FLIPPIN HEY! Fresh off the success of the previous game, Distant Thunder was feeling quite pleased with himself and his luck at the moment. Even the hideous prizes that others seemed to have were not dissuading him from this strange booth with these unusual kin. He could face anything at this point!
In fact, he decided, "I will face your little shells!" A declaration at the dancing doe with a flirtatious, confident wink. "Let us see what treasures you have for me."
Thunder swept his eyes across the displayed clay shells, appraising the possibilities under each one. What little trinkets lay below the domes? Would careful investigation help his chances? He carefully peered at whether they lay level to the surface, wondering if those which bobbed upwards a little would hold better secrets.
He remembered his little icicle attempts - to the left. That would help him decide. He veered to the selections on the left, peered hopefully at their elevation and in true Thunder fashion, cried:
"HAVE AT YOU!" before ransacking a random shell with a strike from his hoof - no more contemplation! No more hesitation! Nooooo oh dear Motherfather -
The flipping of the shell threw up a cloud of insect carcasses, their little buggy bodies and limbs curled up into themselves in insectoid rigor mortis, some of them half-decayed and smelling quite rank besides the base horror of it all. What was probably meant to be a far more harmless prank pile of dead bugs had exploded into a brief, disgusting snowstorm that whirled their way upon his mane and muzzle, and very soon a Kiokote himself, blinded by the body of a millipede draped across his eyes, little clutching legs tangled in his fur, became a terrifying tornado of bugs, flailing about the booth and its borders.
Distant Thunder briefly opened his mouth to call for help of some sort, but found his taste buds assaulted by a cluster of chitinous corpses: he spat them out post-haste and realised that keeping his mouth shut would be a better option at this point. With little regard to the others around him - to be fair, he had no clue whether there was anyone around him at this point, his only view being the underside of a rotting insect - he attempted to shake the insects off him.
Stumbling to a side, he shook vigourously in a very awkward, inelegant stomping dance. Some of the bits fell off his chest caught on his ankles, and he then started a jig like a owlcat on a hot rock. Unable to shake the clinging tenacity of stiff insectoid bodies, he fell heavily on his side, rolling in the dry earth. To the passers-by, it was almost abstract performance art: "The Insect Death Dance."
With a desperate throw of his head, he finally shook the millipede. Wild-eyed, he proceeded to violently and systematically bite, pull and spit the rest of the bugs out of his fur.
"No more treasures." He gasped, stomping the carcasses into bits. "I must keep my heart healthy."

FLIPPIN HEY!
The handsome buck laughs as he spots someone else getting a rather nasty surprise under their shell, and then ducks his head to quiet his chuckling. After all, he plans on playing, too, and it could be just his luck to end up with something equally unpleasant. That thought sobers him up, quick, and Black-Lunged makes his way to the front to try his own luck as well.
Hmm.. let's see..
-rolling-
Oh, hey, cool! He discovers a delicious treat of some sweet, end-of-season, berries and eats them up with a happy little hum. Now, that wasn't so bad after all!

FLIPPIN HEY! Distant Tidings pranced about the Winter Market, poking his nose into this booth and that (especially at Rise & Shine's – the samples were sublime, though he wasn't quite up to trying his old friends' tricks just yet). The Frog Kissing? The Open Performance? There were so many options, and so many options he so merrily wanted to embrace – where in Swamp to start?! But, no – he was a trickster at heart, and the interesting Treasure Flip that the cackling, blazing Acha and the fascinating purple Kimeti were running certainly seemed the prankiest of the bunch. The screams that issued from time to time could be heard across the entire Market...and he'd just arrived to the sight of a golden Acha doe storming away in disgust from what looked like the desiccated corpse of a long-dead frog. Good times!
"What a lovely little set-up you have got going on," he quipped, surveying the crude clay shells with a speculative eye, "let's see what this one holds for me, then!"
He flipped.
Well, there was no token under there, but there was an unassuming little fruit. It was smooth and rather pretty, and had just the right give as he pressed against it with his muzzle curiously.
"That's not too bad, is it?" he said, and took an unsuspecting bite.
It is always particularly humiliating for a trickster to get tricked.
"Oh, no, that's very bad," he croaked, staggering away from the offending fruit, "very, very bad. That's vile. Well played, madam!"
And then the need to wash that bitter, bitter taste out of his mouth overcame all, and he rushed away in search of sweet reprieve – he'd be back for revenge later. After all, just one more go couldn't hurt, could it?

