Ok, so my season techincally hasn't started yet, but my first race is always my town's 5k....which every year i never fail to do really bad (25:52 stressed ) which is something since my PR is 20:50. But it is a starting point, and i still have 4 weeks to drop 4 minutes

that is a very good question and i guess the answer would have been: sporadic. 2 weeks before i got braces which seriously hindered my ability to eat which stopped me from running a lot.
Today was my first day of actually team practice (of course a freakishly hot humid day) and everyone is feeling it. Next race in 19 days. it will be interesting. It also doesn't help that the people i used to run with all quit, so i am currently searching for new people in my speed range.
