[PRP] Gunpowder (Nuria/Ruber)

Purple eyes glittered with excitement as Nuria admitted that she too was from a large litter. That virtually assured that they'd have a good number of kids! Oh, how wonderful!

It was also interesting to hear about the rules for naming children in this pride. Ruber nodded agreement that he'd name those whose fur didn't fit in - he didn't mind at all! Maybe he could even tell them how to find their grandparents when they left...

But wait, there was something in what the lioness had said that caught his attention. "So...Nuria means fire?" he asked.  

[Excited Apathy]

A brief, curt nod. "Yes. All Firekin names do, in a sense. The heat of a fire, or burning...those meanings also suffice. Even if a cub's pelt passes, they may be considered huria if their name does not." Not that she'd make such a faux pas--to reject her heritage in such a way was unthinkable. She was born of fire, and her cubs would be too. Unprepared for, unready, but firekin all the same.

"Wow. I don't know that many different words for fire," Ruber admitted as he pondered this rather unexpected development. Actually, he had noticed that there were some people in the pride with the same names as others. This explained that. Apparently not even the Firekin knew that many different words for fire.

"Must get kind of boring after a while. I mean, how many different people will have the same name?"  

[Excited Apathy]

"We come up with ways to tell them apart." Nuria shrugged, the relatively non-controversial topic serving to defray her (carefully hidden) nerves a bit. Her tail still twitched however, like a poorly-calibrated metronome. "Like soldier Ea and medic Ea. Or nicknames, there's no rules about those. Can even get long and fancy, as long as fire's in there somewhere."

"Okay then," Ruber replied with a shrug. It was weird, but hey, you had to put up with a few quirks here and there. He'd wanted to join the Motoujami-Simo because they were a strong, powerful pride of warriors. He may not have known about this particular quirk, but at least it hadn't caught him unprepared now!

"Sure, I'll name any huria. And you can think of all the fire names. That's fair," he answered the statement from earlier. It looked like they'd have plenty of fun with the cubs!
