Woo. I got into Sonic when I got my Genesis, it came packed with Sonic 2. I absolutely loved the music, the levels, everything. I'd start drawing my own pictures of Sonic and Tails going through levels I made up and stuff. I only got to play Sonic 1 a little bit after that. Then I played Sonic 3 and Knuckles, Sonic Spinball, and Sonic 3d Blast too. We were almost always renting new Genesis games. I played a few of the Gamegear games too... good times.
I was also absolutely in love with the cartoons, both of em. I watched the one with the Freedom Fighters more often though, they gave the other less serious one while I was at school most of the time. I never really bought the comics, I just got a few where I really liked the art or the cover. I wasn't interested in reading them, not sure why though. Anyways, there was that Sega Saturn time period, and sadly I never got to own one.
So on went a long period of time without any new Sonic games for me. I also never watched Sonic Underground, cause I didn't have cable at the time it aired. But soon time passed, the Dreamcast came out, and I was all over Sonic Adventure 1 and 2. Heck, I even played Sonic Shuffle with a few friends.
Fast foward to today, and I'm still a geekoid who enjoys Sonic. Huzzah!

Way-ha-hey back many a year ago my cousin got a Mega Drive I with Sonic the Hedgehog. I saw this game in action and was marvelled by it's graphics and speed. I only had a Commodore 64 back then, so this is was something else in a much larger sense. So I annoyed my parents until they let me get a Mega Drive (II) with, by now, Sonic 2. I was hooked. Loved it. More than I can describe. Actually I can describe a little. When I completed it, I cried with happiness xd redface Didn't manage to get Sonic 3 or SnK (my cousin got SnK though, so we played Sonic 2 w/Knuckles a lot) until 5 years or so ago on SegaPC, but was always renting Sonic 3 from the video-rental shop down the road. Never managed to get a Saturn, so I missed out on a lot of action over the years, but always stayed a huge Sonic fan, making fanfics and THOUSANDS of fan characters and games. After playing Sonic Adventure around my friend's house (I had already wanted it just because it had "Sonic" in the title) I got a Dreamcast with SA, then got SA2 and eventually Sonic Shuffle. Also, I bought Sonic Heroes the day after it came out, and have recently sold it (and regretting it sad ).

Over here, in the general back-water of society, we called the Genesis the "Mega Drive". When my brother got it for christmas one year, it came along with a game... Sonic the Hedgehog. My brother, the nice guy (though mostly an a**) that he is, allowed me to play it on the odd occasion. Though being young at the time didn't really help me out a lot, since I kept getting stuck on the first level a little bit. ;o;
And so, I kept on playing it, eventually finding the cheat codes. Hooray!
Eventually, we got new neighbours across the street, who had Sonic 2. Yay for them, my brother still had the original. So they allowed me to go over and play with them once in a while, using the two player option, or... something. I can't remember.
I missed out on the third, but rented it once from Xtra Vision. I was able, however, to aquire "& Knuckles".
Personally, I thought is was nice when the Sonic Mega Collection came out... brought back a lot of good memories... as well as the fact I hate an zone with the name "Casino" in it. Grr... I still wish I'd been able to play the CD game, though. Ah well.
