1508: Konosawa Saeki

Saeki paced a little outside Patrick’s Pottery Shop. Not because he was impatient but more so to stay warm as he waited. The weather wasn't bad, but he had definitely experienced warmer days, especially here in Soleil. Besides, standing still in this temperature didn’t help either. He had left Aki at home, but he had walked with him thoroughly before doing so and it wasn’t like he would be away for the whole day. His sister Akiko was with him. She had come back to take Aki with her when she was going to visit Canada. She had wanted to go there before and it would serve as a test flight for Aki well enough. It didn’t take long to convince her to take the dog along, she loved spending time with him. In turn Saeki knew that Aki was in good hands.

He stopped pacing once he was warmed up enough and leaned his back against the shop, crossing his arms and looking out over the area before him. His beloved would be here soon, they were meeting at this place. The shop was running really well and the Asian man was proud of his love. Especially considering all they had been through before. It didn’t take long for Patrick to come into sight and Saeki smiled happily. Pushing off from the wall he walked towards the other male so they could meet midway. "Welcome back darling, how did it go?" he said when they met at the midway point. Saeki understood well enough that this wasn’t easy for Patrick. Nor was it for him to relinquish Aki so completely but he knew he was going to be alright with his sister.

Patrick was thinking back on the conversation he had with Saeki a couple of days back at the park where they were flying kites. Thinking helped distract him yet it did lead to the realization they weren’t often without their furry children and this weekend will be spent without them. Saeki’s sister was a surprise guest because he had thought he wouldn't see her until their trip to Saeki’s home country. Didn’t really have a routine to ruin by this visit and no objection to Aki going with her to the woman’s next destination because his fiancee trusts her. Adult time for the both of them and not have to be so self conscious about it. He understands that they have to be so conscious of the pets whenever they do anything more than hugging and kissing, but he couldn’t help seeing them as family members that are smarter than the average pet to comprehend what is going on…and judge th -him. “Gotta stop thinking that. It'll only lead to scary thoughts” he said to himself and shook his head.

The brunette’s facial expression lightened up seeing his fiancee up ahead and coming towards him realizing he had arrived at his destination. Picked up the other with his hands firmly under the arms and gave him a bear hug. “Maybe if you had been there it wouldn’t have been as bad as it was. Great that you're here though it wouldn't be good to be alone for long periods of time right now. I don't want to be alone” he said before letting him down again.He has been made aware of how dangerous his thoughts can get if left alone for too long even with distractions by his therapist. Usually he was pretty tamed when expressing himself so he was learning to loosen up his emotional restraints some. Held the other’s hand as he walked to the front of the shop then let go to proceed into the procedure of opening up the shop. Everything inside looked to be intact then flipped the ‘close’ sign to ‘open’ that was hanging on the window. With his partner’s help at the front of the shop while he worked in the back the workday went by smoothly. This was temporary help as he settled in more of running a shop in the downtown area. Doesn’t intend on his fiancee becoming a full time employee of this place. He had heard those stories of working together could be a damper on a relationship in ways not to be underestimated. Most likely to be the start of some himself.

Stopped work and went out to eat with his partner for lunch after rush hour had slowed down some. Also to do some last minute shopping for the trip. Closed the shop a little earlier so they could have dinner at sunset then turn in for the night early for their morning flight. He had trouble going to sleep until spent a few minutes going over today’s report of how his kittens were doing and a new photo sent to him through text.

Patrick woke up to the alarm clock that he borrowed Saeki’s phone to do. He was half asleep when he reached over to turn off the alarm then paused. For a moment there he almost forgot Hiro and Emerald with Kenzie in another country and was expecting one of them to come running over for feeding time. Checking his phone, there were no new messages, it was probably too early for one anyways considering how many hours ahead they are in Britain. It was supposed to be cold out and overcast based on today's weather forecast. The overcast was right with how dreary lighting from the windows were. Laid back down to snuggle his fiancee from behind, “Morning, darling” he said and his lips spread to a smile. Being affectionate with his partner always did improve his mood and helped distract him from intrusive thoughts. “Want to have an early breakfast before it’s time to head out?” he asked Saeki. They were going to leave two hours before boarding time so they would have enough time to go through the security procedure without rushing. Got up off the futon to get ready to take a brisk warm shower. Doubled checked his luggage and called for a taxi cab when breakfast was almost over.

The airport was busy with people flying in from other places and figured it was spring break for college students because of the age group he was seeing a lot of. Not to mention it was the weekend also. More potential customers for his newly opened shop, but with the timing of him going out of town he won’t be receiving their direct patronage. Although he did put up a sign on the door giving the website URL and QR code for his business website for them to order there. The shop was more of an on site warehouse to do window shopping from displays or catalog or place an order for custom made pottery. With how the weather is it seemed unlikely they would encounter a canceled flight situation. After boarding he walked to the first class section to their seats and his seat was by the window. Move on to do what he told Saeki that does during flights back at the park the other day as soon as he settled into his seat and put his suitcase in the overhead cubby which was sketching in his sketchbook or reading a book. With Saeki here maybe chatting too or little games like tic-tac-toe to distract him from how noisy and crowded this short flight is.

