” He grinned and shook his head. “Yin o’ the reasons Ah think he might be a changeling. Faeries are knoon tae have a fondness for flowers, but Ah never seen the lad shoo sich a trait before.”

He shrugged. “Nay lass, this will probably be a search of our own. If the lad wants flowers aboot, he’ll probably make the journey on his own or with someone else. He doesnae seem tae find happiness with others the way we do, ya ken. Ah dunnae think he’d care even if we told him it’s an offering tae the faeries in exchange for the pretty sparkles, he doesnae seem tae care much f’r kin.”

Yabetz stretched and shook out his fur, the feeling of wind against his face an odd sensation without his mask on. Even though he exposed his face a lot more with Yavie around, he still felt uncomfortable going more than a few hours without it on. It was just too much a part of him by now.

She didn’t really believe that. Who didn’t like flowers? Maybe Coalan really did like flowers and kept it a secrete. That thought made Yavie determined to catch Caolon in the act of smiling at a flower. The next time she came here she’d have to plant a lot of flowers and sit and watch over them with Caolon nearby. She was sure she’d find him coming over and sniffing the flowers with a lopsided grin on his face. It would be cute, not as cute as her mate when Yabetz did it with his mask off though. Nothing could beat that.

She nodded to what Yabetz said. Caolon was a changeling but didn’t care for the other faries? Did he have an argument with them? He must have. She felt bad for him and was glad he had a friend like Yabetz to help cheer him up. Watching Yabetz shake out his fur she knew what was coming next. Soon Yabetz would put his mask back on. Yavie didn’t mind though. She liked him with the mask and without it. Yabetz was Yabetz, but only she was special enough to catch him without his mask most of the time.

Nudging his mask she leaned down and picked up the rocks with her mouth. If she took two and he took two then he could wear his mask again with no problem. It was either that or find another way to carry the shiny stones.

Yabetz gave Yavie a grateful look when she moved to take two of the rocks. He would have left his mask off longer to carry the rocks in if he’d had to, but she knew how much he disliked going without it if there was a choice. More than knew, she understood and accepted that part of him. For that reason alone and nothing else he would have been extremely fond of the vixen, even if the rest of her personality had been completely incompatible with hers.

“Thankee lass, Ah’m no’ used tae the n** o’ the wind on mah face. It’s a wee bit too cold in these parts for mah taste.” He set the remaining two rocks on the ground and carefully replaced his mask, making sure everything was settled properly and giving his head an experimental shake to make sure it wouldn’t fall off. Satisfied it wouldn’t, he carefully scooped the rocks up off the ground and brought his tail around, curling the fluffy tip and making a sort of carrying spot for the rocks. With his mask it was very hard to hold anything in his mouth.

“How aboot we find that seem we passed coomin’ here? It’ll be a good place tae cleanse the stones before we give ‘em to Caolan, and we might get in a bit o’ fishin while we’re at it. There doesnae seem tae be a lot of game around to hunt but birds and hares.”

Nodding she looked at him with a wink. Setting down her stones down that she would carry she looked her mate over. “It’s no surprise when you have a mask between you and the wind so of course it would tickle you worse than me.” She held a paw out and made a small circle in the air like she was going to poke him or start a tickle war. Of course if she did Yabetz would win, but that meant Yavie was rolling on the ground laughing which didn’t sound too bad to her.

She mimicked Yabetz’s style of rock carrying with his tail. If it got to tiring she would just switch it and carry them in her mouth. Bobing her head to his question she thought washing off the stones would be a good idea because right now they tasted like dirt which was the other reason why she was fine carrying them with her tail. As far as the fishing went Yavie was looking forward to it. Fish were so pretty swimming in the water and of course the scales were so pretty flashing in the water for a moment before moving again. “OH LETS! I bet you’re friend would love that and maybe we could catch a really really big one. That would be fun.” It was always fun to ‘pull’ out a big fish. It was like winning a prize. “Hey Yabetz are there any water faries out there? If there were would they get along with the drawers? I bet they would because there are a lot of rocky streams out in the world.”

Yabetz’s expression behind his mask was a thoughtful one was the couple started the walk back down the route they’d arrived on, towards the stream. “Ah dinae that they’re faeries as ye be thinking off, Bumblebee, but there be several types o’ water fae. I dinae that any live aboot this place, since they prefer lush forests and easier than that whit we’ve been walkin’ through.”

