Castiel's eye unconsciously twitched at the jabs directed at the name he gave. Though he understood that 'Winchester' was less commonly known as a family name as it was eclipsed by the fame of the rifle that bears that name, it irked him on a personal level.

"You remind me of a brother of mine..." grumbled Castiel. "His name was Gabriel."

"Thanks, I think." Diana responded with another ear twitch, the name was vaguely familiar. "You plan to just hang around here, or are do you want to come along, see what that light show was about? If so we might as well get started, can't do much here, and its a few hours from the nearest human habitation."

"Light show?" Castiel chest clenched viciously when he realized what she had meant. "N-No need to investigate as I can tell you."

'Investigating' would only get me killed and I can't die yet. Dean needs me. I put him in danger and before I die I need to make sure he's safe and will remain safe.

"Maybe we could make a deal. I explain the... the 'light show' to your satisfaction and then you escort me safely to my destination. Are you interested?"

Diana nodded at his offer, judging from his reaction what ever happened was defiantly more then just some random meteor shower, and if he had answers it was worth sticking around for, and who knows it might just be fun.

"That sounds fair enough to me, it must be a pretty interesting sorry, which is why I cam to check it out. Wanted to know if something new was going on. Tell me whats going on, and I'll help you get to where your going, might take a bit of time though, not going to try and cary you."

Castiel had relaxed enough that the adrenaline was wearing off. The trembling in his hands worsened and his knees buckled. He clumsily sheathed his blade and awkwardly fell back against the tree softly, sliding down to the ground.

"My current state is related to... the 'light show'. I'm- I was an angel of the Lord."

Her eyes brows almost disappeared unto her hair line at that admission. Diana was use to weird stuff, after all it made life much more interesting, still that was something even she didn't expect.

"I thought you angel guys just hung around heaven and just looked down at everyone else, like some sort of supernatural peeking Toms, sounds like I missed some interesting stuff if you guys came down..wait what do you mean use to be?"

Castiel sighed at the prospect of having to go through more than just his recent failures. There were so many, too many. His smaller but no less destructive failures could be glossed over but the big ones he might have to relive.

"We did stay away from Earth, though I do not understand the reference you made to describe our distance. We were forbidden from coming down until four years ago: the righteous man went to hell and succumbed thus began the 'End of Days'. Our interference then became mandatory or so I was lead to believe..."

The weary angel closed his eyes and leaned back against the tree trunk, remembering the day his life was forever changed. The day he clawed his way into Hell and found the most beautifully intricate soul...

Diana's lip trembled then, and she looked a bit dejected. "You mean I missed a bunch of stuff? I guess I was wrong about earth being boring now."

Diana crouched down, resting her arms on her knees as she looked at Winchester, blinking as she noticed just how tired he looked. "Okay, I get the hint you need rest, maybe you can tell me more latter."

Diana the reached into a bag at her side and pulled out some bread, cheese and dried meat. "Here catch, sorry its nothing to good, but looks like you need something to eat first, most mortals need to eat you now."

She tossed the food over to Winchester, she couldn't help but feel a bit sorry for the guy, it looked he he didn't have a friend in the world.

"Thank you." he said as he caught the pack of food, surprised at the generosity.

He supposed he should have been worried about poison and the like now that he was almost human. But if the food was tainted the result would be the same as refusing to eat the offered food. He hesitantly unwrapped the the meat, cheese and bread.

"You are very kind to share." He nibbled on the bread at first then slowly started taking bolder and bolder bites. "Honestly, I think that being absent for all this is a good thing..." he commented softly after finishing the bread.

Dean would have been better off without me...

"Oh! Do you happen to know where we are? I need to go to my friends but I have no idea where I landed..."

"Colorado I think," Diana responded as she watched Winchester eat, she had plenty of food so it was no but deal that she gave him some of it. "Not sure what part of it, I never was to good at geography, and I don't really keep a map of this world, as I said for the most part I tend not to come here."

"Colorado? Oh good!" Castiel let out hefty a sigh of relief. "I need to get to Kansas so it's not too far-"

I don't have wings anymore...

"Hopefully we can find a bus-"

I don't have any money...

He let out a frustrated groan as he stuff the last of his meal, a bite of cheese, into his mouth.

"This might still be a long trip..." he grumbled after swallowing. "Maybe I can catch you up on the road?"

"We'll focus on that latter, you still look like you could use a good rest. I'll keep watch for a bit and if I get sleepy Shade can watch." As she spoke Diana gathered a few leaves, which she blew on. With in a few moments she had what appeared to be a nice pile of American currency.

"I miss having the ability to do that, even if I never needed it before-" a yawn burst from the angel, unbidden, catching him by surprise.

Blinking owlishly he slumped down lower down the tree trunk, his trench coat scrunched up his back. Some weak shuffling pulled down the fabric and settled the garment comfortably on his curled up form.

"I really would like to tell you my name..." he began softy before being interrupted by another yawn. "But you never know who else might be listening..."

Those words were interrupted by a soft snore.

Diana chuckled as she watched 'Winchester' fall asleep, it looked like sticking around might prove a lot more interesting then she first thought, even if it was just to find out what other secrets he held. Part of her was surprised that he hadn't tired harder to kill her, everything she had heard about angel has given her the impression they had more interest in killing what humanity called 'monsters' not work with them, then again this one seemed difrant, possibly his new found mortality.

"Guess we'll stick around for a bit," Diana whispered to Shade, who had left her shoulder and was now perched on a nearby bush. "This might just prove to be very fun"

~*~

'Cas!' a familiar scream shattered the silence of the dark void.

'Dean?" Castiel became hyperaware, ready to help Dean in any way necessary. 'Where are you?!'

'Cas...' The name trailed off into a wet, bloody gurgle.

'Dean!' he cried out in overwhelming panic. ' Dean! Answer me-'

Suddenly his arms were weighed down causing him to lose his footing but he recovered quickly. Castiel looks down to find that a bloody and broken Dean Winchester had materialized in his arms.

His brain just stopped.

His mind went blank in shock in despair.

He was rebooted by the blinding silhouettes of broken wings that appeared one by one until there was nothing but searing light.

"DEAN!!"

Castiel violent jerked forward into consciousness: his forehead was slick with sweat, his was breathing frantic, his eyes searched desperately, and his fists wered clenched so hard his nails almost broke skin.
