Rider

Name: Saain
Age: 30
Gender: Female
Sexual Orientation: Straight
Former/Current Craft and Rank: Healer / Wing rider / Journeyman
Rider Rank: Wing rider

History: History: Saain had a twin sister. They were born to a pair of healers, Nator and Sia, with Sia cheerful sister Lanie watching over them. They had a elder brother, Kiaen and a younger brother Nal and things seemed perfect. Her eldest brother had impressed a bronze early on the sands at twelve. She and her sister were to be healers, apprentice at the tender age of ten to learn an ancient important art.
Saain thought everything would be wonderful, that she and her twin Maina would be masters together. That she would marry her current boyfriend Tamir and they would have children that would be friends with Maina children. She was naive and her sibling wonderful boyfriend was abusing her sister.

Saain tried everything she could to keep her sister way from her boyfriend. Tried to get Maina to leave him. Tried to ruin her cover stories but tried to keep things discreet. She didn't want to embarrass her sister, her parents, their teacher. She watched her sister slowly denigrated, frantically covering and Maina become pregnant and then died. Her twin was dead and the b*****d that caused her death had just walked away.

She was angry and confused and needed any sort of answer. Saain walked the table at eighteen, a journeywoman and left her hold to track him down. She left Tamir, they had fallen apart in her frenzy over Maina and left her hold. She was going to find that b*****d and make him pay for what had happened to her sister.

Saain found a group of travelers and traveled with them to place to place, practicing her trade and trying to find the elusive man. She never meant to impress. Certainly not at twenty one, providing extra help off the sands because the weyr's junior healer was ill. The last to hatch, the green did so awkwardly, upside down and wings crumpled under her body. She hopped and keened and scuffled about in nervous energy, surrounded by hopeful candidates. Saain didn't expect the green to cry out and burst off the sands and burry her head in her skirts. Or to bond, but that was a clear soft female voice in her head. Her Serinuth.

Then there was Oliver. She never had a student before and a slum rat was not how she wanted to start. She was hard on the young man but slowly she started to soften. Oliver as intelligent, quick, and devoted to caring for his younger sibling. Saain started seeing them as less of a choice and more of being trapped in the slums. He had been born here, what choice did he really have?

Things soften, perhaps a bit too much. She shouldn't have started the relationship. He was her student, four years her junior but he was so eager, and had such clever talented hands. Saain should have been more careful, she ended up pregnant.

Oliver would have been a good father. She had watched him raised his younger brother but Saain couldn't stomach having a child where she was. Having her child used by Fahd, handsome and evil to harm them both. She left, left everything behind but some packets of dust. It was light, worth more than it weight and she needed to go home.

Those little packets of dust got her part way home. Saain dirty and tired had sought shelter with the nearest hold, and stayed a seven day. She didn't want to rely on their kindness and dust had got her so far... she started making it. Just enough to get her home. That was what had got her caught. Not any of the dealings with Fahd but stupidly making dust to get home.

The Dragon Watch waited. The allowed her to have her son and a few more months perhaps out as pity as they searched to find her parents and for her parents to obtain a wet-nurse. She named him Sunny and left. She would return... and hopefully be better then when she left.

Personality: Wistful, Saain is lost in thought. She keeps ruminating over the lost years, past relationships, her son being raised by an aunt and their only communication through carefully penned letters. Prison has given her a chance to ruminate over every bad choice she has made and to make fleeting promises that when she has a parole meeting, if granted her freedom, to make things better. For her, for her three year old son and for Oliver and his brother if they are still alive.

Gentle and forgiving, Saain has reached a point where she can simply give forgiveness. It might not mean much but she has sort of settled into being an unofficial therapist among the fellow gen pop prisoners. Saain has refused to work as a healer, instead she is focusing on teaching her fellow prisoners the basics of reading and writing, mathematics, and the importance of hygiene. She wants to help them get their lives back on track.

Lost, Saain has lost most of her fire that she once had. She use to be confident and sure of herself. She had been unwavering in her belief, sharp tempered when dealing with people she has thought to be crack skulls, and so sure that this relationship would be the one. That she could change them for the better. Now, she has settled into a quiet, accepting phrase.

Physical Description: Saain is a gorgeous woman. Her hair is long, falling in a wave of abundant curls to mid back and is a lovely shade of auburn. Saain tends to keep her hair tied back in purple ribbons. Her eyes are a mid shade of blue, open and some what saddened. Her eyebrows fine and feathery and short. She has an oval shape face, and pale skin. She is tall, about 5'8'' in height and curvy.

Other:

Dragon

Name: Serinuth
Age: 9
Color: Green
Physical Description: Serinuth was positioned somewhat awkwardly in her egg (possibly accounting for the claustrophobia) and will hatch with an odd hopping gait and crumpled wings. These will naturally mend in time, provided she is given adequate exercise and room to stretch. Still, while she is actually a bit on the larger end for a green, her wings are fairly short and small for her size. These don't impede her in flight - on the contrary, she is excellent at tight maneuvers and has the agility of a much smaller green, but she will need to flap her wings much more frequently, making gliding difficult and stamina a problem. She is much more suited to quick, fluttering, darting flights than to the long haul.

Serinuth will start off a dark olive green with markings of yellowy lime green on her stomach, but as she grows that patch of lime will spread until it is her dominant color. In time, she will switch nearly entirely: going from olive green marked with lime to lime marked with olive.

Personality: To say that Serinuth has self-esteem issues would be approximately on par with saying that Warden M'onk has issues with power tripping. It would appear that neurosis is more or less the canary's default state of being. She'll be practically apologizing for herself straight out of the shell - oh dear, she knows that her sire was a blue and her egg was curiously golden but not particularly metallic, and she hopes you weren't expecting something bigger or shinier than her, oh no...

It is probable that these issues will plague her right through weyrling training. Even when she's technically old enough and big enough to fly, she'll be nervous that she'll mess up. The first time she chews firestone, she'll need to triple- and quadruple-check that no one is in her way, because what if she accidentally flamed them? Everything about her is anxious and fluttery and full of nervous energy, even the way she hops uneasily from forefoot to forefoot when she's trying to make a decision. And... oh Faranth, don't try to get her into any enclosed spaces. She likes the wallows at Warden's because they're under an open sky, but Serinuth is severely claustrophobic and liable to panic in any area that's too small for her to stretch her wings in.

What balances this fear, however, is her kindness and sincerity. Serinuth is nothing if not eager to please - especially towards her rider, but towards others as well. There isn't a cruel or petty bone in Serinuth's body. She's a bit wary of humans other than her rider - she's very much a one-woman dragon, and Serinuth doesn't much like being handled, especially by people other than Saain - but she will warm up readily to anyone who treats her with gentleness and respect. It is highly unlikely that she'll be an effective guard, but if Saain can get her to settle a little as she matures, she could make an excellent healer's dragon.

The one time when Serinuth is really quite forward is during Flights. She will be very specific and quite firm with her demands: she will only be caught by a male who serenades her. Serinuth has a sweet, warbling, beautiful voice which she will show off whenever she is asked. And when it comes time for her to Fly, she expects to hear some bugles and croons in response, gentlemen!

Why me? Saain is a lost soul in many ways: she's lost her son, her freedom, and her purpose. Serinuth will give her something to focus on outside of the past, a fragile young creature who needs her care and her love. And Saain's gentleness and forgiving spirit will help Serinuth overcome some of her insecurities and be more comfortable with herself. They are kindred spirits in some ways, although Saain will always be the calmer of the pair. But Serinuth might just help Saain find her freedom.
