Translating songs into conlangs is fun; you have to keep with the original rhythm of the song, and make it so it would stand with the cultural values so tied in with your language

I've been working on translating the song "Once Upon a December" from the movie Anastasia. Here's what I've got so far:

Mirandim še prajkje roj,
Lan, na ko ši remkwetje,
I cansana nini cansju,
Na innostat sosxejþtjensir...

I think I might translate the same thing as Forgedawn is into Aquénandi as well.

I've actually translated some Phantom of the Opera, but that was about a year ago and back then my language was a mess. I might pull those out again and fix up it

I'm almost at a point where I can start translating things into Anzer Pex. I just need to expand the vocabulary (a LOT) and work on the grammar some more.

I've got a few thing in mind, songs included, that I want to translate, but most of them are still a ways off.

I'm also considering translating the first parts of Genesis from the King James Bible or maybe a different version if I can find one. It's so vague and uses mostly simple words, so it really shouldn't be too hard, and I'd love to test out the versatility of Anzer Pex.

Songs, though... Songs will be hard.

^^; I've only translated the first line of the song Noir Desir by Vive la Fete... Je veux etre seul- [English; I want to be alone.] turns into:

Jow nowdachaw behœl œhozsa.
[Pronounced: zsow-now-da-chaw-beh-oh!l-oh!-ho-zsa.]
*The '!' is used to express emphasis.

It's a very literal translation... Maybe I should shorten it up? ninja

An ongoing project, obviously. I actually have to go to class pretty much as soon as I finish typing up the German lyrics, so I'm geting very simple stuff up right now... It's gonna need work for rhythm. Lots of work. But I think I may be able to force it. I'm never as good at speaking as at writing, so with practice I can probalby make it work--the number, so far, is close enough, at least.

I don't know if this counts as a song, maybe more of a non-rhyming poem, but I've translated a few lines from the fictional picture book "The Monster Without a Name" from the anime Monster. For those who don't know, this isn't a real book, but one that was made up just for the storyline of the anime. I'll give as much of the original Japanese as I have...

Japanese (Romanized):
Boku o mite!
Boku o mite!
Boku no naka no kaibutsu ga, konnani ooki ku natta yo!

English:
Look at me!
Look at me!
The monster inside me has grown this big!

Anzer Pex (Romanized):
mi'mne' ke ete' mo-i!
mi'mne' ke ete' mo-i!
kalam t-hras neot z-hu-un-gmetos a'p mo-i nea ga-ul!

I translated a lot of songs into my language when I was younger, unfortunately most of them are gone, and those I have left are quite hard to sing because the language has changed heavily since then ...

But I did translate the song "Flavor of Life" by Utada Hikaru some month ago, and I think it turned out quite well. ^^ Well here it is:

(Notes: "x" is actually an o, but it's romanized as "x" to differ it from the others o:s which have no special function, which this letter has. It's a particle which connect verbs whith each other. "jj" is like a Spanish J, and "ss" is like "sh.")

I don't really translate existing songs, because in Niora (oh dear, I should probably get back to that, its been ages! XD) the phonetics never match up... for some reason... but anywho, I usually just make my own songs, then use them as a basis for new vocabulary. (Nifty, eh? XP)

It would be nice to get comments and stuff on how the language sounds. :3 I've never really decided that it should have a certain accent, so I think it has changed quite heavily under the years I've used it. Right now I think sounds a lot more Japanese then it would when I started to create it, at that time I remember thinking it sounded a lot like German, which it doesn't do at all now, I think. XD

About the file too, seems like I can't record the background music and my voice at the same time with this computer, so I put on headphones and sang to the original version of Flavor of Life. So it's acapella. Also I did some misses in how fast the song should be sung and so on, it's quite obvious, you'll notice it. D:

But it's still better than nothing. :>

I like how the language sounds, but some background music would be nice XD I'm kidding, I really like the phonetics of the language. ^^
