[Fight!] Asil vs. Nur

Logically, Asil knew that speaking of the Qyrhyeshti had not summoned them from the darkness. They were living, breathing, mortal lions just like the Burkuteshti - mortal lions with four legs who had had to travel to reach this oasis, probably for days. That they had spoken of their enemy shortly before that enemy appeared was nothing but coincidence, but it was a chilling coincidence, one he might reflect on later, should he survive.

And he would. Of course he would. He was Asil sim Kosoro, and he'd been waiting for this moment his whole life! When the Qyrhyeshti fell upon the oasis, he was - fortunately, thanks to Sanaz's earlier prank - awake, and quick to rise and fight.

He rushed headlong into battle, throwing himself at an unfamiliar form.

Nur was ready. The others in her group weren't as optimistic as she had been - realists, as they had said - but something about the night felt right. It felt as though the darkness was on their side, that tonight was their night to regain some territory. Much needed territory, at that. Their walk had indeed taken some time, but frequent and efficient resting methods had been used to ensure they would be strong and ready to fight when the time came.

That time was now.

The smell of the Burkuteshti lions was strong in her nostrils as they approached, moving quickly and quietly in the night. A few of the lions were alert, keeping watch, but they were no match for the attack that was descending upon them. A dark mass moved in her direction and she grinned, her ragged lips parting with glee. Claws out and eyes wild, she jumped headlong into the fray that was just about to start. Finally, some excitement!

He should probably have looked before leaping, but he was far too young and impetuous to be possessed of much sense. One day - maybe even today - someone would beat some into him, but as yet, he was far more eager than he was skilled. He should have paused before rushing in, taken a moment to get his bearings and a better look at his 'chosen' opponent before attempting to barrel into them, but again...sense. Lacking.

His charge sent him straight into her ready claws, and while the swipe he took wasn't serious, it did smart. Snarling, he struck back at her.

Nur couldn't help but laugh softly as she heard her opponent snarl. Oh, he was a feisty one, wasn't he? Good...she liked when she had a challenge on her paws. It was never fun to get a lion past their prime or an adolescent that could barely roar properly, let alone fight. But this male seemed to have the enthusiasm for battle, even if he was a bit willy-nilly with his swipes.

She felt her claws find purchase before the male returned the favor. He was larger than she so the massive paw moving towards her might have caused some serious damage if it made perfect contact. As it was, she barely felt a blow, but whether or not that was because she was hyped up on adrenaline or because he hadn't hit her very well was beyond her.

Ducking low, she used her smaller size and speed to her advantage, this time going for his unprotected underbelly rather than his neck or face. Time to deal some damage rather than superficial marks.

Ugh I'm such a newb...so for each turn, does only the person that rolled the highest deal damage? Or do the lions take damage each turn? A 7 roll would be 3 damage, correct? Or would I stay at 10 since I rolled a higher number? >A> And I checked the fighting link but there's no damage count for 10...oh man I'm sorry XD I'm confused ;w;

Whoa, hey, underbelly was bad! There were important things down there! And he didn't wasn't too keen on having his guts spilled out on the sand, either! Asil gave a sound akin to a yelp (a sound he would deny ever making under any circumstances) and tried to get out of the way of her attack, but was only marginally succesful.

She didn't eviscerate him (thank heaven), but her claws dug deeper into his flesh with this strike than the last. It was not so easily shrugged off.

The person who rolls highest does the damage - the amount is determined by the difference between the rolls.
0: Dodged/Missed, no damage
1-2: Light Hit, -1 HP
3-6: Medium Hit, -2 HP
7-9: Hard Hit, -3 HP

So the first turn, with a difference of 2, was a light hit, so Asil took 1 damage. The second turn had a difference of 3, which is medium, so he took 2 damage. Nur is still undamaged :3.

Nur's eyes gleamed with delight as the male moved away from her attack. Good, getting him on the defensive rather than the offensive was key to a successful battle. He was green, she could tell, but that didn't mean she could let her guard down. There was such a thing as beginners luck, and sometimes a fight was won on sheer will alone. The one that could stand the longest would prevail, after all. There was no mercy until the opponent was dead or fled.

She kept at the attacks, this time snarling as she swung her paw up at his face, aiming for his eyes. Keeping the attacks quick and random would ensure a hard hit sooner or later, or at the very least keep her battle buddy moving away from her.

With every movement, more blood dripped down into the sand. His blood. Entirely too much of his blood for his liking. It was...shocking. He'd won his first battle with a mix of luck and having the advantage of surprise, with little injury to himself, one strike just deep enough to scar. Clearly, that first victory had been a fluke.

The moment spent obsessing over the sight of that much of his own blood was a moment too long, and he learned his lesson with a hard smack to the face. Asil reeled back, stunned.

The sound of her paw connecting with the male's jaw made Nur's fur stand on end. She could feel the blood on her paws and it surged through her, giving her move vim and vigor in her step. She had yet to be touched and she felt like a goddess among mortals, fire burning in her chest. She knew she couldn't let it get to her head, though. Any second now the male could find his confidence and fight back.

Nur kept her head down as she attacked again, this time going for a strike to his leg as she pulled her head back to snarl, teeth bared in a gruesome smile. THe scars on her muzzle had never healed properly and allowed far more of her teeth and gum line to show than on the other side of her muzzle, giving her a slightly diseased or decaying look. She thought it was a rather fantastic set of scars and used it to unnerve her more weak-willed opponents.

Had she been on his side, she would have been fantastically attractive, with scars like that. He would have admired them, maybe even courted her, but that was not and would never be the case. She was Qyrhyeshti and, more important still, trying to kill him. There was no room for attraction or even admiration. Only survival.

In the interest of said survival, Asil finally got a little faster, dodging her latest strike and throwing himself at the lioness, hoping to pin her.

Nur's attack didn't hit it's mark and she knew at that moment she had a fight on her paws. Finally the male was turning on her rather than backing up, and the leap took her a bit by surprise. She turned her body to intercept his, colliding with his much stronger chest. It rattled her head and his claws found a bit of purchase on her back, but she shook him off before he could pin her down. Teeth still bared, she turned to attack again, claws extended and ears pinned to her head.

It had taken the male a bit to draw blood, but now that he had, she was ready to fight to the end. She'd prove that she and her pridemates weren't to be trifled with.

Dammit! If he could just get ahold of the blasted lioness and keep her down, he might actually stand a chance. Otherwise, she was just too damn fast for him! Growling his frustration as he was dislodged, he snapped his teeth menacingly and slashed at her when she came near again.

Wiggling free had succeeded, but a quick movement from the male caught her lightly on her shoulder, drawing a bit of blood to her fur. Nur snarled back in turn, darting away to a safe distance to allow them to circle for a moment. The other lion was bleeding more than she, but the blood on the ground was mixed now. There was no telling it apart, even thought the two lions it belonged to were as different as night and day. The sun had set long ago, Nur thought to herself as she kept an eye on the male, biding her time just a bit. The night would prevail.

That moment of safe distance was a welcome one, a moment to breathe and take stock of the situation...although once he did, he wasn't sure he should have. He was in bad shape, worse than her, and that did not bode well. He was losing blood, and even with the brief reprieve from her onslaught, he was growing weaker.

No more waiting, he needed to move. Asil lunged.
