Name: Faris Karim

Title: The Queen's Personal Guard

Personality:

Backstory:

Talise Ramirez
Name: Talise Ramirez

Title: The Queen's Personal Handmaid

Personality: Talise is a girl who is mysterious and very soft-spoken. Yet sometimes she's like the turning pages in a book with no idea of the final ending. She's usually around a water source, be it the out cove near the Oasis or within her own personal dwelling that flows through her residence. In general she keeps to herself, but she's not afraid to step into the limelight when she is needed as the leader of her sect. She cherishes her ability to change the tides at a whim because it's her closest loved one. In general she can be a lazy sort which her elegance has overshadowed. However, even in her subdued nature she can be quick when she is wronged or otherwise lied to. Though minimal, her emotions are sometimes quite random and can flare into a "tidal wave", which make her a good candidate for the position she was chosen for.

Overall, even in the time of battle, she is always found meditating and giving thanks to the water. For it is her life and her love.

Backstory: Once, there was a story murmured among the D'jinn of a war that claimed many lives. Within that tale there was an infant child found among the ruins that was holding onto a flask of water. She was an orphan of course, being very quiet and subdued by the chaos, but strangely not scared or effected by it. The ones whom rescued her were a higher class of individuals of the Water village, Aguas Frescos "meaning cool waters". Here she was raised and given a name Talise Ramirez from her new wealthy parents whom carried the name "Ramirez". In short, the surname meant "wise protector". Her name Talise was granted to her from the findings of the water flask she gripped so tightly.

Rumors spread of this child as she grew more beautiful that she was reminiscent of "Agua" itself. They even went so far to say that her little flask had protected her from certain death itself. As she grew the rumors faded away as most of the townsfolk noticed her innate abilities to control and subdue the water at her command. Her mysterious gaze and a flick of her wrist could twist water that it swirled in ribbons or into shapes. Being around water always made Talise feel safe and content. It was relaxing and otherwise security to keep her strong and alert. She spent most days among water speaking silently as it flowed around her.

When she reached the age of 16 her foster parents were quite proud of Talise's abilities speaking in meetings and crowds of her capabilities. Word reached outward to the Great Queen of this amazing girl. Thus she was called to her audience to see the wonderment and possibilities of her abilities. Talise was a little hindered with such attention, but she kept it low-key, keeping her head upright and her outlook never slouched or unmannerly. It was a great honor to meet the queen herself, but was it really what she wanted? To become a leader whom was trusted to protect the people around her?

To the water jinn's shock the queen sought more then an adviser taking the young girl under her wing. Though branded as a personal hand maiden she had become blood of the royal family without even a second thought. Her parents had officially sold her into servitude for their greedy endeavors. Things were uncertain but the child learned to cope and learn the ways of her new family. Keeping up with her duties she gained so much more then a name... she acquired a new hope.

Air Sect Leader
Name: Layla Hawa

Personality: A strong woman, she has not allowed her blindness to be the detriment many might find it, especially those in line to lead. She instead uses it as a tool, letting those who think she is weaker underestimate her, to whatever advantage she can for her people. She has a good heart, and a clear mind to allow the visions and wisdom a place to grow strong.
Her greatest flaw sometimes is her unwillingness to allow her blindness to stand in her way. She can be stubborn, and refuse the help she should get to do a task that requires sight. Her need to be self reliant can get in the way of her ability to allow others, especially males, close as well. She does not wish to appear weak, as she worries it might weaken the position of the Air Sect.

Backstory: Born to the leader of the Air Sect and his lovely wife, Layla was raised with love and care. When they discovered her blindness, they felt great sorrow, for they assumed this meant she could never be a leader. After all, how could a blind Fae’jinn possibly lead the sect safely? Nonetheless, they raised her as best they could, teaching her as much as possible about leadership, thinking perhaps she would advise or wed the next leader. Meanwhile, she spent as much spare time as possible learning about the people of the sect, and praying to their goddess for guidance and wisdom. They also began searching for, and training, a possible heir, a young male of their sect. His name was Zegrav.

