David tossed his half cigarette aside as he stepped inside the giant doorway to the crypt. He was almost surprised to see Rodger hanging out against the wall in a corner in the foyer of the crypt. At first David assumed that Rodger had seen and heard everything that had just conspired, and felt compelled to deny and defend himself. Then he nodded his head a bit as he changed his behavior and demeanor. So what if David loved somebody he could never have? It didn’t mean he was any less of a not-leader to the vampires. What was the last sacrifice that Rodger did for them? When was the last time that Rodger sought out and dug up an ancient? Rodger was just going to have to deal.

“Rodger.” He said as he nodded his head in a modern manly way of greeting. It would take a lot of balls to confront a leader of any species about a mistake they had made, and he knew Rodger would want answers. He wasn’t going to get them, not completely anyways. He couldn’t keep everything from his second. Just like his second couldn’t keep everything from him…

"Obnoxious? Doesn't matter. Our job to obey. We'll head out and get the girl." Anubis said, nodding. The scent was etched into her mind, and she was prepared. She took Nathans hand gently. "Lets go." She murmured, redy to leave. Nathans hand still felt rough and abnormal in hers, but it did send something of a rush through her body. Anubis instictively clenched Nathan's hand a bit more. Her eyes flickered between to two me.
"May we leave, Pack Leader?" Anubis asked, waiting at the door. Her free hand clenched the door, she was ready to leave. It was time to track, one of her favorite things in the world.

Rodger saw David came through the large doors, it sucks having to obey something like that. A vampire loving something he can't really have, ever. It just wouldn't work. "David," he said back as he followed somewhat behind the man. Yes he wanted answers and now, but he couldn't really ask. Getting the courage to ask a question, "What was that all about?" He asked, his voice normal and mellow. Maybe he had balls to just ask that one question. Just hopefully David wouldn't get pissed. "The girl refused to help or sumethin'?" He added onto the question, acting like he didn't hear s**t.

Then again, David was smarter then that... Rodger had his own little secrets maybe he should let David keep his own, could always use them against him once he finally get his balls back. David still doesn't know about him hating his damn guts because he stole something he worked for.

xxXxxXxxDerek looked at Anubis as she was leaving, he didn't care if she asked. The quicker she gets the girl, the better. "Go, just drag her back if you have to," he told Anubis as he nodded to let them go. "Plus I wouldn't of minded if you left, the quicker you find her the better right?" he said to the both of them as he waited for them to leave him alone.

As David walked pass his second, he almost smiled that Rodger followed him like an anxious child barreling you with questions. “What are we doing today? Are we going to do something fun? You know today how we sat in the car and did nothing but listen to the radio for 12 hours? That was fun, we should do that again. Can we do that today?” David smiled to himself. He really shouldn’t make fun of Rodger; he knew the goings on of the vampires in Atlanta better than he did. The problem with Rodger was that he was a coward, and cowards are good for nothing except exactly what a leader needs them to do: whatever and whenever they ask, without skipping a step, without hesitation, and without asking questions. It was kind of like being in love. It was true though, David loved Rodger like he was his own younger brother. David knew he could count on him; he was glad that Rodger was his second.

“No,” He said, his voice just as mellow as Rodgers’. “I tried to help her…” He let the comment hang in the air. He didn’t need to explain why he would randomly help a random human, or what she needed help with. There were some things you just didn’t want to tell your younger brother about, especially about feelings that you needed to get rid of.

As the men reached the bedchamber hallways, David had to ask. “Did you need something?” It wasn’t that he wanted to get rid of Rodger; it was just that he didn’t necessarily need Rodger to follow him to his destination.

Rodger didn't really like David, he liked him before but now it just changed for him. "Oh... Well nothing, sorry, I'll be on the couch or in bed," he chuckled a bit as he left David alone and taking off towards his own room. It wasn't too far from David's but far enough to give each other privacy. "Didn't mean to make it seem annoying," he said before closing his bedroom door. Rodger jumped onto his bed, and hid under the covers.

x x x x x x x x x x Now finally having her room cleared of the human filth, Temarah took a seat in her lounge chair. The queen never properly sat though, so she slowly laid her body across the red velvet and propped her head upon her left arm. Opening her book she started to recite it to herself more than her mind’s eye read from it. She knew ‘Lolita’ by heart now, she enjoyed getting herself caught up in all the sexual frustration, and she liked to watch through a man’s eyes the softness of a woman’s features. It was 317 pages of pure seduction, and Temarah loved it all.

