......wow thats great! I don't have FF1 so I couldn't have got it but what you discovered seems to make sense. I'll bet no one else has thought of that yet EVER!

well sometimes summons are in a game and then don't re appear for a few games

eg. Fenrir appeared in FFVI and didn't reappear until FFIX

I'm not entirely sure Valefor was in many of them either

I think that Valefor was only in FF X. But there is a summon in FF 6, whose name I forget, that is a bird. It allows the whole party to jump on its back and "Jump" unto the monsters.

I have never played FF 1 or 2, which makes me very sad. That seems a plausible theory, though. Rather than gods, they would be creatures to aid the heroes.

some times summons appear but have different names. I'm sure ifrit had another name in one of the earlier FFs

well we can't all be sure the times that the adventures are taking place in the other dimensions. Like ff9 could be happening at the same time as some other ff so some summons would have to split up instead of them all going to one dimension.

The only problem with that is Shiva and Ifrit. They have appeared in every FF since the 3rd one

Ifrit was Jinn in Final Fantasy 2/4. But I think Shiva's always been Shiva...