On Layla’s 13th birthday, she was sitting quietly when a loud argument broke out between Zegrav, and a visiting Fire Jinn. The fire jinn was insisting that Layla was a drag on the Jinn as a whole, that any such as she who was weakened by a disability weakened their people. He also insisted that, therefore, any such Jinn should be cast out… not wed to the leader, nor treated as a treasure. Layla rose up and moved towards the pair, unnoticed. Zegrav was silent, not knowing what to say, other than “She is the daughter of the leaders. It is their will.” Layla kept the bitterness she felt at his unwillingness to defend her, and spoke up. “Weakness exists in all beings. We are not gods, and not even the gods are perfect. Being blind does not make me less… and it has not stopped me from living.” The fire jinn whirled, snarling in rage that she’d managed to ‘sneak up on him’, and attempted to backhand her… But she was no longer in range. In a brittle voice she spoke out “Your anger will be your undoing, and soon, only one who can see in the greatest dark will be your saving grace.”

This served to infuriate the fire jinn, Gremalz, and he tried to hit her again. Guards quickly showed up, and the fire jinn was led off, quickly, and escorted back to his home. Days passed, and weeks. It was noticed that Layla would be nearby when someone needed help, or advice… And be able to give it, even if it seemed she should, surely, have no experience in the matter. Then came a day of intense heat, and at the time her mother would normally give lessons to Zegrav… it was discovered he had vanished. A great hunt began for the young man. Signs were seen, at the edge of the town, that he had been dragged off, south, towards the mountains nearby. Layla insisted on going with the search party. Her parents argued, but Layla simply said “I will be needed.”

After several hours of travel they reached the edge of a cave, and found signs that people had entered there, including Zegrav. Layla and the party entered, and began the hunt. As they continued forwards, they became separated. Layla, however, was determined. She knew which way to go. She felt it, heard it in the whisper of the air of the cave. She kept moving… and then cried out, as she was grabbed by 2 sets of hands. “Let her go!” Snarled… Zegrav? It was, and she almost wept in relief… until his next words. “Let her go now, or I’ll kill you with her!” She gasped, shocked, as the voice of that horrid Gremalz spoke out, words of anger, something about a betrayal. She realized… Zegrav wanted her out of the way, and tricked this man into helping him, by convincing him he would leave her here. Not murder her, Gremalz seemed unwilling to do this. She was not sure why, but… she also knew she was the only one who could save herself, and him. She couldn’t see… but this she could do. She used the fact that Zegrav seemed to expect her to be startled, scared, and stunned to PUSH him with a great rush of wind. Zegrav yelled, startled… and then cried out even more, terrified as he fell into the pit he’d planned to push Layla and Gremalz into. Layla gasped and almost passed out, as more knowledge came to her.

Shortly after, the party found them. Upon escorting them all home, Gremalz under heavy guard, Layla explained it all to them. “Zegrav’s mother was Gremalz’s aunt, and it seems Zegrav was hiding under his appearance as one of us. She raised him to want power, and when you selected him… She trained him to hide his desire, and also to hate me… And want to be the sole leader. He connived to get Gremalz to help him, by convincing him all he was going to do was leave me there. Gremalz, while in the wrong, was not willing to commit murder. I advise we send him back, but make it plain he is never to enter this city again. Zegrav’s mother… should be left to the justice of the Fire Leaders.”

After this incident, as time went by, Layla’s skills at helping others soon showed itself to be natural leadership, mixed with a STRONG skill for glimpses of the near future. Her parents trained her fully, and she assumed leadership in the fullness of time.

Fire Sect Leader
Name: Zedonius Abaddon

Personality: When one hears the name Zedonius, they do not come to associate it with the same ideals and beliefs that are exhibited by the other Fae'jinn sect leaders. Oh no. Zedonius is far from being on the same level as any of them, his mouth being one of his strongest weapons as the jinn isn't afraid to tell others what he thinks of them, nor is he afraid to put them in their place when they have fallen out of line. Though, just because he is not afraid to speak his mind, it doesn't mean that he is a brash jinn. He is just fairly blunt, especially when he feels someone is weak of mind; the weak minded considered those whom would tend to favor a diplomatic solution to a conflict as opposed to allowing his troops to display his brilliant prowess as a general and strategist.

