"Yeah...?" He repeated, albeit a bit disappointingly, as he started to release his grip. Talk about mixed signals; what with her body language, he would have never guessed. Oh well, at least it was fun while it lasted. Time to move on and pretend it never happened.

"...No...?" while he didn't tighten his grip back to its original strength, he also didn't loosen it further. So... she was okay with this...? Even if she had tensed up and looked away from him, she'd yet to try to have him release his grip; on the contrary, she seemed to be enjoying that quite a bit. The way she moved her hair back, a small gesture he'd grown quite accustomed to and fond of, was beautiful. She was beautiful.

In that case...

He released her hand fully, but she wasn't left without it for long, as he moved it instead to place it on top of the one she'd used to pull her hair back. "Don't be," he smiled warmly as he coaxed her to face him once more, his eyes locking with hers. They seemed to linger there as he took in the moment, far from over from his perspective.

"Let's make another then..."

At that he slid his palm forward, fingers intertwining with hers from behind to brush against her hair and pull her face closer to his. He paused, his lips centimeters from hers and close enough that he could feel her "breath" tickle his scales.

"...shall we?"

Kelebek's eyes fluttered closed for a moment when he slid his hand into her hair. She didn't know hair could feel good, especially not her untameable locks. She made a soft noise, almost like a tiny sigh, as she relaxed back into him.

She couldn't believe this was still happening. Not after her awkwardness bust the bubble! Warmth swelled in her chest, unrelated to the touches that were still like electricity on her scales. Did that mean...? Surely not.... But then again... Maybe it was. Maybe he did love her, and could look past all her flaws.

His eyes were so beautiful, like the ocean right before a storm. Exciting. Restless. Dangerous. But they were Naiads. They'd be safe in the depths where it was warm and calm.

Her eyes found his lips, hovering perilously close to hers.

...!

Gods and little fishes, he was going to kiss her!

A brief moment of panic flashed through her brain: how did one do this properly? But then he paused and gave the decision to her, and in that moment, she was able to throw caution to the waves. "I think we shall," she whispered, and leaned up slightly to meet his lips with her own.

Oh, and it was as soft and warm and delightful as she imagined it would be! Her pulse raced in her throat, as well as anywhere she was in contact with him. She struggled a little to decide what to do with her other hand--she wanted to touch him but wasn't sure where. On his hip seemed awkward, on his chest--however much she wanted to touch that--would make her elbow be in the way...so she settled for cupping his cheek, drawing them closer together yet.

She was sure she'd never felt this way before. This wasn't the shadow of some past ache. This feeling was entirely new.

As direct as Hjortur has been during this interaction, her taking the final initiative had taken him by surprise, and what a pleasant surprise it had been. To think that the ever distant, hesitant, and adorably awkward Kelebek could also be so bold; perhaps it was this disconnect between her usual persona and her in this moment that quickened his pace so.

Perhaps it was that her lips were even warmer and softer than he could have possibly imagined.

This contact brought an unexpected rush to his head, dulling his senses, a flush to his whole body, a tingling down his back to the points where they made contact. Her fingers brushing his cheek and inviting him further nearly sent a physical shiver down his spine at the electricity it summoned. For his own part, he was having great difficulty maintaining his hand on her lower back, a desire in him wanting to reach to even greater softness just below.

What restrained him wasn't any sensible source of self control, but rather the immense warmth radiating from his chest. He lacked the sense of urgency brought on when courting any normal number of one-time lovers. With those, he needn't worry about how his actions might come across, as he would likely not see them again.

But at this moment, for this moment, he just wanted to be in the moment.

After what was simultaneously an eternity and not nearly long enough, Kelebek broke contact and opened her eyes. He was so close and so handsome! She couldn't help but grin as she rested her forehead against his, an intimate gesture that was new, but felt so comfortable.

Maybe that's what the difference was. She'd always felt comfortable with Hjortur. Even on the (many) occasions where she'd been clumsy and awkward, both with her self and her words, he'd always just sort of...rolled with it. He didn't get wrapped up in her weirdness or anxiety, he just continued being himself. And she'd never felt like she had to stop being herself. And that was the most wonderful part.

Feeling a little brave, she draped her one arm over his shoulder. Her hair formed a pink cloud around the both of them--she could never keep it under control, it went wherever the waves did--and for Kelebek at least, made the moment feel even more private and intimate. Like they were the only two Naiad in the whole lake.

A giddy little giggle and a quiet "Hi," was all she could manage.

As their seemingly endless moment came to pass, his eyes lingered shut so as to continue to lose himself to the feeling of softness. What brought him out of it was the warm pressure being applied to his forehead. Even then, his eyes were slow to open, an almost boyish expression present from how his eyes were originally looking away, down, his cheeks unusually flushed and his features otherwise muted. He was at a loss to his emotions and what to do with them.

