Night's head bobbed back up out of the water in time to see the Acha grab the floating bunny. At first, Night thought the bunny had gotten hurt with how odd it floated in the water. Once the bunny was on the Acha's back with the others, it seemed to come back to life.

"Thank you for your help," Night said around the wax chunk hanging from his mouth. "That was a bit exciting, wasn't it?" The buck chuckled to himself thinking about the stunt that he and the Acha had just pulled off. "Good day to you as well!" Night crawled out of the water, gave a bit of a shake, then trotted off with his prize.

25.You had every intention of bringing this perfect fallen fruit back to Never Idle, but temptation won out, and you ate it yourself. Way to go.

After delivering the wax chunk, Idle seemed 'almost' grateful for the item. Let's see, what next? Night wondered. Spotting some fruit, so ripe it had fallen off the tree, Night remembered that Idle had asked for snacks. This would be just the thing. Night's tummy rumbled, reminding him he hadn't eaten for a bit. All this gathering was making him even hungrier. Idle can wait for his snack, Night thought. I'll eat this one and find him something else.

22.You thought you found the perfect branch--but it snaps cleanly in two when you try to move it. Argh!

Happily munching on his fruit, Night stumbled across a nice sized limb. "Idle could use that," Night said to himself. He grabbed it with his teeth to pull it clear. The branch snapped in two, nearly dropping him on butt when it broke apart. "Well, maybe not."

21.You locate a perfectly round, enormous boulder. It is exactly what Never Idle needs--but you're going to need help to uproot and move it. Help required. No Success!

13.You hear the sound of wings startled up when you enter this clearing, but there is no bird to be seen--only a strange shift in the light, as though a thin cloud had passed over the sun although the sky is clear.

A quick fluttering of wings brought Night's attention upward. Idle has asked for some feathers. A bird flying away wasn't going to give up any feathers, he thought. He glanced at the clear sky. At least the weather was good for searching.

37.You trip, right yourself, and trip again. Not three steps later you trip once more. You would almost swear that there's some invisible creature winding around your legs. In fact--what was that?

Gazing up into the trees, hoping (but not really expecting) to see red birds dropping feathers, Night tripped and fell to his knees. How could be so clumsy, he thought. Must have been a root sticking out of the ground. After picking himself up, he tripped again. Night looked at the ground, sure that there must be roots sticking up out of the ground. Not finding anything, he wondered what could make him trip over his own feet.

After a few more steps, Night tripped again. This time he swore he could have felt something twisting around his legs. He looked around again. Maybe vines wisping out of the bushes? Night couldn't find anything to explain what was happening. Placing his feet very carefully, he started walking again.

Finding another fruit on the ground, Night thought to bring this one back to Idle. But no, still hungry, so he ate this one too.

26.Your nosy poking around has disturbed an angry old mare, who chases you off her land. You escape without incident.

Wandering around in unfamiliar areas to find the items Idle wanted, Night came across an old mare. "Hello there," he said. He was about to mention the items he was looking for and ask if she'd seen any of them, when she hissed at him. Her teeth came within inches of his hide when she snaked out her head and tried to bite him. Not bothering with any more niceties, Night bolted out of there.

27.A Kin has died here, perhaps this past winter. Its carcass has long since decayed to merely bones, and on a tree above its resting place someone has scrawled the symbol for a name, and a shape like a ripple in a still pool. Strangely, they have accompanied the marker with the symbol for a safe place.

Night's searching brought him to a tree with scrawled marks on it. A kin's name and the mark for a safe place. He wondered about that. At the base of the tree lay the bones of a kin that must have died a season or two past. Night silently thanked the Mother Swamp for his continued life and hoped the kin's passing had been a painless one.

19.You hear Never Idle chiding you in a strangely metallic voice: "Work faster! Work faster!" But then you realize it's only a mocking-raven, who must have grown up near the stag's place of business.

"Work faster! Work faster!"

Hearing what sounded like the old goat's voice, Night's head swiveled around looking for the source. A raven looking down at him seemed to be reminding him that he didn't have a lot of time left. "Go back to your Master," Night told the bird.

12.A beautiful red bird has met an unfortunate end here. Success!

A splash of color caught Night's eye. Red! Idle wanted red, he remembered. Moving closer, Night found a beautiful lifeless bird draped over the low limb of a tree. Sad, Night thought, that such a beautiful creature would soar no more. He thanked Mother Swamp again, this time for bringing him to the bird so that its demise would benefit him.

Night pulled out a mouthful of red feathers, then set them aside. Digging a shallow depression in the muddy earth, he lay the bird in it and covered it with leaves. Then he wished the bird a speedy journey in returning its body to Mother Swamp. Grabbing the red feathers, he took them to Idle.

16.A smooth, sunbleached lynx skull lies in a clearing.

Night wondered if he was going in circles. Could this be the same skull that he saw earlier? He wondered if Mother Swamp was trying to send him a message by showing him this skull twice.

A perfectly round boulder sat in front of Night. It's just right, he thought. Idle can use this. Night put his shoulder into the rock and pushed like he had with Light, the Acha he helped earlier. But like Light, this rock wasn't going to budge with only one kin pushing on it.

Night paused to think. Should he leave it and see if he might find something else on Idle's list? Night twitched his ears back and forth, hoping to catch the sound of any passing kin that he might ask for help.

sorry Light passed out somewhere in the swamp after he had gathered another item. he won't be around.
No problem. Doesn't have to be the same one.

Night's ears picked up the sound of tiny hooves, but then they paused. Sniffing the air, he smelled... another kin? A Kiokote, if he remembered the smell correctly from the last event gathering he attended. They were known for their swiftness. Not sure if one that was fleet-of-foot could help him, but it was worth a shot.

"Hello?" Night shouted. "Can anyone hear me? I need some help!"