After a few pages she lifted hear head and waved her left hand towards the radio. The radio turned itself on and resumed playing the middle of the 3rd act of ‘Faust.’ Very few humans could listen to a wordy opera and read a book in a different language and still know what the beings in your house was doing. Many mothers nowadays would claim to have this ability, when they were the most ignorant when it came to what their children were doing. She smiled as David confessed his feelings to Kate. If she ever had children, she would assume they would be like David; beautiful, but not too smart.

As Kate’s truck roared to life and left the park Temarah could hear the heavy padding of boots getting closer as David grumpily walked back to Temarah’s room and Rodgers as he wanted to know what happened. After David dismissed his second Temarah smiled,, knowing what was going to happen. When he knocked and she gave her permission for him to enter, she did not make eye contact with him, and he didn’t try to get it. “She’s gone.” He said simply as he flung his body into her coffin, lid open.

“I know what happened.” She said, probably a little too snappy. Still though, that David continues to think that he needs to tell her what happens in her house is starting to rub on her. Temarah smiled to her book. “You led her to a fake trail, and she believed you…” She left out the part where he had a human moment and tried to make a claim on Kate. “I did not know you were such a good actor, David. I wish I could have seen the performance.” She smiled. “You must let me know if there will be an encore.”

“Sorry, it’s just the one night only.” David only moved his lips. He was exhausted, her child needed sleep. David was just going to have to get used to it for a few more hours though, for the queen needed one more errand from her servant.

“I need you to do something for me.” She closed her book and raised herself from the lounger. David curled himself over and when he saw the vampire woman had arisen from her perch and standing in front of her coffin.

“What will you have me do, milady?” He said as he got out and knelt in front of her. Dear precious David, ever loyal to his queen.

“There is a shape shifting pair that has been assigned to retrieve Kate and take her back to the Pack.” Temarah said to the back of David’s head as he was bowed low in front of her. “This cannot happen…. If that imbecile of a leader finds out where I am, everything will be ruined, my darling.” David raised his head to look at her, but remained in his bow.

“Wh- What will you have me do?” David asked, reminding Temarah how blunt of a tool David was for her, a very blunt tool.

“I want you to kill them!” She quickly raised David to her eye level by his throat simply by a wave of a hand. She hissed as her fangs bore through her teeth. “We need things to go according to plan; otherwise everything we have done will be for nothing! Everything YOU have done will be for nothing.” David didn’t fight her; he knew it was idiotic to question her. Temarah gently set him on his feet. “Now go.”

He made for the door, and when he had swung the dual doors in front of him, she called after him. “Oh, and David,” He swung around on his toes. “If you fail me, I will tear her heart out in front of you.” David nodded his understanding and closed the door behind him with a loud thud.

As David slowly stepped away from Temarah’s room he didn’t know what to do or what to think. There was no way that he would ever have Kate the way he wanted, and there was no possible way that even if they wanted to be together there was no place for them to be. A bird may love a fish, but where would they live?

He reached the door and he thudded his head on it, the pain sending a small shockwave of clarity through his mind. Then just like all waves, it receded and the fog came back. The vampire sighed into the wood, then raising his head, he knocked on the door. He raised his arms and stood in the doorway waiting for his second to answer.

He knocked again. “Come on Rodger.” He said. “I need you.” He whispered to himself.

Rodger was bored, somewhat, as he waited for something to happen. The man had a coffin as well, but he liked the beds more. Just more... Fitting if you try to find something normal about this place. When he heard the knock, he jumped nearly three feet in the air and fell on the ground. 's**t!' He thought to himself as he tried getting up from the ground to answer the damn door. Throwing his notes in his desk drawer he locked it, don't need David to see things like that now does he?

Opening the door, "Need me? Now that sounded a bit desperate," he smiled a bit. It felt a bit nice to feel needed by others when you are worthless s**t. Coward as well, big one at that...

