========================

It was about an hour after Ay settled in the living room that Krotak finally awoke. He had been up pretty late last night keeping an eye on Erik, who was definitely doing worse today than he had been yesterday. ”Idiot,” Krotak muttered under his breath. In addition to keeping an eye on his young ward, he had been thinking about what he was going to do: Erik would be pissed at him for getting help from someone as it was Erik’s belief that no one could be trusted and everyone would end up disappointing you in the end; but on the other hand, Erik was proving that even when he had finally settled in a town, he was still not set. The man needed a real home, especially one where he wouldn’t have to ration everything and he could live with someone who genuinely wished for nothing but the best for him. Looking down at his sorry little chick, Krotak knew there really was only one option that he could choose: even if it put a strain on their relationship, it was more important that Erik had a chance at a good life. Quietly taking flight, he cruised the halls looking for some sign as to where their host was. He could hear strange calls coming from downstairs. There was a narrator speaking as well, so it was probably just one of those moving picture things, but this was the glowworm they were talking about, the idiot might actually bring a freaking tiger into the house and expect it to convert to vegetarianism given enough hugs. Gliding into the living room, he was pleased to see that it was in fact a gigantic moving picture box and not a homicide in progress. One point for the glowworm. ”Morning Glowworm,” he said as he landed upon the arm of the elf’s couch. For someone who was about to ask a huge favor, he definitely was not going to precede it with some buttering up. ”No need to get up, Erik majorly overdid it yesterday, so he’s going to be down for the count for a while yet.” He managed to speak calmly despite how deep his worry ran.

”Speaking of, that question yesterday, it was hypothetical at the time, but it’s real now. I’ve got a friend who has been living in a storage closet for a few months now. He lives off of toast and noodle-infused salt blocks, only one of each per day. When he’s not working at the store where his closet is, he gets shoved out and has to deal with the elements whatever they are, which of course is problematic in a place where the weather might literally be death. So I’m calling you on that. He needs to stay here, but he would never ask you himself cause he has some serious trust issues and gets seriously paranoid when he has to rely upon someone besides himself. He’ll probably try to back out of it, but I can make him stay, especially if we work out a sort of rent system. Oh, and I assume by now you’ve figured out that I’m talking about Erik. Kid’s such a martyr, drives me crazy.” He wasn’t going to elaborate anymore on it, Ay had received enough info to be caught up on the issue, it didn’t really matter that he didn’t know every detail involved.

The documentary was quite interesting. Even though Ayluin already had quite some knowledge about the animal kingdom, since he devoured a lot of books about it back home when he was actually supposed to be learning about politics, he still learns every time he watched stuff like this. For example this particular documentary taught him just now that the name Lemur actually came from Greek Lemures which meant ghosts or spirits. And how there were 100 different species of them. He knew pretty much everything else, but he always enjoyed how the programs were put together with music and amazing footage. The moonelf was so focused on the show that he didn't even notice Krotak making an entrance until they landed next to him on the arm of the couch and said good morning. Ayluin looked up from the television at the raven and smiled gently. "Goodmorning Mister Krotak. How are you doing today?" he asked, though he already expected a report about how Erik was doing too. The elf hoped that they were feeling better, but after seeing them yesterday that chance was small.

Unfortunately his guess was soon confirmed when Krotak spoke of Erik. Ayluin had feared as much, but he still felt worried about it. "I feared that would be the case. He needs to take more rest." he said agreeing with the raven. There wasn't much time to think about it thought because Krotak soon spoke about the odd question yesterday. Ayluin listened calmly until they finished, though indeed he already guessed it was about Erik. That also explained the sudden question asked. Even with spending time with Erik though, Ayluin had not realized just how deep his uncertainty went. It sounded rather serious. But that was something for another time. After the raven finished, the moonelf smiled a bit and nodded. "I wouldn't know what to ask as rent as I personally wouldn't expect anything in return, but it sounds like he really needs help. So of course you two can stay here. I have this large house and barely use half of it. Plenty of room for two more tenants." he agreed, clearly fine with the idea to have them here for a permanent situation.

