[PRP] Sudden mist (Mina and Charlbury Chase)

Something occurred to Mina around then, a selfish little voice in the back of her head that spoke up now. She had wings. She could fly. The walker didn't have wings and would be stuck on the ground unless he could turn into a bat.

Her eyes flicked between Charlbury and Hellhound. They were focused on each other. They wouldn't notice that she was going to fly away until it was too late. Her breathing quickened. She hated the idea of leaving the other mare to be attacked and possibly killed by a skinwalker, but she didn't want to risk herself either. She wasn't ready to die. She wasn't even ready to fight. She stepped away, turning herself slightly. They didn't react. She took another step, then another. Then she was breaking into a run, beating her wings frantically as she began to lift away.

The skinwalker was pretending not to be a skinwalker! That was funny. It was just like something a skinwalker would say and Charlbury didn't believe it for a minute. "You don't fool me," she hissed, smirking and continuing to size him up. She'd like to be able to defeat a skinwalker. She could bring his tails back to her sisters and make party hats out of them.

"You're gonna-" She squinted behind her, then stared. "HEY!" The other mare was flying away! She momentarily forgot the danger she was in and bounded after her, swatting ineffectively as she flew away.

"YOU GET BACK HERE!" she yelled. "I'M GOING TO EAT YOUR BIRD!" She was so mad she could spit, and that's just what she did.

"Oooooook." Hellhound was more than fed up with the situation. He couldn't roll his empty eye sockets but could and did roll the many eyes all over his body. "You guys have problems," he quipped. He heard a slapping sound and a yelp. Sounded like the flying mare clipped her wing on a tree in the mist. He failed to muster any sort of sympathy for her.

"If no one objects, I'm out of here." He didn't even wait for a response before turning and stomping off. He had eyes on the back of his flanks. He'd be able to see if the crazy cat mare tried to chase after him. Fortunately for all involved, she didn't.

He shook his head to himself as he wandered off through the mist. Weird weather really had a way of bringing out the crazies.

Mina's cheeks burned as she flew away. She was being a coward and wouldn't like herself much for it once she had time to think. Was she really that selfish? Apparently the answer was yes.

In her distraction, her wing clipped a protruding tree branch. She cried out and wobbled in flight but kept going. No way would she go back down now even if her wing was broken. She couldn't face the cat soquili again and fervently hoped they'd never again cross paths.

Brooding, she climbed higher into the sea of mist. It was like flying in an empty white plain of nothingness. Disquieted, flew faster, trying her best to put the mist and what had happened in it behind her...

By the time she'd finished chasing Mina, the other guy had disappeared. "Oooooh," growled Charlbury Chase, furious. "Ooooh oooh oooh." She scowled at the mist. The skinwalker might be hiding right in front of her nose and she wouldn't even notice him!

... But he really had seemed to be leaving, and she wasn't actually so sure that he was a skinwalker after all.

Unbothered, she followed her nose back to what had brought her here in the first place. The half-eaten bird was as delicious looking as ever and brought a grin to her lips. That had all been very strange, but as far as she was considered, it was a happy ending.

"Mine now," she purred, licking her lips before taking her first bite.
