Fredrich stared at his phone, considering it. It's true that something like this would alarm a parent, and there was a good chance Ethan would be sent back to Texas... Finally deciding on only calling Markus, Fredrich pressed dial and pressed the phone to his ear. After a few minutes of brief words, he put his phone back then looked back at Lock, noticing his exhaustion. "Let's get you home so you can rest." he said and ushered for the blonde to move.

Without proof, you'll never catch me.

Lock nodded and started walking, rubbing a hand over his patchy, unshaven face. This was why he was always cleanshaven, he thought absently as he walked, although he quickly turned to Ellery with panic in his eyes. "Don't tell my brother! He'll freak out!" he begged. "He already thinks I get into far too much trouble as it is. if he finds out that Ethan got hurt around me, he'll drag me back to Korea without letting me say goodbye!"
Ellery nodded, pushing Lock's shoulder gently. "Fredrich and I will take you home, Lock. We won't tell your brother, I promise."
That seemed to calm the blonde down a little, although he still seemed on edge a bit.

Nikolai did everything he could do to distract himself in the waiting room. He paced around, he gazed at trash TV, he skimmed through magazines, everything. Nothing helped. What happened? Why did Leon suddenly get so sick? Was this normal? Was there some new bug spreading? Neutralisas weren't prone to illnesses, were they? Nikolai looked around. Should he have gone to Decius instead? He was so startled by everything that he could only think to go to an average hospital. Perhaps that wasn't bad, though. In a city like this he was sure some of the doctors weren't human themselves. Could they help?

It seemed like hours, but finally a doctor came out to speak with Nikolai. He was tall, imposing, and kept a grim expression with every bout of news that he delivered. However, this time, his face showed more sympathy than anything, as if he were helpless to do anything than sign a death certificate. "Mr. Byko?" he called, walking to Nikolai and looking down to the clipboard in his hands. "I'm afraid I have bad news. We examined your husband very closely and, upon x-rays and several bouts of blood analysis, we have discovered that there is currently a cancerous, malignant tumor in Mr. Court's lungs. It has already begun to spread to his lymphnodes, and upon further examination, we also discovered that he has a far too low a white blood cell count and believe that he may have metastatic lung cancer and leukemia." He grew silent, then looked back up to Nikolai. "I'm afraid, outside of aggressive treatment, there's nothing we can do."

Nikolai turned when the doctor came out, hopefully expecting him to tell him that it was some common cold he overexaggerated. But it wasn't. It wasn't a cold at all. Nikolai felt his hopeful smile twitch downwards as the news punched itself further into his gut with each slow passing second. Cancer? T-Two different kinds?
"This has to be some kind of joke." he said breathlessly, his smile of denial taking place on his pale face. "He... I-It can't just happen overnight! How could he get cancer overnight?!" He was terrified and disgusted, confused and enraged. Nothing made sense. It was like a nightmare.

"Based on the way that it's advanced, it had to be cooking for quite some time," he explained. "Many people experience aches and pains that they attribute to age or simply sleeping wrong, but sometimes, it can be indicative of a deeper issue. But looking at him, Mr. Byko, I can wonder why you didn't bring him in sooner. I believe he has no more than a month or so to live." He sighed, then shook his head. "Does he have any other next of kin? A child or a sibling, perhaps? I find that patients are often much more relaxed near the end when they're surrounded by family."

Without even thinking Nikolai had slapped the doctor with as much force as he could muster. "How dare you." he snarled. "You think I let him lounge around as his death got closer? Don't you dare hang this on my head, you dull-nerved imbecile!" he seethed until everything settled on his mind. His arm fell to his side limply, taking a couple steps back. He looked down. Death. Why? Why now? Why Leon? This had to be some kind of lie, there had to be something he could do. Stubborn determination flared in Nikolai's lime green eyes. He'd go to the Council. They'd stop this whether they wanted to or not! Without talking or even looking at the doctor, he turned and strode out of the hospital before security could get ahold of him. If they followed him they'd see that he had vanished as soon as he passed through the entrance doors, only wisps of purple smoke in his wake.

Meanwhile, Leon lay in bed, a number of wires hooked up to his body and more than enough liquids being pumped into him. He breathed shallowly, but still opened his eyes to look at the doctor who came in. Spying the handprint, he chuckled hoarsely. "Don't take it to heart, Doc," he assured the man. "My beautiful Nikolai... His heart is breaking, you see. Be grateful he didn't try to kill you." He chuckled again, then coughed before setting his head back down and trying to sleep.

It had been two hours since Nikolai came back from the Council. He stood at Leon's bedside with a grim look on his face, one hand holding onto Aysun's. What a pitiful sight Leon was, so weak already and with all sorts of drugs being pumped into him, all to no avail. This had to be some joke. The Council was terrified of him now that they saw what he could do, they wouldn't dare challenge his wrath, would they? Even then, why would they do it at the expense of their Head Neutralisa? No, this wouldn't last. It would... It would disappear in an instant!
"Uncle Leon?" Aysun mumbled after a while, poking his uncle's side. He didn't fully understand what was happening. He woke up to Ezekiel being around then was picked up by Uncle Nikki, told that Uncle Leon was very sick and that they needed to comfort him. "Are you gonna be better? Do you want some soup?"

The scarcely breathing man shook his head, reaching out to take the child's free hand. "No, baby. I-I don't... think I'm gonna get better," he told the little boy, weakly holding the hand. "I want you to listen, Aysun. Y-you need to take care of Uncle Nikki here. He's... He's strong and tough, but he'll still need you to remind him... of me." His eyes looked to Nikolai, the once proud man now shrunken into his bed and visibly shaking from the cold, despite the warmth of the room. He'd never felt more tired.
Leon wasn't new to dying. He knew he was close.

"Don't say that." Nikolai said fiercely. He was angry, but that was more to keep him from crying. Cruel joke or no, seeing Leon like this was always a nightmare come true. "You'll get through this, so don't you dare give up."
Aysun whimpered as his hand was gripped weakly. He didn't like this. Yesterday Uncle Leon picked him up and tossed him around so that he could fly, and now his hand was all weak and shaking. And it was cold. So cold.

"Believe m-me, I'm not trying to give up," he replied, reaching to touch Nikolai. "I want to live, Nikolai. I want to be with you and Aysun forever. But I'm so tired, Nikolai. I'm always fighting. It seems like there's always something that wants to drive us apart." His hand that reached for Nikolai fell to the mattress, the force exerted winding the man. He wasn't even thirty yet. How could this be happening?

Nikolai's free hand took Leon's before it could hit the mattress. This joke was over. Why wasn't it stopping? He'd go back to the Council! He'd stop making deals with people! He'd do anything to stop seeing his lover like this!
"You promised," he whispered, feeling a wave of deja vu hit him. "You vowed on our wedding day that you'd stay with me no matter what Fate did!"

He dropped his chin, as if he were trying to nod, but didn't quite have the strength to lift his head back up. "I'm trying," was all eh said, his voice softer than before. It wasn't long now. He already couldn't feel his lower half, getting colder and colder by the second.

Nikolai's expression softened considerably. "Does it hurt?" he asked as he gently set his hand on Leon's chest, feeling it move faintly. Purple fog coiled around his fingers, hesitant to touch its owner's lover. He couldn't heal, he couldn't even find anyone to help him. If the Council couldn't help then no one he knew could. If that was the case... then could he at least ease the pain? He felt tears push against the wall he built up. Leon wasn't going to live, was he? The Council wouldn't take this away instantly, all they'd do is watch from their comfy chairs.