So he didn't think to hard about it.

His eyes lifted to meet hers as her arm draped over him, glancing to either side as brilliant ripples of pink enveloped them. The naiad didn't often pay those locks of hers any particularly-special notice, but they really were magnificently beautiful. As were her eyes... which he returned to look into.

Where in normal situations he would be one to say something absurd or suave in such a moment, his words caught in his throat before he could even form them. Nothing seemed quite right. So, instead, he just said what came to mind: "So..." he laughed lightly, a soft, yet almost bubbling, grin on his face. "That just happened, right?"

Kelebek couldn't help but be lost in his eyes. They were so warm and reassuring. She felt at home here in his arms and lost in his gaze. She relaxed into him. Even though all this was so new to her, actions so unfamiliar, she couldn't help but be at ease around him. Hjortur made her feel like it had always been this way.

The sound of his voice made her heart flip over in her chest. He'd always had a pleasant voice, of course, but in this moment it sounded different. More gravelly, maybe? Either way it was doing things to her.

"I hope so," she breathed, biting her bottom lip. Otherwise this would be a very awkward conversation. She banished that thought before it took hold and sent her anxiety spiralling again. Instead, she giggled a little and smiled a little coquettish smile. "W-we could do it again, just to be sure..." She surprised even herself with her boldness, but the truth was she never wanted this moment, or series of moments, to end.

Her own almost uncharacteristically bold actions, tempting him, brought Hjortur back into a regular state of mind, thoughts naturally progressing elsewhere. Given the circumstances, it wasn't all unexpected that the water around them should start to feel quite heated, numbing his mind and senses to any sense of hesitation he might have originally felt.

Tariel be damned if he was going back at this point.

With his own coy smile twisting onto his lips, his eyes lowered halfway as his fingers reached to ever-so-softly brush against her chin and bring her forward. It was a feint, however, as rather than bring her lips to his, he brought his so close to her ears she could probably feel the water's currents changing from their movement. Softly, he whispered to her.

"I have a mind to do a bit more, if you would like." Oh how he hoped she would say yes, but of course she would. The night was still young.

Kelebek had been feeling pretty confident in herself, enough to be coy and flirtatious with him. When he tipped her chin toward him, she closed her eyes and leaned into the gesture, expecting the soft bliss that was his kiss.

When he whispered into her ear, however, a shiver went up her spine.

Oh.

Oh.

Suddenly her confidence melted away, and she was all blushes and nervous giggles again. "I...um....oh, gods and little fishes..." Kelebek ran a hand through her hair. She very much wanted to find out what he had in mind. She could only imagine what that would be like, and how delightful. But she'd only done it the one time before, and she didn't even remember it very well. What if she did the wrong thing? She blushed hot as what she did remember of the one time flooded her memory.

She closed her eyes and bit her bottom lip before meeting Hjortur's gaze again. She was vaguely aware of how her body language must look, and she definitely didn't want to give the impression that she wasn't interested. "I...I'd very much like that," she began softly. "I..." she sighed. "I'm a little nervous is all." She smiled a wry little smile. "I've only...I mean, it was just the one time...and that was so long ago...." She trailed off and watched for his reaction, hope and love and excitement plain on her face.

He pulled back after speaking, the edges of his mouth continuing to twist upwards and his eyes taking in her expressions. Or, perhaps, devouring it would be a more appropriate term given the hunger evident in his gaze. There was something about the way she squirmed in hesitation and self doubt, the way her scales ever-so-slightly flushed in embarrassment... It was as though a switch had flipped, one he'd never known was present.

Oh how badly he wanted to make her ever more and more flustered; just the thought was making his own body raise in temperature.

If he was a cat(fish), he'd be about purring at his imagination.

Having pulled back appropriately when she'd begun to hesitate, he flashed her a confident and charming, yet playful, smile. "Well, if you would have me, I've a few ideas..." he trailed off, silence and tension hanging in the air before offering a hand for Kel to take with a wink.

"What say you?"

Kelebek lost the ability to form words for a moment as she giggled nervously, slender fingers over her mouth and blushing hot. Her imagination ran wild, imaging what delights a "yes" would lead to.

Although, there was a part of her--a significant part of her--that worried she'd do something wrong, or that her messy, accidental, intoxicated first time, and the emotional exhaustion that was raising children and loving someone who didn't care for her the same way....she worried that those many tides of experience somehow ruined her. Besides, she reasoned, this wasn't who she was, was it? She was a hermit, a solitary outsider who had loved and lost, raised her children and grandchildren, and that was that. Certainly she wasn't the kind of Naiad who led an interesting life, with friends and a lover and a life of pleasure and happiness. Was she?

Her eyes met his, and she realized that she could be. And so she hesitated only a moment before putting her hand in his with a small-but-significant smile and nodding.

"Yes."