"If he really has so little trust in others though, it might be tough to convince him to stay even when he feels better. But I will leave that part to you then Mister Krotak. No wonder he looks so skinny, it's sad to hear he has to live like that. You both can stay as long as you want." the moonelf replied and he also was reminded of food. Since he never had to worry about it, especially back in the palace, it slipped his mind until now. "Speaking of I have three bowls of breakfast in the fridge. One for each of us. I don't know if you'll like it as it is a recipe from my homeland and consists of fruit, yogurt and granola, but you can try it when you feel like it and I can bring one to Erik if he is awake enough sometime today. Especially now I want to make sure he eats enough." the moonelf worded his thoughts.

ON HIS PERSON

House Keys
Several bags of seeds

HIS ABILITIES

⬤ One of his abilities is that he can grow plants from seeds. Nothing major but he can grow small fruits (berries, strawberries etc.) and herbs.

He can conjure a powerful shield of energy which blocks attacks and repels the attacker. But the more often he has to use it or the longer he has to sustain it, the more energy this drains. The same goes for how many he is protecting. If it is just himself it takes less energy than when protecting two or more. If he is to tired he can't call upon the shield at all.

Beginner Illusions
He can cast the more basic magic from the school of Illusions. This in his case is most strong when he casts animals. They are also more solid and interactive when the full moon is high.

Good, the glowworm was doing as expected, even better, he was leaving things open for Krotak to adjust. ”Good. You do gardening, right? How about he works for you twenty hours per week, once he’s able of course, in exchange for room and board? He’d probably rather just pay, but that isn’t really an option given his monetary status. Oh, and of course he has to pull his own weight around the house. Is that agreeable to you?” He felt like a parent negotiating with a neighbor for how his son could make up for a broken window, even though that wasn’t exactly the situation here. Instead of an angry neighbor asking for a ton of things, Ay was willing to give everything for free. It was the guilty kid who was asking for the payment plan, or at least he would be if he knew what was going on. As for the trust issue, he simply smirked ”don’t you worry your pretty little head about it one bit. I know how he thinks. I can convince him to stay whether he likes it or not.” That was definitely as much of a threat as it sounded. ”And we are going to have to confront him about this soon, he’s been pushing himself so hard cause he wants to make it seem like he has recovered so he can sneak out sooner, and hopefully not owe you so much. He’s more worried about debt than potentially relapsing back in his closet where there wouldn’t be anyone besides me to take care of him.” But that was the sort of s**t Erik always pulled, not intentionally of course, but Krotak had nearly lost the kid one too many times now, and it was long since time to put his talons down on this issue. ”Erik has always been on the thin side, but yes, it was real hard to watch him waste away like that, knowing there wasn’t anything I could do to help. Believe it or not, he actually looks a little bit better since he came to Soleil. Not much, but some. And he definitely looks better every time after you invited him over for a meal.” Speaking of food, seemed like the glowworm had been busy. ”Hmm, maybe I will take mine now. You might want to as well, it will be a while before he wakes up, and who knows how much tending he is going to need.” Probably a lot.

About an hour and a half later, Kro was hanging out wherever Ayluin happened to be, when he seemed to zone out for a minute. His eyes were focused on nothing in particular, yet it seemed he was perceiving something. After a moment, he returned back to the present and looked over towards Ayluin, ”he’s awake. He’s messed up, but not a total relapse. And he could definitely use something to eat.” Krotak left the glowworm, assuming the man would go ahead and take care of things like he needed, while Kro flew on up to play sympathetic friend and nurse. Entering the bedroom, he was taken aback by how pale his baby chick was, but also by how obvious it was that the poor man was in pain. Krotak grabbed the eye patch and draped it over the missing eye before landing on the bed and nuzzling against Erik’s cheek. ”Shh little one, the glowworm will be here soon, and I bet he has all sorts of meds and salves and stuff that will have you feeling better in no time.”

Ayluin nodded when Krotak asked about his job. "Yes, I run my own small gardening business that takes me around Soleil to tend other people's gardens with my magic. It's really not necessary and I have not really tried doing it without magic, but I am sure we can find a way to allow Erik to work for his stay here. Especially if that would make him feel better about it." he replied. To be fair, the moonelf didn't feel it was right to ask any kind of repay from his friend for the help. But it was clear to him by now that the other male would feel less bothered if they could repay him one way or another. And some extra help with this large house was not a dealbreaker. It always took Ayluin quite a while to clean the entire place by himself. And it was definitely preferred above Erik relapsing out of view.

