Ambra after finally catching her breath would speak up.

"Everyone! By bringing the Orb back to the magical lay lines this town was built upon it has already begun to do its work and reverse the magical affect that was drawing the monsters here. There should be no attack by wild animals tonight. However, we still have not exactly ascertained how the Orb was smuggled out other then by transportation magic so I feel like it would be best to post a guard here for now, otherwise everyone should return to their homes and get some much needed rest."

((22 diplomacy to calm the disperse the crowd and get a guard.))

Considering that the probably only inn in town would no longer take him, Aelgeirr would take his kit and move to the room where the orb was in and set up his bedroll. If Ambra's speech would do anything, then good. If not, then he was here. Probably meaningless anyways but...

@ A-Team:

There would be more murmurs from the crowd. Aelgeirr, you didn't feel like you did anything to greatly influence the situation. "Uh... if you aren't that certain, I don't think we will give you guards to help you watch the orb, just in case you're wrong. Maybe if you weren't volunteering to watch it yourself..."

Ambra gave her short speech then. There would be a few moments of silence, before someone would let out a cheer. Some claps started, and it would turn into a full applauds by the crowd, coupled with more cheers and d4 whistles. In response, some other people began to open doors and peek outside to see what was going on.

"Okay, everyone, quiet. Quiet," the mayor would say, gesturing with her hands while facing the crowd to calm themselves, and they would quiet. "She is right, everyone should still turn in like normal. One early night won't hurt anyone, especially if she is correct about the Orb. Please, let us all return to our homes, and rest soundly this evening." The crowd would talk amongst themselves for a few seconds, before dispersing, like Ambra desired. Your passive insights aren't high enough to get an accurate appraisal of the mob's mentality before they were gone.

"If the Orb is back, and what you say is true," Liartes would start as she approached the two of you, "Then we are indebted to you for saving our town. If we are spared from assault tonight, then come see me in the morning. I fully intend to honor our agreement to the best of my ability. Friend Eladrin, thank you for volunteering to guard the orb for us this night; everyone is tried and exhausted, so the opportunity to rest instead will undoubtedly be appreciated." She would smile, very sincerely to you, despite the tiredness in her eyes. "Thank you both, and any allies of yours who aren't present, for saving my town."

And Liartes would leave.

Aelgeirr is already initiating his plans for the night. Ambra, what do you want to do before I fast forward to the morning? This question applies to Mercy and Thork as well.

Ambra waves tiredly but polity to the mayor. "I'm just glad its over. Anything else can be discussed in the morning. For now, let us all get some rest."

Before going to bed , Ambra explains to the guards that the goblin Thork brought to town might have the ability to teleport, even through walls, so that threat must be properly guarded against so he doesn't escape. She also instructs them to make sure the goblin is properly searched and stripped of any items. Confident in Aelgeirr's abilities, Ambra finds someplace nearby to sleep and gets some much needed rest.

(At this point, I think it's safe to say we're moving on without Paidi or SCN...)

Aelgeirr and Ambra would settle in to their respective locations: The latter into her cozy bed, the former onto the ground in a relatively small chamber for his build, a mystical artifact hovering over him silently while he tranced.

No attack would occur this night.

--------------------

The next morning...

Aelgeirr and Ambra would find their way to Liartes's office at some point, the three of you alone. Liartes would be behind her mahogany desk, fingers interlaced before her as her elbows rested on the surface.

"Once again, thank you for everything you've done for Clearwell. Your actions have saved many lives, while risking your own in the process. We are all indebted to you."

Liartes would still seem tired, but she seemed a bit more at peace today than she did 24 hours prior when you were in this office. "As I promised you yesterday, I will reward you for your heroic deeds. But before that, I'd like to debrief you first on the events that transpired, so we can take the appropriate measures to make sure something like this does not happen again."

All active players are now tasked with explaining the sequence of events of this story to the mayor. As a hint, there are five major plot points. Your reward will be 500 gold pieces each if you do not get any, but if you can recap any, you will gain 100 more gold pieces each; if you can recap them all, there will be an additional reward!

