She had even helped the ones she felt were responsible. But she had learned a great many things. One thing she could not do however, was afford to stay in that place a moment longer. She continued down the lonely path, having followed someone else to this place. Her hood was pulled down tight over her head, masking her face and bright pink hair.

"The world is fragile, just like the minds of men and can be easily changed."

Escher walked, slowly but moved with purpose. He wore a robe that came down to his ankles. It was white and had two red horizontal stripes lining the bottom. It was a robe that could have been easily identified as a shinobi coming from the village hidden in the leaf. He had his hood up, to protect himself from the elements that presented themselves within the rain country. He was hoping to find the answer to the question that has troubled him for awhile now. This question would help him determine his future.

Masato would arrive with Kirito where he was instructed to go earlier that day. Usually being one for details, it was upsetting that Masato couldn't remember if Armand told him he would meet him here personally or via clone, or if not just send someone else entirely. Grumbling to himself over his own shortcomings, the male scratched at the back of his head as his dark orbs glanced around, obviously having turned over his ocular asset somewhere along the way. Not seeing anyone around, all they had to do now was wait for the arrival of whoever was suppose to show up.And I thought we were running late ahaha..

Kirito Yurei
Hurt

My b*****d Style Is Simple...

Kirito arrived at the Old Path in a completely new attire from before with the notable absence of his glasses and in their place an eye patch of sorts on his left eye. Upon seeing his new friend, Masato, Kirito threw his arms wide in order to show his new clothes. "What do you think? Perfect for laying low wouldn't you say?" He asked. The boy disliked drawing attention to himself and part of him worried that the new clothes were too much. This entire conversation was part of his plan to befriend his fellow shinobi hyuuga who had took the time out of his day to teach him a hyuuga technique.

But It's Enough To Deal With You.

Masato was just standing there, kicking one foot back and forth in the dirt while he rested a hand on his hip, the other hand resting along the back of his neck. He was beginning to get bored as he waited, strongly wishing he had brought a book or something along with him. In fact, he was almost incline to check his lower back pouch to see if he had put one in there and simply forgotten about it, but he definitely recalled not putting a book there that morning. While pondering to himself about how to spend his time, a voice called forth to him from behind. That was weird, he wasn't so deep in thought that he wouldn't have heard someone walk up on him, so how did he miss it? In a more normal situation, he would have instinctively snapped around to face the origin of the sudden voice, but this voice quickly registered so there was no need for such a reaction. Turning around he would seen Kirito, or who was suppose to be Kirito, but they were dressed completely different and carried a different air about them, but perhaps he could have been imaging that.

The boy in front of himself was wearing sleek black clothing that looked pretty sharp yet also gave the feeling of being bland and normal as to not draw any unnecessary attention to himself.
Looks good. I like it. You definitely give off that citizen vibe haha..The small laugh that followed his statement was one of uncertainty. He wasn't sure how Kirito would take that. He didn't mean it as an insult in any way, but no matter how good the clothes looked, Kirito himself gave off that bland look. Figuratively, he seemed like a shadow. A background character, and Masato couldn't understand why. If that was Kirito's intentions then he was doing a good job, if not, then he felt bad for the boy.Hey, I have a question. Why do you always try to blend in? Are you shy? I only just happened to notice that whenever I used to bump into you, whether it be getting groceries or at the library, you never stood out until I bumped into you or sat next to you. Do you try to be a ghost? No offense or anything..Masato was hoping his question didn't portray itself as an insult.

Kirito Yurei

My b*****d Style Is Simple...

Kirito was glad the look managed to give off the intended 'vibe' he was never one for understanding social norms. He would never find himself being offended by such things because he simply did not understand them. There was just no need for someone that had to go unnoticed. Sometimes he wondered if that awkwardness would make him stand out even more ironically. Kirito was adjusting his eye patch slightly to ease a slight itch when his new friend asked him something. People that maintained long interactions with Kirito sooner or later started becoming curious about the boy and why he acted the way he did. It didn't bother Kirito to tell them why. Mostly because no one remembered him afterwards anyways. It was only annoying when someone he already knew at one point tried to get close to him again. As indifferent as Kirito was. Being completely forgotten by someone and then having that person act like nothing ever happened hurt a little. "No, no it's alright." Kirito started while looking at his hands. "It's what my clan has taught me and what we strive to be, Masato." Kirito said plainly. "Nothing too great and nothing too low. We just want to be. Being a shy shinobi would be troublesome. I have my convictions and do not fear killing, but I simply to choose to avoid interactions. The Yurei are ghosts in a sense. And in no time at all Masato. I will be just that to you as well. A ghost in your memories."