It was also worrying to hear how their life had been so far and it just made the moonelf want to help them even more. No one should be subjected to such a life and it was hard for the 'pampered' prince to even imagine a life without enough food and no stability for housing. "Well you two will never go hungry again, I will make sure of that." Ayluin promised there and then. He would do everything in his power to avoid them ever needing to worry about food again. Or being sent outside in the cold or heat. And perhaps he might see a chance to make sure Erik could have some money in his pockets as well so they wouldn't be entirely dependent of Ayluin. If he would ever be late or if the other felt like doing something for themselves for example. But they would need to see how it went.

Also because the moonelf didn't want Erik to feel bad about it. When he spoke of the breakfast it would seem that his offer of food was quickly accepted and Ayluin smiled. "Then a breakfast for two it is." he said and chuckled a bit before getting up and walking to the kitchen where he took two of the bowls out of the fridge. With one look Ayluin could already see that his recipe had worked. It was the first time he tried to make it without one of the royal cooks checking if it went alright. The moonelf brought both bowls back to the living room and placed one of them on the table for Krotak while he sat down with his own on the couch. After that he watched some more television with the raven before sitting down with one of his books about illusions and practiced until he noticed Krotak was distracted. It soon became clear why as they spoke and then flew off. Ayluin smiled, closed his book and ceased his practice right away to bring the breakfast and some medicine to Erik.

They were made by himself with help from mother nature herself. He had become rather good with natural remedies, growing most herbs himself in his garden and used books less and less because he already possessed the herbal knowledge. "Goodmorning Erik." he said as he walked into the room, though he blinked a bit when he noticed how pale the other was. Clearly his friend had been pushing himself way to much. However the moonelf smiled, as to not draw the attention to Erik's current state, thinking they might not want it to be highlighted. "I hope you are hungry, I brought you a meal from my homeland. As well as some medicine for the pain and to help your body heal." Ayluin walked to the bed and placed the bowl of food on the table nearby, though he would wait with the medicine until Erik gave the ok. Besides, it might be better they ate something first either way.

Krotak wouldn’t admit it, but yogurt and stuff wasn’t really his thing, but it was still a free meal, and after two years with Erik, he knew never to turn such a thing down. Still, a bird could always hope that stuff would improve and it would be back to luxuriant meat dishes once again. Cause Erik needed protein. Yeah, that was totally his motivation. Once upstairs, Kro started working on adjusting covers, and performing any other menial task that might make his chick just a little bit more comfortable. ”You really don't have to be such a good nurse, but I appreciate it all the same." Though food would have been really nice, he needed a little something to make him a little more, well, functional. "Maybe we could do the medicine first, if it’s all the same to you. Guess I’m a little sore from my therapy yesterday, don’t want to be moving like Frankenstein’s monster,” he said that last part with a smirk, but even Krotak rolled his eyes at how lame of a cover that story was. ”Sore muscles? Yeah, cause that’s totally a legit reason for why you’re paler than the glowworm and as lively as a snail. Damn martyr.” He wouldn’t outright argue yet, Erik was still definitely a serious patient and for the moment was being rather good about not screwing everything up…Kro supposed he could give him a little bit of a break. ”Should we clean and redo all of the bandages?” he asked Ay. ”If nothing else, just to make sure that some dumb bunny didn’t reopen or damage anything?” He glared in Erik’s direction, which was as good as calling him out on it. ”Maybe he lost more blood in the night and that is why he’s paler than one of those flying puffballs?” Erik sighed, ”alright Kro, I think we all get it now. I’m sorry I worried you and I’ll be more careful, ok?” Krotak ruffled his feathers but left it at that, damn he was a sucker for this chick. ”Thank you. You’re too annoying when you do the whole passive-aggressive thing.” This time without a glare, he looked Erik dead in the eye and said, ”one day I’m going to get you a nice, shiny glass eye, just so I can take it from you at really inconvenient times.” At least there was a smirk to his posture…

Fortunately Erik was not nearly so bad off as Krotak had been implying, though that was not to say he was doing well. The bullet hole in his shoulder was beginning to show signs of healing up; and while the bruise along his ribs looked horrible (it was about one and a half hands long and two hands wide,) the damage had been there the whole time, it just hadn’t showed up until now. However the bullet wound in his abdomen was definitely not doing too well, his insistence on proving he was cured meant that the injury had gotten very little down time to try to heal and thus it was still incredibly tender and the edges were looking rough. Left unattended, there was a good chance it would get infected and cause even more problems.

