Barth's teeth were sharp, certainly. He rarely showed them. He was not a grinning kind of demon, and most of his smiles were cheery, hopeful, close-lipped sort of smiles. His tongue he showed off even more rarely, except when using it for skill (or when convincing someone of something or another), but never for any crude or crass gestures.
Barth's tongue was black, and thin, though not quite as thin as a worm. Perhaps closer to a snake. It narrowed at the tip into a point. It was not as long as Zar's, but to be fair, his teeth were not as strong and mechanical. There was no unhinging jaw.
His own teeth were tearing teeth, suited to meat, but meat that had already been stilled and subdued. And there, in the very middle of it, shone the gem. As cool and threatening and somehow both bright and dreary as it had been in the dream. Blood dotted its entry, and some pooled in the bottom of Barth's mouth, which he had tried not to swallow.
A piercing. That was all. Pierced. That felt right.
"Ah," he said, closing his eyes again and relaxing. His tongue had not been maimed or deformed. Only pierced. Like a thorn. When his eyes opened again, he bore the pain with more dignity, with out the panic of not knowing.
"And you? Where?" Barth asked.
