Welcome to Warrenville.
...Though welcome probably isn't the word.

The city is crumbling while its inhabitants scramble for what little resources can be found. Order is maintained by the thinnest of threads as the Owsla Police Force do what they can to keep chaos from taking over. Food and water are rationed commodities, often worth fighting for... and in some cases killing for. Gangs have formed, extorting those they can to feed their growing numbers and declaring open war with those that get in their way. The religious pray, the righteous fight to clean up the streets, and the resourceful try to make their once beautiful home a better place.

Where did it all go wrong?
No one is quite sure, just that one day a single bomb wiped out a whole country with no warning. The blame that was tossed around quickly escalated to aggressive words, then gunfire, and then all-out war. Technically it hasn't even been declared as over, but with so few societies left that hardly seems to matter. Radios broadcast nothing but static, and the remaining working TVs show nothing but snowy nothingness, there's no news to report; everything has fallen apart. World War Final. And now those that have survived are trying to pick up the pieces.

But that was so long ago.
Decades have passed since the war, only the oldest can remember what it was like before. When food was cheap, water clean, and safety a right instead of a dream. They tell their stories and keep hope alive in any way they can.

And hope is exactly what this place needs.
You can find it, if you look hard enough. It's in the farmers that are learning to rework the soil, the mothers that teach their children to use their heads and hands to build rather than destroy, and the gentle soul that gives more than he takes.

The only question now is where do you fit in?

Some Basic Info

Warrenville is a small city situated with a river to it's east, large and turbulent enough that crossing it is a challenge most wouldn't relish. The river offers power in the form of watermills which offers lighting for the important buildings in the city since most generators are scrap at this point. Those with the inclination towards inventing often gather at the watermills to brainstorm on hew ways to provide power for the city. Some have even retooled what remains of the cars to run on other fuel sources since oil is as rare as gold. Lining the river are several homes, though most are nothing more than a lean-to. The horribly poor or orphaned often end up here, as well as the fishermen. Those that fish have earned some respect in the community as being a provider of a valuable resource, and often are offered protection from the Owsla, though it isn't always enough. Some have turned to capturing and breeding fish in small pools and that has become a more profitable affair... though that has seen it's own risks.

More on the inventors and the fishers can be found in their own threads.
-----------------------------
Farmland is scarce, and the city itself has sanctioned raids on neighboring towns for food and resources to survive. This shock troop, known only as The Blitz, works independently from the Owsla Force, and there is some animosity between the two factions. Though both are deemed necessary for survival, the Owsla tend to look at The Blitz as barbaric and as a safe-haven for criminals and thugs; whereas The Blitz view the Owsla as naive idealists that have no true understanding of what it means to survive.

More on The Blitz and the Owsla can be found in their respective threads.
-----------------------------
There's also the gangs that roam about the city. Some stronger than others, some species-specific, and others ambivalent as long as you have the gall to steal and kill. This is often the sad fate of orphans whose parents were killed for what little they owned. Gangs often offer shelter so that they can claim the rationed goods belonging to the orphan, and without any means of taking care of themselves, the kids have little choice but to join the gang outright once they prove themselves of worth.

More on the gangs and their specific roosts can be found in this thread and their individual ones.
-----------------------------
The 'Orphanage' is another option for the youths that find themselves on the streets for one reason or another. Though more of a network of people rather than an actual place, a woman by the name of Miss Ivy acts as the figurehead of the organization; she along with the help of her mate Thyme help foster and raise those that seek them for shelter. They have become the targets of both positive and negative attention, just as likely to find a gift of extra provision on their doorstep as they are a blood-splattered 'warning'. Though a lot of the hate comes from Ivy's willingness to take in an orphan of any class, creed, and species; despite the lingering animosities. Many seek out to rid the city of it's 'other' residents, seeing them as nothing more than leeches or ill-bred survivors of the 'enemy' from the Old War.

More on the 'Orphanage' and Species Hostility can be found in either their threads or further in the info section; here.
-----------------------------
The hostilities are probably most felt at the churches, oddly enough. Here resentment and finger-pointing is alive and well, despite the message of hope so many preach. The House of Our Lord Frith serves exclusively to Lapines, and welcomes no other, as an example. Friar Nightingale is a strong believer that the Vulpes, Felines, Aquatics and others 'invading' the city are a drain on resources and often demonizes them in his sermons. This has earned him many enemies, and rightfully so, despite what good work he might do amongst his own people.

For more on the Houses of Faith, look for the listing of them here.
For more on the Species of this setting, please see this post in the Basic Info.
-----------------------------
Set in more neutral territory, perhaps because it's mostly rubble and not very useful, sits what's left of the hospital. Most physicians work out of their homes now-a-days, especially with there being a horrible shortage on any medical supplies, so the hospital lies mostly abandoned. Or... at least that's what everyone seems to believe...

For more on the Hospital, please see the thread here.
-----------------------------
There's also those that own what little farmland surrounded the city there is to be had, most of their produce is taken by the city officials in payment for having the land to work in the first place. Though most of the Owsla turn a blind eye if the farmers' stores and larders look a little bigger than they should. Nearly every farm is protected under surveillance by the Owsla as well, food being the most valuable resource in these difficult times.

For farmland info, or farms themselves, please see this thread.
-----------------------------
And finally, the Mayor himself.
Rumor has it the man himself is actually dead, since no one can recall seeing him, though there is apparently 'someone' that the Chief of the Owsla, Head of The Blitz and other notables report to. Perhaps he keeps himself tucked away in order to avoid assassination, or perhaps he lives out his days spoiled rotten by the surplus of food the other inhabitants could only dare to dream about.
