Much has happened in recent years in Dalmaest. The Great Creation Sri Lok has settled in his temple in Lake Bakash, the Mother Tree has ceased to speak to living creatures, great wars have ravaged the land, power has passed between many rulers in less than one Queen's lifetime, and powerful, ancient beings have begun to walk the land where mere mortals once tread freely. But perhaps most frightening is the occupation of the Great Goddess of Evil's temple. The Dark-White Goddess Akira now waits in her place of worship, trapped by members of the once denounced Beast God Pantheon.
Two thousand years after her sealing, a series of large wormholes opened in a delayed burst of power from the battle, and from them fell beings from different worlds, all snatched up by the Goddess's last attempts to save herslef. These beings were thrown into the land of Dalmaest without warning, and those that survived both the initial impact and the native's suspicions are now left to wander aimlessly in confusion with no clear way back.

"Okay, we'll try this again. Just focus very hard on the energies around you, Shadowedstar. Feel the pressure pushing against you. With the three of us here you should definitely be able to feel something." Vithmon said with a small sigh in his patient voice. I blushed and realized that I was boring each of the men surrounding me. Both Vithmon and Victor had vacant glazes in their eyes, and Val wasn't even trying to hide his lack of interest; he was sprawled out on the ground half-asleep, clearing dozing as he looked up at the sky. Irritated by my obvious failure, I threw my hands up and snarled.
"I'm never going to get this. I just can't do this kind of stuff unless Zeikel is helping me. You three have been doing this since you were children; I’ve never even known it was possible to sense other’s power.” I moped and kicked a lump of dirt, making Vithmon shake his head. Victor sighed heavily and walked over to me from where he had been sitting, then took my face in his hands and made me look into his gray eyes.
“Was-ka, you can do this. It’s the same thing that you do to call Zeikel. You’ve done it many times before. You must learn how to do this at times other than when you are about to be violently-” Victor’s soft words cut off abruptly as he snapped upright and directed his attention to a place deep in the forest. Vithmon did the same a moment after, and I glanced at Val to see him looking at his brothers curiously.
“What are you two-” Val’s question was ended by a massive power surge that shook the forest and sent leaves flying everywhere. I leaned close to Victor as I felt the blast crash into me, but then it was over. Immediately on full alert, Victor snapped a few orders to Vithmon and Val in Damectian and they warped away with rapid nods, leaving me and my husband alone at the edge of the forest.
“Stick close, Was-ka. That surge left…something.” Victor told me quietly, and I stayed on his heels as he began to walk in the direction the strange energy had come from. We walked in complete silence for a while, both noting that the trees had gone quiet and that the animals were all in hiding. What had that blast been? An attack? Was Vladimir already coming for us? Already fearing the worst, I actually flinched when the tree line ended and I noticed a figure lying on a small spirit knoll, seemingly unconscious. Nothing moved as Victor stopped in his tracks and looked at the figure with his eyes narrowed. After a moment, he appeared confused.
“It’s a human.” He said, surprise clear in his tone. Tilting his head thoughtfully, he approached the knoll and crouched near the figure, who appeared to be a young man with blonde hair and modern mortal clothes. How had he gotten here? “He’s human…but something is off about him. I can’t tell what it…hm.” Victor muttered to himself for a moment, then roughly moved the poor boy away from the knoll and left him in a heap on the forest floor.
“Well I can’t leave him on the spirits, can I? They’d do worse than shove him; you know that. Now wait and watch him; I think I can feel another one somewhere nearby…ah, poor sucker is up high. He landed in a tree.” Victor chuckled at my scandalized glare, and trotted off into the trees to locate the other person. I shook my head at his retreating form and edged close to the unconscious blonde. He looked normal enough to me…
“Hello? Are you alright? Can you hear me?” I asked hesitantly, hoping that he was okay. Naturally he didn’t answer, and remained knocked out. I shifted him into a more comfortable position and sat beside him to wait for Victor.
A minute or two later he appeared from the trees with another young man, this time with purple hair, slung over his shoulder unceremoniously. He shrugged at my hopeful look and moved close to pick up the blonde.
“This one was out cold too. We’ll have to take them back with us and wait for them to wake up.” Victor said, and I blinked at his quick decision to be kind to a pair of random humans. Since when did he care about them? He saw my baffled expression and grinned.
“You would have chewed me out for not helping and you know it. I’m saving us a step this time. Don’t get used to it.” He told me, and began to head in the direction of the castle. I decided against making a snide remark and instead trailed quietly along, peering curiously at the young men we had found.
