"Hello. I was told that humans like to keep records of their memories, and I was curious, so I wanted to give it a try. My name is Tir, Guardian of the Enchanted Forest. My home is gone now, but I will work to restore and protect it without rest. In the meantime, I figured I would share some of my recollections with you. I've lived since before the existence of your many kingdoms, so my story may be a bit long winded. I hope to keep your interest."

Entry #1: Seed of the Heavens

I had just recently fallen from the branches of Yggdrasil, buried in the soil of what would become the Enchanted Forest. I had not yet grown a proper body, so I was content with observing the world through my connection with the Earth. As the decades and centuries rolled on, I couldn't help but be curious as I felt the pitter patter of tiny paws collide with the surface of my underground home. It filled me with a sense of wonder, as well as a bit of paranoia. I was merely a seed, but at that point, I had the mind of an average child. I was a motionless, defenseless seed, wedged in the dirt of a world unknown to me in every sense. I longed for the branch of Yggdrasil, my mother, hanging deep within the cosmos, and yet, part of me was eager to finally break through my shell and see this land. I wanted to learn what this world had to offer, and see what I could offer it in return. I wanted to see creatures like whatever being just scampered above my dwelling. My sense of wonder was as boundless as the void of space which I once called home.

Three years later, after feeling mother nature shower me with life-giving water and sun, my shell had finally cracked, allowing me to break through the earthen ceiling and stare up into the heavens. I was now a sprout, experiencing the world for the first time. I was still rooted to one spot, and therefore defenseless, but I didn't care at the time. I was still a child, blinded by wonder and excitement. Suddenly, a small thumping sound approached me as a brown furred rabbit came over. The creature was innocent, merely following the path of nature, even when it was about to nibble at me. Suddenly, a bushy blur of orange struck out, pouncing on the rabbit. The little creature let out a horrid squeal as the fox finished it off. I was happy to not be eaten by the rabbit, but I felt sorry for the little one. Then again, I soon realized the fox only killed it for survival, as the rabbit would have done to me. Life can seem cruel, but the world goes on. I sort of have a respect for the food chain of the forest. Humans kill for all sorts of reasons, throwing all sorts of negative emotions into every blow, blade, or poison. Animals, at their core, don't bring grudges into their daily life. The fox didn't hate the rabbit. It didn't want to steal some sort of power or item. No anger. No greed. Just survival. Life was simple here. Thinking back to this story makes me feel puzzled on why the kingdoms seem to hate each other so much. Yes, I have seen the start of this war, but not the hearts of the men who signed their decrees, nor the men who slung the first arrow. I know having them kill and eat each other is no good solution, but perhaps if they took a less emotional approach, things would be different. Who knows?