FLIPPIN HEY!
After a mind-bending mushroom experience, Rain decided that she wanted something a little more low key. Most of the mud washed off, except she knows that Persimmon is going to FREAK OUT about about the stains in her fur. There's still a slimy taste in her mouth from all those grubs, too. And really it's not even like they're that bad, just... eugh. She did get a shiny 2 token out of it, and hopefully provided some useful information to the booth owner.
There's so many games and so much food on sale. The variety is dizzying. She browses casually and stops to look at one booth. A shell flip? That looks relaxing. What's the worst that could happen? Rain stops to watch for a while, seeing what kind of treats are available. A few kin get tokens, some get some small snacks or little things that shimmer. There's a few tricks, too; one buck gets a pinch on the nose from an irate crab trapped under one of the shells. Gross, did that shell have a dead rat under it? At any rate, that's still a lot less terrible than having a really weird trip in front of a bunch of kin you don't know. The acha barker is a good attention-grabber (and such unusual horns!). The introvert dark buck fixing shells is cute, too. Seems shy. She smiles in spite of herself. Alright, let's do this.
She takes a breath and runs her eyes over all the shells, looking for... well, something. Hoof marks, some kind of pattern in shape or size. They're all delightfully random; the booth runners are quite good at setting this up without giving anything away. Her tail curls and uncurls as she thinks. Which one? This one? Rain sticks her nose out and then changes her mind. No, not that one. Maybe this other one? No, no that's not right either. There's so many choices and indecision plagues her. She sees how the acha's eyes twinkle in anticipation of her getting something nasty. The pressure!
Enough! Rain bites her lower lip, closes her eyes, and picks a shell at random, the first one her nose touches. A single eye opens, wincing in apprehension at the possibility of it it being a stinkbug or worse. Is it, is it? Something glitters under the shell! A token? Yes! Success! She does a little happy dance in place without realizing it.
Oh, there's something else here, too? A second treasure peeks out from under the token, and she noses it aside to see what the surprise win is. It's a small bundle of iridescent feathers, teal and black. How pretty! What a nice surprise! This is so much better than eating a bunch of gross dirt! Maybe she could convince Never-Idle fix them into her hair? With some more tokens... maybe...
Raining Underwater takes her two prizes and thanks the owners with a little bow and also maybe possibly sort of might have given that dark buck a little wink on her way out.

FLIPPIN HEY!
When the world cooled down, sliding into shorter days and harder ground, that was a good time to come back and visit the kin so fond of their swamps. Dare Me wandered through the market space, ears twitching at every burst of laughter or sigh of disappointment. Head on a swivel and smile tugging at the corners of his mouth, he stepped lively to avoid collisions and a pair of cheerfully tussling foals, too busy with their game to notice the pale acha.
His attention to, well, everything, meant he could hardly avoid the other acha's challenge. Tripping toward the booth in question, he watched a while, seeing other kin both fail (sometimes miserably) and others succeed. Oh yes, this was a challenge, to be sure, but he had not been called Dare Me because he was content to simply watch the world and never take a risk or reach for opportunity. He may have been chancing his ability to smell anything pleasant for a while, but: "None of this could be that bad. Otherwise, you'd be running, not laughing," he suggested. "Or maybe fighting. Who can tell?
That said, he considered the "board" and the shells laid out before him, then carefully picked his way to his chosen target and nudged it over with his nose. Success! The two tokens hidden beneath it were quickly lipped up and caught between his teeth. With a triumphant smile and a bob of his head, he turned and trotted off with his prize.

Negative and Can You both stared at the great green totoma's confrontation with her prize, and stared after her as she fled the scene.
"What a nut!" the acha laughed, shaking her head.
Wow, there were way more bugs under that shell than she'd thought - that purple galoot had done a hell of a job with this one. The unfortunate confluence of the kiokote's quick flip and a sudden gust of wind had her rolling on the ground, laughing her head off. She couldn't even coherently heckle him, she was so paralyzed with laughter!
"Awww, looks like that one croaked waitin' for you!" the feisty hostess cried, laughing at the other acha's misfortune.
"Hey, purple puss! Come clean this up," she called to her assistant.
Can You glowed as the acha buck praised her and her assistant's hard work. She could sense a kindred spirit in him, and grinned evilly as she agreed, "It is grand, isn't it? Shells are all close enough to the same, and cover everything so completely, nobody can tell what they're getting until it's too late."
She watched eagerly as he considered his choices, and then his prize, and as he took a bite -! She erupted in gales of laughter.
"Got you good!" she cried, kicking up her back hooves with glee. She sang after his retreating form, "Now you've lost, you run away - run back to try another day!"
Can You hardly took any interest in the white and blue doe with the flowing tresses, but Negative watched her curiously. Her hair was nice, and watching her tail wave was sort of hypnotizing. He held his breath as she wavered over shells that held stinkers instead of prizes, but at last she picked a winner - one token, and some choice feathers. He sighed with relief - he'd already decided he rather liked her - and then choked as she winked at him. What???
Ahhh, it was so boring when they got something decent! But she felt oddly gratified the two most recent winners were other acha. "Nice job, gentlemen," she said, giving them a polite nod.
Can You watched the pink kimeti avidly as he picked his shell - she knew what was under that one. She gave him her best s**t-eating grin when he discovered what was under it, waiting for him to speak first before she heckled him - but then he took the nasty rotted thing away with him anyways! With a bark of laughter, she called "Congratulations on your prize, mister!" after him.