David smiled as he heard things falling when he knocked on the door. David had never gone to a university, turning into a vampire at a time when only the wealthiest of families sent their children, he never had a chance. He wondered if living with Rodger and the others at times like this were like living in a dormitory with ones cohorts, ones that you could simply knock on their door and demand to ‘hang out’ with each other.

“Yes, we have some people to capture, torture and then possibly kill.” He said, turning his back on Rodger and making his way through the halls and corridors. When they reached the foyer David immediately stopped in his tracks. He could still smell her. He could still see her footprints where she stood watching him writhe his body around in a dramatic manner. He really would do anything to please her. She hadn’t even smiled at his effort. Had she even thanked him?

“I can’t-” David said. He didn’t move and his eyes seemed to be transfixed on the floor where he could see her footprints. “I can’t do this.” He willed his body to move, his eyes to look at something else. It wouldn’t obey. He just stood there like a statue.

Rodger smiled a bit, it was something he would enjoy. "Sounds like fun," he said as he followed like a child would its father. "Just what or who are we going after?" he asked, sounding very excited about it. Not paying attention to where he was going he ran into the back of David. 'Why did he just stop?' He thought as he back up from David and got in front of him. No he wasn't mad, he was... More or less confused. Maybe he was annoyed.

"Can't do it?" He questioned trying to get into David's field of vision. Rodger wanted to know what was going on through the vampires mind. "David what is wrong with you?" he asked, knowing something was really wrong with him. He may hate David's guts for taking the leader position before him, but he does get worried about him. "You sick? Or somethin'?" He asked his leader, who probably would become pissed with him, but not Rodger's fault that David gave him much worry.

Still unable to move, the vampire just stood there. His gaze still mesmerized on the spot on the floor, the vampires eyes started to glaze over and tears started to pool.

“All of it. Rodger, I can’t go on pretending. I’ve never felt so torn like this before. I want to hold her and protect her from all evil in the world, and I still want to follow whatever the queen tells me, because I am duty bound to her. How can I go on pretending that I love somebody who doesn’t love me back? How does one keep the personal and the professional apart from each other when your professional is so personal to you?” The vampire sank to the floor and buried his face in his hands.

“Yes she knew it when we were together. I knew I was wrong, by telling her the truth. The ugly truth that broke our relationship as a friend; the fact that I love her.
I realize now that when she left me an hour ago it broke my heart. For the first time since I’ve changed, I’m crying. I’ve tried to hold these tears. I tried to forget. It didn’t work. I still love her. I can’t live without her. She is the best thing I never had. I want her back.
Actually I had tried to hold this feeling. I did a relationship with a girl just to see how it feels. I thought I could moved on but I was wrong. She saved me. She knew that a woman could never really love me. So I went back to being alone.”

He sighed and lifted his head. “I’ll try to take her back. Back to the person she used to be. She’s moved on but I won’t give up. I believe I can bring her to our old relationship. Not to be her special one but her best friend is enough for me. Yes just a best friend.” David didn’t know where to start, or even if he wanted to go through with his new goal.

Rodger heard what David was saying, he somewhat got it. "Calm down, David, I'll help you no matter what," he said to the vampire as he held his hand out to him. Such a liar, just trying to get closer to the other somehow. If that means to tell him something that might cheer him up, or completely piss him off, it was worth it though. Pulling his hand back for a second, "I am sorry this breaks your heart even more, but then she doesn't deserve you."

Needing something else, putting his hand back out, "You listen to the queen, I'll listen to you," he said waiting for David to take his hand so they could get whatever they need to do done. "You have a plan in that head of yours, you just need to think about it..."

‘Calm down, David.’ That’s what Rodger had said. Calm down. The last thing that David wanted to do was calm down, he wanted to fly, he wanted to dig, and he wanted to run. He wanted to be elsewhere. As long as she wasn’t there, he could be anywhere.

Rodger asked him about a plan. “We need to do a locator spell for the radar, to see where all the shape shifters are. We’ll need supplies for it.” That was about as far as he had thought of.

He smiled and took Rodgers hand and pulled it to help himself up to standing. “But the evil doer shape shifters can wait a few hours. Right now I need girls, music, my best friend, and lots and lots of tequila.”
