The path long behind her, Meissa began to feel more at ease. The roar of the wind started mixing with splashing of water as she approached the creek, bringing some life to the landscape. She basked in the view for a few moments when she reached the banks, but didn't linger long. It had been a while since she'd seen any oni tracks, but she wasn't going to stay out in the open near such an important feature of the landscape if she could help it.
She followed the creek south for a few minutes before finding a spot that looked rocky enough to cross on foot without getting wet. Her footwear was hardly designed to keep water out, having come from a desert area, and she wasn't about to try her luck wading into unknown waters. She got a running start and jumped from the shore to the first, then second, then third rock without slowing down. As she leapt off of the third, however, she felt the water's cold fingers reaching into her sock. The rock had shifted. She reached the stability of the other bank without too much trouble, but a chill was already creeping into her foot. She needed to find someplace to rest, warm herself, and dry her footwear.
About half an hour later she arrived at a clearing containing a dilapidated building. It had clearly not seen human habitation for a great deal of time, but that didn't rule out monsters or Fades. Pain stabbed at her foot as she silently inspected the building. There were signs that animals may have been in the area recently, but neither she nor Canto noticed any Fades lurking about. Part of the roof had fallen in, but it looked like there was enough space inside to build a fire without everything going up in flames, so she clambered in. A small time later she was warming herself and her soaked footwear. With nothing better to do than keep a look out and wait, she tasked Canto with the former and started to meditate.
