Koji couldn't help but feel a little... Uneasy as of late with the King's obsession with hunting rebels. While he believed it was his duty as a Royal Knight to protect His Majesty and keep order, a duty he was proud to have inherited from his father, something was bothering him with the Golden King's intensity in tracking them down. it was almost as if he was hiding something, a feeling he got when it came to his parents' death. However, he pushed those thoughts aside as nodded to Jonouchi. There was no value in contemplating such things at that time, especially with so little information to go on.
Just then, the sound of majestic horns echoed throughout the throne room, signaling the arrival of the king. "Guess we'll find out soon enough what the king has planned for us," Koji chuckled as he and Jonouchi kneeled on opposing sides of the carpet leading to the Golden Throne as the horns continued to play while the Golden King entered. "Long live His Royal Eminence, Lord and Protector of Zawame City and Keeper of the Golden Throne - King Midas!" |

A few hours had passed. Rei tried to steady her breathing as a couple Armored Riders passed by on their usual patrol. She held her backpack close to her chest-all she was able to find so far were a couple semi-rotten bananas, a half dozen cups of expired ramen and an empty water bottle she planned to fill with river water before returning to the shelter. Not a great turnout, but at least there was almost enough ramen to split and share with the mothers and their children.
She let out a sigh of relief as the guards passed by the alleyway without a glance. As their chitchat faded away, Rei peeked her head out to make sure the coast was clear. That was a close one. I thought for sure they would notice the open garbage lid...I have to be more care-FUUULL! Rei tripped over the tin garbage lid she had left on the ground. Her crude backpack clattered against the cracked pavement. Oww... She gingerly placed the lid back-there was nothing left edible in this can. Rei bent down to push the food back in her small bag, when she notice a strange black item was halfway sticking out. "Odd, that doesn't look like food. Did one of the new refugees put something in here by mistake?" She had not noticed earlier-it was difficult to see black objects in her already dark bag, especially as eternal night plagued the sky. Rei carefully picked it up, not prepared for the biggest shock of (this) life.
Memories filled her head like an empty bowl under a water facet. Team Gaim, Yggdrasil, her parents-she remembered everything. Rei yelped and dropped her belt, then swooped down and stuffed it in her bag. If anyone knew she had one...Wait. What about her other friends? Where Hiyori and the other Beat Riders here? Were they okay? Did they have belts too? What if they had been captured-what if they didnt' know the rules of this world like she did!? Wait, what? How did she live a whole life here AND in whatever world/dimension she just remembered? Which one was real?
Rei slumped back into the alleyway, her head spinning with questions and memories. Tears streamed down her face as her heart filled with panic. Wh-what do I do now!? Is this some sick dream? What's going on!? Hiyori. She had to get in touch with Hiyori, or Sasuke, or just someone she knew from her other "life"! Rei instinctively reached in her pocket expecting to find a phone, but felt only a small hole. A phone....Those things still exist? Suddenly memories of her phone and laptop slapped her mind again. The conflicted girl grabbed her head. Stop it STOP IT! She had to stay calm. Don't think. If she could just find one of her friends....even if they didn't have answers either, then at least she wouldn't be alone.
After a few shallow breaths, Rei ran out of the alley towards the way the troops had went. Zawame was a big place, but hopefully she could find someone before the guard's next patrol round. At least now she knew this city like the back of her hand.