He ran through the mental list of water creatures he knew and started relating them to his mates.

“Nymphs, which look much like human lasses, live in water. Th’ ones in fresh water are known as Naiads, and th’ one whit swim in the oceans are Nereids. Nereids have creatures they ride called Hippocamps, which have the front half of a horse and the back half of a dolphin. Mermaids, o’ course, which also have the back half like a dolphin but the front half of a human. Selkies ye dinae see oot of the oceans either, and they look like seals at first but can take off their skin like it’s clothes and become bonny humans. They just put the seal skins back on, and they’re back tae seals. Humans often fall in love with them, for they’re rare among fae in that they have souls, but sich unions often end in tragedy for no Selkie could love a human more than she loves th’ sea.”

A frown crossed his face, hidden by his mask but clear in his voice.

“They’re not sich bad creatures should ye see ‘em, though water beasties are quite shy. There’s bad beasties too which ye should look out for. In mah homeland there’s one called the Kelpie. They look like plain horses and try tae charm human ontae their backs, then they take them under the water and drown them.” He fixed Yavie with a serious look from behind his mask.

“Ye always have tae remember, even in the land o’ magic there’s horrible things ye’d never want tae come across.”

So there were water fairies! That was wonderful because Yavie would have hated to have all the faries on the land not have the fun of going through and swimming every now and then. Though of course that wasn’t to say the land fairies couldn’t swim. Could they? Did they have lessons like papa Ixen and Papa Yuki had used to teach her and her siblings? That would be fun. Come to think of it did Yabetz swim? She hopped so after all ii would be hard to get some places if he couldn’t swim. Oh well if he couldn’t than she would teach him. She stopped her train of thought to listen to what Yabetz had to say about all the different kinds of water fae.

Since she’d never seen a human before and only heard about them it was hard to picture most of the things that Yabetz was describing but it didn’t matter she took all the information stored it in her typical Yavie mindset to call up later. When he got to his warning about the kelpie she could tell he wasn’t happy when he looked at her. His eyes didn’t have the happy twinkle but a hard glint in them. It made the fur right along her spine tingle and stand straight up. She had seen grumpy things and angry things, even things that were dangerous in her life, but never had Yavie seen something evil or truly horrible. Innocent wide eyes stared back at Yabetz and she gave a short slow nod. She gave a small whine and looked at him almost pleadingly. Her voice was small and oddly calm for someone of Yavie’s disposition. That was clue enough that she was focused soley on what Yabetz said and had no other thoughts buzzing around her head like her friend Janice had buzzed through the air. “Yabetz if we something dangerous would you keep me safe?”

PostPosted: Sun Mar 03, 2013 1:44 pm
Yabetz’s figure instantly relaxed by a few degrees and behind his mask his expression softened as he leaned over to press protectively against his mate. “Dinnae worry lass, Ah will always protect ye. ‘Tis nae so hard tae stay safe around the fair folk. All ye need is knowledge.” He tapped his skull with a tilt of his head, smiling. “Ah have plenty o’ that in mah heid, never ye worry!”

He tried to think of some knowledge he could impart that might help reassure Yavie while also teaching her that protecting one’s self wasn’t so hard. “Ye see, humans dinnae believe in the fair folk, not all of them. Pure goons, they be, cause believin’ is a big part o’ stayin’ safe. Ye know these things are real then ye know tae look out f’r ‘em, ye ken?

Now there’s some exceptions, but iron and salt tend tae repel faeries. There’s also th’ sayin’ that they cannae cross running water. ‘Tis cause fae are creatures of magic, and those thing purify and dispel magic.”

She brightened instantly like the sun had broken the sky for the first time. Yabetz was so cool! “I believe after all you’ve told me about them.” She still hadn’t seen any but of course but that’s because she wasn’t as lucky as Yabetz. Well in some things. Yavie was super lucky in others though. After all she had Yabetz as her mate. That made her the luckiest vixen in the world!

She made note of the things that would keep her safe from fairies. She didn’t think she’d ever have to use them though. Not when she wanted to see them and ask if they would dance with her. And maybe meet Yabetz. It would be amazing if she could find a fairy and bring them back to Yabetz. Wouldn’t he be so happy?

“So if I swam across a river I’d be ok? That seems a bit silly, can’t faries swim too? What if it was a water fae” She had almost said fairy. “in the water and a land fairy chasing you. Wouldn’t the water fea help the land fairy?”
