I'd say either No More Heroes or The World Ends With You. If I only got to choose one... The World Ends With You would be my nominee.

I want to say Brawl, but I have to say its not perfect. Its a good game, fun multiplayer, great music, "******** of unlockables", and a lot of characters to destroy. But its lacking, it might be because there was no surprises because we hyped it so much.

EDIT: Actually, no, it's not the only 2008 Wii game I have. I also got Endless Ocean. But Brawl is better than that.

I'm gonna be the iconoclast here and say that I think the Game of the Year should go to Boom Blox, and not Brawl, simply because, like Kathulu said, there really weren't any huge surprises about the game if you had already played Melee. Boom Blox gets the vote because of the excellent multiplayer, fun tools, and sheer level of awesomeness.

THere are a few more recent titles I'd like to nominate, but nothing can beat Brawl. Good single player, great multiplayer, decent online, ******** of unlockables, amazing soundtrack, etc.

@LF: Chrono Trigger doesn't really count. Sure, it's the BEST ******** GAME EVERRRRRR, but it also came out in 1995.
