[The Semblance of Unity]

"Mmm," she creaked. "You could stand to be a little less dignified, perhaps. To counter-act your arrogance, I think." And suddenly, she realized she'd actually gotten atop him. Hollandaise had not expected that Zar would actually let her sit on his furred hide. She curled her toes at his side. His fur was beautiful and warm and fluffy, although his back was wide enough that she thought she might slip off.

Hollandaise's thin fingers combed through his fur before she paused for a moment to lay flat on his back and press her cheek into his fur. "Is it hardly fair that you are so warm," she sighed out, words muffled into his back. She thought very much that she could sleep like this, hands curled into his fur, chill night air all around her, but still warm. It was nice. Too bad she didn't like him. Sort of. "Now, for testing purposes, perhaps you should... move about? Otherwise, I will fall asleep on you. Or accidentally kick your tail or something." She twitched the reins, although she did not pull on them.

Zar beneath her was all taut muscle and tension, strength lurking beneath his fur as he resisted all instincts to buck her off, to attack her, to devour her. There were deep rooted drives to preserve pride and establish defiance at all cost which he managed to dissuade only by convincing himself she was not a threat. Holly would not understand the motions and rituals of upper demonic society and to expect her to be held to those rules was cruel. She wouldn't even understand why he was attacking her, if he lost control and did.

He moved his head from side to side with a despicably merry jingle of chains and a long undignified tendril of drool dripped to the ground as his tongue decided the bit was something to eat rather than something to steer him.

"A'h a'hm 'arm 'ecausse fur." he said before giving up entirely on the prospect of trying to speak and instead with a resigned sigh, turning to move sedately through the garden, the tension in his muscles moving sleekly to predatory motion, carrying her weight easily as he went, he decided, for his own distraction, to follow the direction of the reins.

"Hmmm, she murmured as he moved. "I wish I possessed fur. It is terribly inconvenient, you know, to go without." The ride was very smooth - not that Hollandaise had expected anything less. Zar always seemed precisely controlled. How funny, she thought, for a demon who hated the rigidity of paperwork.

In the middle of the garden, with a quiet creak, she fell asleep.