As soon as we arrived at the castle, Victor called in two of his werewolves and had them take the boys to the special floor of the hospital wing, making it very clear that they were to be under guard no matter how harmless they seemed once they woke up. The werewolves said they would fetch Havoc and Cedric for the task, and then they were off with their cargo, leaving me to wonder if the two would be alright. Waking to Havoc and Cedric after having something strange happen seemed like it would be…difficult.
“You can go after them if you want, Was-ka. Those two won’t let any harm come to you.” Victor said after a slight pause. He seemed to dislike the idea, but he trusted his familiars. Smiling, I gave him a quick kiss of gratitude and hurried toward the hospital wing, humming a song to myself as I ran.

“Eh, I’ll admit they smell a little weird, but they’re humans. They probably just got transported over from the mortal realm or something by a demon with a nasty sense of humor. Happens all the time.” Cedric said casually. I frowned at how certain he sounded, but felt like it was something else. Normal demons in the mortal realm didn’t have the level of power that had shook through the forest…
“We can just ask them when they wake up. You two are being way too serious about-” Havoc’s words cut off as one of the boys we had been discussing started shouting. Cedric immediately shifted into his Halfling form and went on alert, and I saw Havoc’s eyes lose their nonchalant gleam and become more focused. Well, there went the playful atmosphere.
“…let me speak to them first, okay you two? They did just wake up.” I asked, and they both nodded. Shaking my head, I let them follow me and opened the curtains around the two strangers, making my smile as cheerful and friendly as possible to make up for the two men behind me.
“Hello. My name is Shadowedstar, and this is Havoc and Cedric. How are you feeling? You didn’t have any injuries other than a few bumps from your landings, but you’ve been out for a little while. Is there any dizziness or nausea? You’re in the hospital wing of Benevolt castle, do you know where that is?” I asked brightly, glad that I was there. As kind as they normally were, Havoc and Cedric would have immediately leapt into asking questions about the two humans, despite the obvious confusion on their faces.
~~~~~~
“Hadrian, what in the world was that?” I asked my husband after a shockwave of energy nearly knocked me off my feet. He shook his head and looked around again, his gray eyes sharp.
“…I’m not sure. But it happened all over the place. It left a bunch of life forms behind…hmm. Most of them are blinking out so I don’t think many are surviving…shall we investigate, my dear? It doesn’t feel like something Vladimir is involved in.” Hadrian asked, taking my arm. I smiled and nodded amiably, and we started off toward the rocky mountainside where Hadrian had sensed the first blast.
We had only walked a short while when a dark shape rolled out from behind a rock at the top of a short cliff in front of us and groaned loudly. It looked to be a brunette woman, with large wings and horns. She stared at us dimly for a moment, and then passed out with another groan. Startled, Hadrian and I rushed to her and made sure she was okay. She had a few scratches and bruises, but was otherwise unharmed.
Hadrian stood up suddenly and walked around the rock the woman had been behind, sighing as he shoved it aside to reveal a long tunnel. I peered into it curiously and looked at Hadrian.
“There’s someone else inside. I think she was trying to get them out but was too weak. I’ll be right back.” He told me, and faded into the dark cavern. I waited patiently, and not a minute later he reappeared with his arm holding up another winged person, this one a boy with dark orange and red hair. He was conscious, but barely, his black eyes glazed and unfocused. He squinted in the sunlight and growled quietly, glancing around blindly.
“Where’s Nova?” he rasped, making Hadrian look at me nervously before leading the boy to the woman.
“Is that her?” he asked hopefully, and the boy nodded with a smile and slumped against Hadrian’s side, unconscious. Hadrian shrugged at me and shifted the poor boy onto his back, taking the woman in his arms and squinting off toward the castle.
“Victor won’t be happy when we bring these two into his floor of the hospital, will he?” I asked with a sigh, already knowing the answer. Hadrian shook his head solemnly and smiled at me.
“No, but these two will be. Come on, lets go get them checked out.” He said, and we started off toward Benevolt castle. People appearing in bursts of energy…what was going on? Hopefully there wouldn’t be too much panic caused by all the new arrivals.
When he started yelling at me, I flattened my ears and stared at the purple-haired boy in alarm. I’d only been trying to be nice. The other boy seemed to calm him, however, and he settled down a bit. His reaction to Cedric, however, made me feel a bit bad for the Halfling. Of course Cedric didn’t care what was said to him, since he personally found his Halfling form far superior to a human, but the bluntness was still a bit of a sting.
“I’m a Halfling, boy. Your kind calls me a werewolf most of the time, though. Pleased to meet ya.” Cedric said with just a touch of sarcasm. Havoc snorted in amusement and cleared his throat quietly, letting his jewelry jangle and make noise over his words.