This is a group effort, not an individual one, so feel free to utilize one another to help figure out any areas which you aren't certain about. Liartes may prompt you for clarification on some matters if you have a partial answer.

Being a more military type, Aelgeirr kept himself at attention as he recounted what he recalled of events. "As we left this office, we determined to search for the thieves. After making a series of inquiries, we were lead to the outskirts of the village. We found the goblin who had the orb and followed him to the goblin warrens. The party then proceeded to clear out the warren and captured the goblin priest before he could summon an avatar of his god. We then brought the orb back with the goblin. The rest you know." The Eladrin then relaxed and waited for questions.

Liartes would frown, her brown wrinkling in a bit of disappointment and frustration. "Well, I am grateful for that, as are the people of my town. But if that's the extent of it, it sounds like we are helpless to prevent this from happening again. There's nothing more you were able to figure out?" she would ask.

Aelgeirr took a deep breath and rubbed the bridge of his nose. This village was starting to grate on him and he'd rather be gone, but money is money and he would try this again.. "Your tower seems very vulnerable to teleportation magic. There is a goblin holding nearby that seems to be filled with gnomish traps and the like. It was where the goblin priest took the Orb. You may want to clear out the thieves in your town. There seem to be a bit of organization to them, and they're willing to work with goblins. That's all that truely struck me about your ...predicament."

Liartes would nod solemnly. "Then we'll definitely invest in arcane wards that prevent teleportation. I don't know if Kendar had some originally that just faded, but I'll make it a point that Clearwell government maintains their upkeep."

Liartes takes some documents at her desks and fills out a little bit of information on them. "Take these to the treasurer, and he'll see you reimbursed accordingly."

Aelgeirr and Ambra receive cheque vouchers for 600 gp apiece!

"On behalf of everyone in Clearwell, thank you for saving our town." Liartes would stand up from her desk, extending her arm over it to shake each of your hands.

After departing the mayor's office, where do you go?

Aelgeirr would hold up the holy symbol that he acquired. "I'm going to see if this hateful thing has a purpose. I admit, I kind of hope it doesn't. It's the best buttscratcher I've ever had. After that, I'm going to leave this town. I think I've not made myself too popular here. Besides, there's probably no work to be had here anyways. If you like, Ambra, I could use a traveling companion. If you choose not to, that's understandable." Pending Ambra's response, Aelgeirr would do the best he could to figure out what the symbol did.

(Sorry, I've been so busy I've barely kept up with my own game I'm running, let alone this one. I missed the last few posts.)

Ambra, who seemed a little subdued for a while now, finally responds to Aelgeirr. She looks at him with a weary gaze, as if it will take more than one night's rest to recover from this incident. "Thank you for your offer, but I have to return to the mage academy. My parents are spending good money to send me there and I don't want to disappoint them, though... though I don't know if I want to be a wizard any more."

Ambra would look down at the ground. "Burning people alive with my magic. It was only through my rage at what they did to the townsfolk that I was able to do it. I don't ever want to feel that anger again... or hold someone dying in my arms, unable to help them." Ambra then suddenly looks up a glimmer of hope in her eyes. "I... I think I will take up studying how to heal people with the arcane. Unorthodox I know, but with that, I think I could be happy again."
PostPosted: Mon Sep 25, 2017 11:42 pm
Aelgeirr would nod to the little tiefling. "I wish you luck on your own path. May you find what you wish for at the end of it...and good bye, Ambra. May we meet again."

And with that, the two remaining characters split up, off on their own paths.

As the A-Team split to go their separate ways, they would still be in earshot of two villagers talking, a human and a dwarf.

"Thank the gods that this crisis is over. We can finally go back to resting easy again," the human would say to his shorter walking companion.

"Aye, we be safe, but not everyone's so lucky. Me cousin, over in Coppersledge, he be writing to me, telling me how his clan has been in a spot o' trouble for some time now. He be telling me that the very mountain itself has turned against them. Things aren't looking too good for 'em," the dwarf would respond as they continued on their walk, unknowing of the adventurers within earshot.