But It's Enough To Deal With You.

It was about half an hour to midnight, almost time for them to begin their mission. "Tell me, have you ever heard of the Black Path? It's an interesting legend, spread around through the caravans and workers in the borderlands. If you believe it, the Black Path is simply a long and winding road through the forests in the countryside. However...you can't ever just 'get on' the Path. You'll always just stumble upon it. It's truly an enigma...a piece of land that is completely unstuck from time and space." The Amekage kept spinning it as legend, but continually gave a few knowing glances towards the two to see if they were still paying attention or not rolling his eyes.

"It's said that it's easiest to stumble upon the Path during midnight on an anniversary of great tragedy. See where I'm going with this?" Armand would procure a lantern from within his kage robe and ignite it, filling the forested area with a dull orange glow before offering it to one of them. "Your mission is to retrieve something that I might've er...misplaced while walking the road. My advice would be be to simply follow the old path out of the village, and go where your heart pulls you. You'll know when you're on the path, and you'll know the item when you see it."

Armand gave a wave of his hand. "You have a half hour until your chances are optimal. Go now. And...my regards to the river-man."

Masato was glad to see his question didn't rub off in the wrong way. I mean, they had just become friends, it would be a shame if something were to ruin that already, especially something that wasn't intended at all. "It's what my clan has taught me and what we strive to be, Masato. Nothing too great and nothing too low. We just want to be. Being a shy shinobi would be troublesome. I have my convictions and do not fear killing, but I simply to choose to avoid interactions. The Yurei are ghosts in a sense. And in no time at all Masato. I will be just that to you as well. A ghost in your memories." Masato wasn't sure how to take in these words. The first part was understandable, especially if that was how he was raised to be. However, he didn't like the choice of words attached to the end of his explanation, ever more so how he said it so plainly as if it was a natural occurrence. Regardless though, Masato still found it hard to believe that the friend he had just made was simply going to become a ghost to him like that, especially in 'no time at all'. He was confident in his ability to retain information, or rather, he was, but something about how Kirito said that in a way which was so matter-of-fact like, almost made him second guess himself. So what are you saying? That I will forget you or something? Haha, that's a bad joke Kirito-kun. So what, if you're supposed to be a ghost, then what is your body, the shell you are possessing, or rather, what you are trapped in? Do you have a Ghost in the Shell Complex or something?

Masato teased. He wasn't making fun of Kirito in the least, just his choice of words. However, he should of seen that coming with his previous choice of words as well. Before their friendly idly banter could continue, Armand broke free from the treeline and moseyed on over to the two, spewing off some nonsense about the Black Path. Or rather, informing them of the legend. Masato was already aware of this even though he was still relatively new to the Rain Country, but regardless he continue to listen wholeheartedly. After his spiel, Masato reached out with his free hand and took the now lit lantern from the Amekage. So we have half an hour, and are supposed to let our hearts lead the way hm? Welp, I guess we better get going then eh Kirito-kun?Flashing a friendly smile to his partner, the Chuunin waved his goodbyes to the Amekage and began to walk the road of life, just letting it take him wherever it pleased. My regards to the river-man..?Those words seem to stick with Masato for better or for worse.

Kirito Yurei
Hurt

My b*****d Style Is Simple...

Kirito was about to answer the next series of questions from Masato when the Amekage came. It was a conversation for another time or perhaps never at all. The boy listened to all the Amekage had to say and really could not quite make out what the story was about. Kirito found it odd how the Amekage would choose to be so criptic in his mission briefing something that could be of utter importance to Masato and him was now lost, because the Amekage wanted to appear...enigmatic?

When he was finally gone, Kirito turned to his partner and said "Our Lord Amekage has problems with his authority would you not agree?" Kirito asked watching the man grow smaller and smaller. But before he got an answer Masato asked if they should get going. "Of course." The boy replied ready to follow his partner into the depths of of what ever lie ahead for the both of them.