“We ought to be asking who HE is, actually. Spunky kid. Victor's gonna love him.” The gypsy muttered under his breath, and I heard Cedric grunt in agreement. I rolled my eyes and smiled as the blonde spoke to his friend. I frowned at his confusion and wondered exactly how to answer his question. Europe?
“Nah, boy. That’s in the mortal realm. No Europe here. Just Dalmaest.” Cedric said over my shoulder, saving me the trouble of remembering places in the mortal realm.
“Although yeah, I suppose you could say this is an equivalent to Europe… sort of. It’s more between Europe and Asia, really…” Havoc piped in. I pursed my lips as I remembered that the two of them had grown up in the mortal realm, and decided to shift the conversation to more important matters.
“Where are you two from? Do you know how you got here? You appeared in the middle of a forest in a huge wave of energy, and you’ll have to forgive us for being a bit…concerned as to how you are here.” I asked curiously.
Havoc jangled his clothing more to muffle a quick burst of laughter, and I glanced back to see him giving Cedric a pointed look, to which the Halfling sighed heavily and scratched the back of his neck thoughtfully.
“Erm…well, you’re certainly not anywhere near the United States, that much you can probably understand. I suppose the best way to put it would be that you’re in a different plane of the universe now. This is a world of demons and Gods, boys. You’ll have a hard time of it finding others to relate to here. We can’t say exactly what got you here, though, unfortunately…” Cedric said in a semi-soothing tone, his eyes watching the two boys for a possible dangerous reaction. I couldn’t really reprimand his expectations, honestly. He was right to worry that they’d take poorly to being told they were basically in a different universe…
“Once we understand what happened exactly we can figure out how to get you back if you wish, but for now I suggest you stay with us where it is safer. This place is much more…dangerous than the mortal realm.” I warned after letting their situation sink in a little bit. Even with something weird about them, they were still humans. Dalmaest could be a very dangerous place for humans. Hells, it was dangerous for Gods.
“May we ask your names? On top of that I have to strongly advise the both of you to allow one of our people to interview you quickly to make sure you don’t pose a threat to us. It’s nothing personal, I assure you. It would ensure our support and protection of you.” Havoc piped up suddenly, making me flush. Well wasn’t he just cutting right to the point? He was going to scare them away…and probably right into a hungry demons’ claws, too. I turned to scowl at him and received a crooked grin. “Ah, they’d probably be fine, Shadowedstar. Victor sensed power of some sort in them. If they leave I’m sure they can handle themselves.” He said quietly, then without letting his jewelry make anymore noise he walked across the room and sat in a chair, leaving the rest of the matter to Cedric and I.
Cedric snorted at Jackson, er, Fyre's rather blunt response, and narrowed his eyes slightly. I sighed as I realized that the Halfling would be significantly less helpful for a while until he got over the insult.
"Okay then. Dustin, Fyre. I promise it won't take long at all. Havoc, could you go get one of the readers?" I asked over my shoulder. Havoc shurgged and got to his feet, stepping over to Cedric to have a word with the Halfling before leaving. We all froze when Fyre spoke Damectian, and I glanced at my friends out of the corner of my eye to see their reactions.
Havoc and Cedric blinked obviously at the pair of humans, then glanced at each other with mildly curious expressions. Havoc muttered something to Cedric, and after a few exchanges the Halfling smacked Havoc's arm and flipped him off as the Sphinx retreated with a mocking laugh. Havoc saluted me playfully and left the room to fetch the reader, and I looked back at the humans with a puzzled expression. These two were just chock-full of surprises, weren't they?
"Well, assuming that you'll both clear the interview, I hope you two are able to enjoy your time here until we can figure out what's happened. It seems that you weren't the only ones that appeared here without warning, so I'm sure this will all be figured out in a few days." I said casually, not sure how to entertain them. They seemed alright just by themselves, but it would be awkward to just sit there watching them...
~~~~~
"Oh, now, Maria. Is that what those mean? Is it really? Interesting. Because I could have sworn it just meant 'hey, Sri Lok; help us out please'. But I must be mistaken. I only made the languages." I said playfully, leaning over Maria's shoulder to view the symbols she had carved to call me.
"But I'm sure that you didn't ask for me just to discuss ancients scripts. What can I do for you, sweetie?" I asked as the two women spun around and noticed me. I smiled pleasantly and inclined my head to the woman I didn't know, assuming she was a friend of Maria. Curious, I nosed around in the knowledge of the world I was in and found her name. Kandi. That was a good name. She seemed a good enough person from what I saw.
