I was supposed to be studying, but eh. Math is more fun.
And the questions I think I got wrong were the ones I studied for anyway.

And Otakon is in friggin July D:<

don't you have other things to do than confuse people with math? x:

As much as I hate math, I have to say that what Kyou said made a lot of sense. It wasn't confusing at all.
YesAsia: Good, if you aren't buying manga in huge amounts or have very particular tastes.
Amazon: Bad for buying in small amounts, good for larger ones and also has a bigger variety. (+Magazines)

On another note: I remember asking my mom if she could take me allll the way to Baltimore so I could go to Otakon. She said: "Taco con? What?" Me: "Oh nevermind"

I did a calculation (tax excluded) with Bleach as cart stuffing 8D 859 yen per book, or 805 ($8.77 and $8.21 at the current rate) if I split the shipping xP So yah. This is 25 books, and Bleach is 420 yen each (minus tax), which makes the average a little lower.
Edit: I tend to get a little calculator-happy sometimes xD;
Anyway, I hope that all that math was useful. Waiting for enough books to come out to order on amazon is a big pain though ;_; When you're just starting out, I guess it's easy since there's a ton of stuff you can get, but when you're at a point where you're waiting for new volumes of series to come out it's a pain, particularly when they come out twice a year ><
...and this is why I'm starting Bleach ._.;

Ah, well at least you know for sure Amazon will get them when they get released.
I've noticed that YesAsia is a little slow on that sometimes. (Like when I tried to get a hold of Lagoon Engine volume 7. It was a whole month after it's official release date before they finally put it up.)

Hmm...I'm thinking of saving my money up and doing some shopping on Amazon.
...Or on second thought, maybe I should hold off on that and finish up what I've got in English. XD

Yaaah. Definitely finish what you can of your English series, then you won't have to split your budget between buying English books and saving up for your next order of Japanese books.

Yeah, I think getting the Japanese ones(Besides some special ones I want) will have to wait until I get an actual income.

Teeny tiny update:

I got the April issue of Yen plus yesterday. It came with a little Soul Eater poster too~ I wish they had more little goodies in that magazine. (Like Shonen Jump has with it's Trading Cards from various TCG cames)

American magazines need more goodies in general. Japanese ones occasionally come with calendars, big (B2-ish) posters, figurines (!), minibooks, t-shirts (!), DVDs with things other than shitty trailers on them, etc... And they usually don't cost any extra for those things (or if they do, only a tiny bit). Japan has the technology and readership to make that possible, I guess in the US, printing/distributing technology just isn't cheap enough to make that sort of thing affordable given the readership.
Printing in general in this country has ridiculous costs compared to Japan.

I agree. But even if it was just something simple as a bigger poster, I'd be happy.
NewType USA used to keep me happy with their posters and free DVDs (that had actual full EPISODES of anime on them), buuut since that magazine got the axe, there really aren't that many cool magazines anymore. emo

But at least the American magazines have good quality paper. The paper, binding and ink quality is just barely decent in my Asuka magazines. The pages are already yellow in some of them and I even have pages falling out of one. America is just quality over quantity I guess. XD

Japanese magazines that are considered collectable rather than disposable, such as the hobby and anime magazines, are usually printed on decent paper, even their black&white sections xP
Manga magazines are considered disposable and are meant to be recycled after a while, so they're printed on one of the cheapest available papers.

Quality over quantity is a bad idea for manga magazines I think xP If they want to push quality, then they shouldn't be targeting young kids (the shounen/shoujo demographic) but instead focus on the older readers (seinen/josei). Even in Japan, those magazines are usually of much higher quality (though still not archival-quality or anything like that).

They should really try that here. I think they'd get so much more readers if they took the price down a couple dollars per magazine and made them more disposable. That way, they could be more accessible to a younger audience that doesn't always have a lot of money to spend every month.
2.99 for a (US)Shonen Jump? Even I'd buy that.

The idea of a disposable magazine is probably rather strange here though... it would have to be advertised in some way that compares it more to a newspaper. They might even have to create a reward system for recycling the magazines.

Hmm...they could try a whole "Go Green! Recycle this Magazine!" approach. They don't really have to make a reward system for it. But if they wanted to they could make it like where you mail in some kind of proof(like a post card or something they stick in the magazine) and earn points towards prizes.

(I keep ignoring my own thread. 'Tis saddening.)

I suppose a "green" approach might work. And with mailing stuff... I don't think that'll work to encourage people to recycle, but it would be a good idea in general. They should do something similar to how Japan does it. They have feedback questionaires that are used to determine whether a particular series should be endorsed or cancelled. These cards come in the magazines a few times a year I think (I haven't kept up with a single magazine enough to know, but I do know that they don't come with every issue, even for monthly magazines).

Ah, I think I've seen those in most of my Asukas. Are those the little cards that they stick in there near the end?