And what tends to cling to one with such prowess? An over inflated ego, Zedonius quite possibly being the most arrogant and self-absorbed Fae'jinn that anyone has ever met. This arrogance could also explain the short fuse connected to his temper, the jinn hating to have his beliefs and motives called into question by others, especially when it comes to something that he excells at. Though, just because he is blunt, slef-absorbed, and hot tempered doesn't mean that the Fae'jinn doesn't have a caring side to him; something that has yet to be seen by anyone as he views compassion as a symbol of weakness, it distracting one from being able to properly fulfill their duties to their Queen, their people, and more importantly their troops.

Backstory: As a child, Zedonius did not hail from the typical lifestyle that many of the other Fire Djinn did. Instead of being raised in hate and anger, the young Fae'jinn's impoverished family held fast to the beliefs that all other Fae'jinn, whether they be friend or foe, be treated with respect and compassion. Of course, much to his parents dismay, these beliefs did not sit well with the young Fae'jinn, an unforeseen aggression building deep within. Perhaps it was the influence of the other children he called 'friends'. Or perhaps he was slowly being consumed by the aggressive propaganda being thrown about the village as a time of war was beginning to near. Either way, this aggression had made its presence known, it only seeming to intensify the closer he drew toward adolescence.

But what truly tipped the scale in this welling aggression? What really sent the boy into a fury that would become renowned amongst the Fae'jinn? That was the day his parents became one of the many victims spawned by the war of the Rogue Fae'jinn. And though he may have felt that his parents beliefs were weak, he still cared for them as any child would their parents... suddenly losing them in such a manner being something his mind could not bare; a rage equivalent to that of a wild fire breaking the surface, the terrifying cry of pain and anguish he made sending the small band of rogues into a stupor. This was a mistake that they could not have afforded to make.
Even if Zedonius did not have any formal training in the arts of combat, it took him less time than it would an experienced soldier to dispatch their ranks. And those that might have survived his onslaught? To say the least, he did not leave any survivors that day, their pleas of forgiveness only being looked upon as weak before letting them become one with the flame that consumed him.

And what became of Zedonius? The young Fae'jinn found himself wandering into the wilderness that was the desert which surrounded the village he had called home; his memories of that place being drawn deep into the back of his mind, the knowledge of their existence being locked away for good. Though, even if he had near-effortlessly dispatched the ones who destroyed his home, the wounds which had been inflicted upon him during his outburst began to take their toll, Zedonius finding himself collapsing not far from an encampment: An encampment held by the soldiers of his people, a passing patrol having stumbled across him.

This was a stroke of luck for Zedonius, his weakened form being carried back to the encampment, those wounds that tried desperately to drag him into the awaiting embrace of death's arms being treated and left to healed. His luck seemed to grow even stronger during this time of healing, the commanding officer of this small band of warriors having come to visit him, his mind curious behind the reasoning such a young boy would have strayed so far from his home... Zedonius telling of his ordeal back at his village impressing the commander.

Thus, once his wounds had come to heal themselves fully, began his training. More importantly, training that was closely monitored by the commanding officer himself, the boy's ability quickly grasp the more complex forms of combat impressing him even further. It was almost as if Zedonius had a sort of photographic memory, anything that had been shown to him on the training fields being easily grasped and applied. There was even points in his training where the boy had modified the tactics he learned, bending them to his will so that he would leave his opponent's at his mercy. He was definitely blossoming into a deadly soldier by the commander's standards, the rage which he had used to slay the rogues growing even stronger the more he fought.

And with such excellence, it was not hard for one to see Zedonius rising swiftly through the ranks of this small band of soldiers, his path soon leading him to serve at the side of the commanding officer as his Second in Command. It was truly an honor for him, it having only taken him a few short months to even obtain such a rank, something completely unheard of within the whole Fire Djinn army. Even on the battlefield, his name was slowly becoming recognized by the enemy, the mere mentioning it bringing chills to run down their spines.. each knowing that meeting such a soldier on the field would only end with their blood being spilled across the sands.

This could possibly be the reason that he would later be known as the Demon of the Sands, his ferocity in battle not going unchecked by the High Commander/General of their forces, Zedonius soon finding himself standing before him one day. Though, unlike with the commander whom he had come to view as a mentor, the General was growing old and sought one to succeed him once he passed onto the next life. Zedonius was that Fae'jinn, his unrivaled skill in the art of combat and his ability to lead even the most meek of troops to victory being just what the General was looking for. Of course, it was not only the General who was seeking such a strong willed and determined Fae'jinn, but the Queen herself, word of the boy's exploits in battle having reached the greater city.... and soon, within time, Zedonius found himself not only succeeding the General, but also taking command over his people.