But It's Enough To Deal With You.

As the pair walked through the woods close to midnight, things seemed very usual. Crows would fly in flocks, over the treetops. At twenty minutes passing, a weak thunderstorm began. Every bolt of lightning would occasionally light the path for them...but also the paths around them. Every flicker of electricity would light silhouetted humanoid figures in the brush. Dancing, weeping, reaching out.

If they looked, there'd be no chakra, no indication that anybody was there, and any attempts to find these people if they were seen, would be for nothing.

As the clock grew closer to midnight, audible voices could be heard in the trees. Some of them talked of events past. Some of them talked of events that hadn't taken place. A disembodied voice would speak the words that Kaisen had said during the invasion three years ago.

At midnight, the two would come across a large tree, towering over all the others. Emerging from that tree, was figure in a black cloak and hood. Under their hood, the lamplight might've shown the contours and shadows of a bear's skull. It stood motionless, only slowly raising a finger to point at the two, then moving it's hand slowly to the left, pointing off into the thick brush of the woods. In it's other hand, now being offered, it held a glistening emerald. "For one of your souls.", it spoke. It's language was a low rumbling and growling, but somehow the two would understand it. A soul for the emerald. The deal was very clear.

The eighteen year old Chuunin continued along the dark path with a casual stride, walking this somber road with his companion in silence. Correction, partial silence. Masato had been humming to himself for the past little while, and that's not counting the occasional flock of crows that would flutter to and fro, yelling out their thoughts to the vast darkness with each caw. Roughly twenty minutes into their journey a weak thunderstorm began, which while it was seemingly creepy, Masato also warmly welcomed such a sight because with each flash from a bolt of lightning that danced across the sky came a clear view of their surroundings. Yet again, on the contrary, perhaps it was best if it didn't light their path at times, because in the slightly dense brush they could see silhouetted humanoid figures, some dancing, others weeping, and those even reaching out as if trying to claw themselves free of something. Even when looked at while making using of his ocular asset, the Byakugan, he would never see no chakra, or even any indication that someone was there, so eventually he sorta gave up on the idea and just assumed, or rather came to the conclusion that this was a part of the Black Path legend.

So it wasn't something he could logically describe even if he so desired, leaving him to accept it for just what it was, an anomaly. The more that the two of them walked the path, the longer that night dragged on and grew ever the closer to midnight. As the night crept along the things that Masato deemed anomalies grew ever the stranger, now voices calling out from the shadowy figures. Just like before, they varied vastly with those talking about the past, some talking about what one could assume to be the future, but even then, there was a voice that stood out from the rest. This voice was disembodied and spoke words that Kaisen had said during the invasion three years ago, however even though Masato wasn't there to here them the first time, so he was unaware at the fact that they were said back then, they still resounded firmly in his head after hearing them. Eventually the theoretical clock stroke twelve and the two amigos found themselves at the base of a tree that towered over the rest by far. While they stood there and waited for their heart to tell them what direction to go next, a figure draped in black, face covered by a hood and darkness. At the appearance of their guest Masato raised the lantern and illuminated the visage of this figure, showing off contours and shadows that would closely resemble that of a bear, or more specifically it's skull.

The figure said nothing and stood motionless for quite some time until it raised a finger and pointed at the duo before changing the direction it was pointing to the thick brush on it's left. Raising it's other hand, the cloaked "anomaly" would present forth a glistening emerald, being shown off in such a fashion as if it was being offered to them, which indeed that would be the case as for when the figure finally spoke, it presented it's offer of the emerald for a soul. Despite the language of this figure consisting of only low rumbles and and the occasional growl, the two of them would understand it perfectly for whatever reason. Yet another anomaly. This trip was turning out to be quite the experience. What made this all the better though, was that Masato would find a meaning in this. Turning to face the cloaked figure, he would merely ask it a question.
Are you the river-man, or do I need this emerald to see him?T'was a fairly simple question, but nevertheless, depending on the answer it could have a devastating impact.

The Watcher quietly spoke in response, unwavering in his stance and offer. "A soul for the toll." Perhaps the way he pointed was the correct path. And perhaps the river man only accepted such an object to grant passage.