The flight ended without any issues and arrived at the designated airport in a matter of a few hours. The afternoon was spent with them driving around in a rental car to do some sightseeing to cultural and historical places from the intel of a local at the grocery store. Being the one behind the wheel took him away from the phone for a minimum amount of time. End the day of dining out making a date out of it. They don't go on dates as often as they used to and since they are engaged he will like to show his partner that the dates will not cease because of what happened in the past and it certainly won’t after marriage either.

Patrick hid away in his personal, his studio, the very next day of the forest and he was looking over their sightseeing photos from their getaway trip to the lake house. The incident back at the store did shake him up no matter how much he tried to put on a brave front. Didn’t think it was enough to see his therapist yet it did get him to look over recent photos to ease his thoughts about being stalked again. Although he didn’t see any evidence in the photos it didn’t completely erase the feeling of dread. He drew what he felt on paper then ripped the paper to shreds with his own two hands. Doing this helped as it was doing therapy sessions and it put his mind at ease then did it a couple of more times thinking the effects would last longer. In actuality this wouldn’t work for anyone else if they didn’t believe in it and it was a better option than taking medication yet it wasn’t something he would want to actively do if it can be helped. Afterwards he took a nap to make up for missing sleep that night because of a nightmare and wandering thoughts. Came out in the evening and invited Saeki to an evening jog before dinner time because exercising helps him relax and it’s not safe to do it alone. Cook dinner together then watch a movie so the night before bedtime could be filled with laughter and back to some normalcy.

Patrick found tranquility in this rainy weather on a work day. Nothing peculiar was happening and customers were steadily coming in to get out of the rain. It was a good idea to open up today and with Saeki things we're going smoothly and will do it again tomorrow for the same hours if the weather is the same. Depending on the time of day it determined the age group of people coming in. Had a thick, lamented catalog book of crafts and pottery on the front counter by the cash register he made for customers to look at for custom. All those hours at the printing store have been worth it after seeing others use it. Even if the shop makes enough to break even on profits, all that matters is that this place can open when he wants to and decide to close it when he wants to. He was in such a good mood after work, and beaming with confidence that he would reveal his secret box of adult toys to his fiancée and proceed to give demonstrations of their usage. He had them stashed away in an inconspicuous cardboard box at the back of a closet until he was ready to reveal them. Overall, today was very productive both on the clock and off the clock.

Just as Patrick did yesterday he spent the day at the shop during the rainy weather. Would only commute when the rain has stopped or let up some. He felt at peace when it rains because nothing bad happens on those sorts of days. “Even ‘they’ don’t cause me trouble on days like this” he thought, referring to the fans of his ex-stalker and the families of the previous victims were getting the same treatment too. Preliminary Hearing was skipped because the investigation proved to be fruitful even with the lack of witnesses yet picking out a jury for the trial will take some more time because of how wide spread the news coverage was and that the man plead not guilty. The actual date for the trial was set in Autumn which was many months away and the time spent behind bars probably counted towards the sentencing. He thought back to when the detectives on the case were on TV for a briefing and there was a question from a reporter about what criteria was the stalker using to pick his victims. The answer to this question did leave a lasting impression on his mind that led to him asking fiance this question during lunch time while the shop is closed for an hour.. “Saeki, do you…have I ever been too predictable and boring?” he asked and it might sound like a trick question which would be unintentional. Predictable and boring were words used as a commonality between the victims and he is aware he has been less spontaneous in the recent. Living like someone who has settled down and in a stable relationship who developed a daily routine prior to the shop’s existence. .

It had been a few weeks filled with some tension. Not between Patrick and Saeki of course, they were doing well, but in general with everything going on. It was quite a turbulent time, for Patrick mainly. Not that Saeki had never known trouble or danger. When he was younger there had ever been the threat of less friendly people using ‘the little boy’ as a means to get rich quickly. In fact that had almost become a fact once. But with clever planning it had all been averted.

Nowadays no one in their right mind, if they knew about the Konosawa family, would try anything with Saeki. Now that he had become very self-sufficient and became an accomplished martial artist in his own right, it was simply too dangerous now to try anything like that. Still, with everything going on, Patrick’s question still came as a surprise.

Saeki tilted his head a bit and arched an eyebrow in surprise, not understanding why they asked suddenly. "I wouldn’t say that you are boring love." he finally said after a short silence as he remembered the previous weeks and shook his head. "Predictable perhaps because you have a clear routine by now, but not boring. Why do you ask?" His voice was calm and friendly, albeit gently inquisitive.

Patrick watched Saeki after the question had left his lips and quietly listened to the other’s response. The pause before the answer was more believable than a quick one. Reassured by the first response, but then again would he have told if he was actually boring? “It was said that is how he, the stalker, picked his victims” he replied.