Earth Sect Leader
Name: Jaffar Origenes

Personality: “A force of nature” takes on a new meaning when it is applied to Jaffar. He is cunning, quick-witted, and as aggressive as an earthquake when angered; a true no-nonsense Djinn. When calm, he is very easy going, mostly sticking to nurturing the plant- and animal-life around his home. Quick with a joke and elegantly silver-tongued, he’s able to talk just about anyone into anything. He’s adventurous and fun loving when around others in the same mindset as him. He honestly hates having to fight, but when pushed to it, he is almost unstoppable. In all truth, he’d rather be swinging in a hammock strung between his two favorite trees, talking with the animals that had come to befriend him rather than do anything else.

Because of his upbringing (see below), he does not have any affections for the other Sects. At most, he will tolerate them.

Backstory: Jaffar was raised in a small Earth Djinn village, secluded from the other Djinn. His village was completely devoted to keeping their forest thriving and radiant in the plant-life’s youth and abundance. He, along with a select few other children, was chosen to participate in the studies to become a key player in the workings for the village. Honored, he threw himself into the classes. He learned how to control his magic down to the last speck of energy he had, learned to stretch his physical limitations past what any other could even think about enduring. The child was, no pun intended, an immoveable rock, in that sense.

However, during his training, he was injured. He and another of the boys had been sparring, pushing each other to every limit they had. Jaffar was tired and weak, though still fighting with everything he possessed. He twirled to dodge a punch, only to run right into sparring stick. Though not sharp, the wood tore through the skin over his right eye. After getting medical attention for it, he and the other boy jokingly called it his first battle scar.

Soon enough, he had risen in the ranks of his classes, and come that Fall, he was part of his village’s defenses. Come Spring, he had been moved to the smaller group of Djinn with powerful magic to keep the forest healthy. Come Summer, he had been appointed leader of their village. With all his feats, it did not surprise him the Queen sent word that she’d like his presence at Her home in the next two weeks.

It did, however, surprise him that it wasn’t just to thank him for work. She requested that he be the next Sect Leader for the Earth Djinn. And, grudgingly, he’d accepted.

Water Sect Leader
Name: Nerida Bhattacharya

Personality: Nerida has a natural talent for healing others, even above and beyond that normally associated with Water Fae'jinn. She has never had to work at it, and new skills come easily to her. As much of her early life was spent training her healing abilities, she has come to expect her life to work this way - things will come to her if she wants them. She will work hard for them if necessary, but she can often use her wiles to manipulate others into doing what she needs to reach her goals. Her exceptional natural talent for the Water Fae'jinn skills also has led her to be quite sure of herself, and of her right to use them, especially for what she believes is the benefit of her clan and her queen.

Backstory: Nerida was born to two powerful Water Fae'jinn, and from a young age her skill with manipulating water and in particular, healing, were obvious. Her parents encouraged these skills, and as she grew older they told her that she could do anything, that she was a treasure among the Water Fae'jinn. She decided to set her eyes on the highest goal possible, to become leader of the sect, and left her home to travel throughout Faetasia. She went everywhere she heard that there were Water Fae'jinn to be found, making friends and connections among the many different small villages and tribes, as well as learning the regional skills many of these groups specialized in.

She also took the time to learn about the rest of Faetasia, the other races and lands, as any Fae'jinn in a position of power would need to understand how the other races thought, so that if necessary she could call on that knowledge for the use of her sect or her Queen. During this time she made "friends" with several Faekats of other races, although the relationships were developed more to give her insight and possible allies.

Against her intentions, one of these friendships started to become something more, the wazzit boy's magical skills and kind heart fascinating Nerida even as her beauty entranced him. It was only after several months together that she suddenly realized that she had strayed from her lifelong goals, and she disappeared suddenly into the mists, leaving him broken-hearted. She considers the events as a lesson in becoming personally involved with non-'jinn, and uses the experience to help her keep perspective both in her goals and in her dealings with other races. The small ache she still feels in her heart reminds her to never let herself get that close to another, to always be shifting and moving and never settle.
