In the wake of the fire, the swampies have fled the swamp, but in doing so, they left a few of their own behind. Two days later, with the fires out, search party has been sent back to comb the swamp for the missing and bring them back to the rest of the pride.
----
Rules 1. No godmodding. Ever. (Unless you're me! ...wait.) 2. Only adult members of the pride have been sent as part of the search party - anyone younger remains in the north with the rest of the pride. Swampies currently on their name quest, regardless of their age, shouldn't be here either unless by coincidence they happen to be returning now (but I will limit this to two, because otherwise that is a very big stretch of coincidence!). 3. This time, if you don't have a swampie, you may post with any other SoA who is in the area for some reason, although they wouldn't be a part of the search party proper. Also, please remember that the Jini-misemi revile hybrids, so be prepared for IC consequences if you choose to use one. 4. This is not intended to be a really large group, so please limit yourself to using no more than two characters in this RP (if you volunteered to have a character left behind and rescued, they will count as one of your two characters!). 5. Swampies who participate in this RP will not be able to participate in another meta-related scenario of undisclosed nature that will be appearing in the near future. 6. All other SoA rules apply.

When the drought-dried swamplands had caught fire, the Jini-misemi had been forced to flee north to escape it. Unfortunately, yet unavoidably, some had been left behind in the ensuing chaos despite all efforts to collect stragglers. Two days had passed since then, with the pride situated safely a few miles away in case the winds changed course and carried the flames towards them. Finally, the fire had died down, and it was deemed safe for a contingent of lions and lionesses to return and search for the missing while the bulk of the pride waited in safety - it was apparent that someone had already determined would be relocating, though there had been no public discussion, a fact which was feeding a certain amount of rumor.
Heading up the search party was Chemankari, one of the pride's Ghosts, accompanied by her eagle, Sesh-ratri, to facilitate communication between the group and the pride proper. The lioness' coat had a decidedly grayish cast to it, as she had been among the very last to leave the swamp after attempting to conduct a last-minute search for stragglers. She had not taken the time to wash away the ash, which worked into her fur gave her a very disreputable look, over all.
Once they passed over the edge of the scorched landscape, she fit in rather well. They hadn't quite reached the swamp itself yet, but they would soon enough. She called for a halt and turned to address the assembled lions.
"We're almost there, so keep your eyes and ears open, and be careful! There might still be some small fires here and there, and we don't need anyone else getting hurt. And stay with the group! We have enough lost lions to find without adding to the list."

Kaimana had forcefully placed herself into the search party, knowing full well what it entailed. She had always been somewhat of a coward, and now came an opportunity not only to prove to herself, but to her pride that she could change. Her heart was beating like mad as they crossed the landscape, fearful not only of what was ahead, but of her own capabilities. Kaimana paused in her tracks as Chemankari turned her attention to the group, her words, while meant to be a reminder of safety, only served as words of defeat in Kai's ears. Ears flattened against her head, and her tail wrapped along her back legs, Kaimana forced ahead with the group, fully unprepared for whatever lie ahead.

A very lost, and confused wild dog had mistakenly found herself lost in the swamps when the fire had begun. She had been far enough away from the pride of lions that called the place home, but once they ahd mostly cleared out, the stark white dog had curiously made her way towards smoke that billowed up high in the sky.
In no time at all her fur was covered in grey ash and her paws were a bit mucky. After a while her gut began telling her this was a horrible idea, but she kept on walking until finally she found the spot the fire must have hit the hardest.
It was perplexing, really. She couldn't smell anything but fire, burnt flora and that mucky smell of a swamp. With all the damage the fire had done, it was impossible for her to tell this probably wasn't a safe pace to be, though the little fire that still burnt here and there should have been enough of a clue, but nope. Kijani was curious and hungry and hoping maybe some injured little prey animal was hobbling around for her to snatch up.
Little did the poor dog know this had been where the Swamp lions called home and even as she looked around for an easy meal, they were coming back to find any lions left behind.

Kurogoke had joined the party a little late, but she was there none the less. She heard the lioness speak and nodded at the words spoke. She would keep her eyes and ears open as she searched for those who were said to be lost. She hoped that nothing bad had happened to them and they could find them with ease.
Pushing through brush carefully, Kurogoke made sure that she wasn't about to wonder in to some cinder, or a small fire. The smell of smoke was high, and on everything. Some things were still warm to the touch when she'd brush her body past it, or touched it with a paw. Even though she had no family, everyone lost was still part of her pride, and very dear.
"Be careful" she kept telling herself, as she very well knew that she was very clumsy and could possibly make things worse, but she couldn't sit back and not do anything when those out there needed someone to help them.

Morska'Zelena was completely covered in dirt, ash and debris. She'd only just made it out of the swamps and back at the pride's territory when the fire started. She'd missed the event, having traveled so far deep into the swamps to both be alone and to go searching for the blue lizard from her childhood. Morska'Zelena had accomplished one, but not the other. And with the area ravaged by the fire, she doubted so small an animal could have survived. She'd have to stop looking for him. But she could still help look for the others.
She recognized some of the search party. And while she didn't know those lost during the fire, she still knew them for being apart of the pride. So instead of joining her siblings, mother and other friends on safe ground in the north, Morska'Zelena had set out with the party. Besides it being the right thing to do, it would allow her to be more alone that huddled with the others in the north. Useful and without having to wear the mask she'd been showing to others so often lately.
Nodding to acknowledge their leader and Daima-tii-mlei's statements, Morska'Zelena carefully followed along, every now and again sniffing the ash covered ground or looking under burnt debris, but she only smelt and saw the remains of the fire.

Baatar was wandering, clearly oblivious to the goings-on around him. He was in deep thought. Quite unusual too, really, as he was normally so aware of his surroundings.
Fighting off the Greenwood monster had not been easy, nor had it been pleasant, but to be a part of it, and to even try, yes, he thought that was worth it, even the bruises. He was the kind of lion who tried his best to help, and that's how he got his joy in life. Especially when a lady was involved, oh, to save a lady from peril, his ultimate karma replenishment.
His red eyes were so focused on the ground, that he did not notice he was walking towards a small group of lions. He looked up to realize, he had no idea where he was. At all. This was not good.
On closer inspection. a few of the lions were covered in ash and dirt, then he caught wind of the word missing. He hopped from foot to foot, trying not to invade the situation, but it was like an itch and sure enough, he padded forward gently.
"Is everything... okay?" He looked over some members of the group with a bow of his head, he did not mean any harm, quite the opposite, in fact.

Yes, she knew there was a child missing. Multiple children, in fact. If no one were missing, they wouldn't be out here! But Chemankari kept impatience out of her voice as best she could. "We have three young ones missing, four adults. Unless someone failed to report a friend or family member missing, but I doubt that."
"Now let's get- Who are you?" The lioness scowled at the unfamiliar gray lion who approached them. "I'll go with the short answer to your question: no, not really."
They hadn't even started yet and they were getting interrupted! Including by someone who'd picked a spectacularly innopportune time to return home - a relative of some degree or another, but she had so many, she didn't really keep track of the technicalities. "That," she answered, "Is a really long story. Most of the pride's north of here, but we're missing a few, so we came back."
Chemankari shook her head. "Now, how about we get looking? We can talk and walk at the same time."
[First up to be found is...Chasasa'koa! Each character may roll one 1d12 (no multiple rolls per character, please), and the first to match my roll (7) will discover our missing swampie.]
