I agree, I HATE FILLERS *BOMBS THE FILLER PEEPS* But I usually just skip the fillers in long episodes. It's really easy, after watching anime for so long I can tell when the long battle scenes start to end (they're predictable anyway), I just stop at certain parts and see what goes, "Oh so he uses his ultimate move on him like that, okay, okay, oh and the bag guy throws s**t at him like that, okay, okay," then I skip ahead again.
But I luuuuv long episodes because I eventually fall in love with the main characters, like Naruto for example (...I admit though, I gave up on that show. XP) Okay that's a bad example! Oh! One Piece (I'm on episode 500!) That show is STILL on, but I love Luffy and the gang and I can't stop watching until I see him become the Pirate King damn it! scream And he better! Or else I'll write an ANGRY LETTER!
@ Funfire C42: lol I never watch a show in English ... they sound weird. Zatch Bell in English subs is better anyway (and complete). And, for some weird reason Japanese people love showing little boy's peepees. No, seriously they do it in Zatch Bell, Shin Chan, etc. It has to be part of their sense of humor because it is hilarious! xD

I think it depends on the story. If the story is good and wraps up nicely in the end, I think it's better that it was short, otherwise, it will become full of cliches if it goes on for too long. However, I do tend to feel sad after finishing short series, because I feel like more could've been done with it, but on the other hand, long series have complex storylines that keep you engaged for a long time, if done right, and makes you want to keep watching more, until you get bored with it, that is.
So in other words, if its a good story done in a short amount of time, then its fine the way it is. But if it feels unfinished, then it should be longer. Long series allow the story to develop further and introduces new elements, but eventually, the story gets so repetitive that you feel like it should've ended long ago (aka Bleach, Naruto, One Peice rolleyes ).