Ayluin was a bit surprised as he looked at the scene before him. It was the first time he saw a raven work on bed covers and tending to someone. Or any bird for that matter. It wouldn't stop him for long though. His friend needed him. As such he had made his way to Erik's side and listened to them as they spoke. "Don't mention it. I'm glad to help." he replied and gave them a gentle smile. It was good to see them more awake. Now if only they could refrain themselves from pushing it again. Ayluin carefully sat down on the bed as he looked at Krotak when they spoke of the bandages and nodded. "I did plan to do that today yes, though I am not sure what you mean with puffballs. We can do the medicine first Erik, but be sure to eat soon after then, because it can be a little tough on an empty stomach." the elf explained with a hint of worry coming through. He didn't want Erik to get a painful stomach after all. It was alright to do medicines first and then the food, as long as there wasn't too long of a time in between. A soft chuckle escaped the moonelf as he listened to Erik and Krotak going back and forth. "I'm glad to see you are feeling better than the day I found you though." he admitted as he opened the bottle of clear dark orange liquid that he brought.

Of course he kept in mind Krotak's words from earlier so he looked at Erik and smiled a bit. "I made this myself. It's a mixture of blueberries, cranberries, Ginseng and Holy Basil. It will help you recover faster and give you an energy boost to get through the days. Just please don't confuse it with being healed right away. You still need to take it easy. If you need anything, you can just let me know." Ayluin said before he got fresh water and sat back down at Erik's bed and added the mixture to the water. He didn't add much, just a few drops were enough to help Erik with his injuries. Still it wasn't a miracle medicine. "I won't lie, it tastes horrible. So best you drink it in one or two goes. It will help but it's no cure it all. But Mr. Krotak has the right of it. I will have a look at your injuries first." the elf said, explaining what he would do so he wouldn't surprise his friend. In Ayluin's case it wasn't the first time he tended to Erik, but this would be the first time Erik would be conscious while he did. So the moonelf wanted to make sure he didn't act to quick in case it might startle them. Ayluin would move to stand next to Erik and tend to his shoulder first as it seemed to be the least sensitive spot. Of course Ayluin's knowledge was more based on sword and knife induced, though he never experienced any of it being intentional, when it came to the guard practicing in the courtyard.

It had all seemed like a game then to the young, inexperienced Ayluin who was raised with not a care in the world. It all seemed to be going well, though the bruise looked nasty yet it seemed to be curing alright, until he got to the injury in Erik's abdominal area. Though of course he attempted to make it painless as possible. The wound looked pretty bad though and it caused the moonelf not a small amount of worry. It hadn't been given proper rest. Still Ayluin continued his aid as carefully as possible as he took off the bandage and then opened a bag with a gauze in it before putting a mixture of Yarrow and Lavender on it and turned back to Erik. "This might sting a little. But it is a mixture of herbs that will help with avoiding infection to set in." he warned the other before putting the treated gauze on his wound. Provided he was able to, the moonelf would proceed with bandaging it up anew. He felt really glad he already made most of these medicines before hand, considering they might come in handy. However the mixture of yarrow and lavender was freshly made the day before and therefor rather potent. Once he was done with the bandages, he smiled a bit to Erik and stepped away from them in case they preferred him to. "That should do it for now. I have a lot of different ingredients here. If you need something else but the meal I made, don't hesitate to ask alright? I'll happily make you two your preferred meals." he offered them both.

========================

He gave a slight smirk, ”doubt that’s anything you need to worry about. I’m not exactly known for turning down free food when it’s offered.” Though perhaps his build suggested otherwise, one didn’t really get his body just from being naturally thin. But then there was the tiff between he and Kro, which seemed to entertain Ay, and hopefully made him forget about any doubts he may have had about Erik’s condition. ”Saying I’m better than then isn’t really saying much, is it? But I am a lot better now. Not nearly so unconscious.” Yep, the smart a** was strong in this one. But hey, acting normal was a sign he was on the mend, and being a smart a** was his normal, so who knows he might be home free in no time. Well, home free provided Ay’s medicinal skills were as he good as the elf thought they were. Hearing that the medicine had been made by him was not the greatest of assurances to Erik, but the elf had kept him alive this long, perhaps he really did have enough knowledge not to need the FDA. He nodded at the description, noting with mild bemusement how much he emphasized that this tonic was not, in fact, a cure but merely a catalyst so to speak. ”A boost in energy so that I can take it easy? Doesn’t that sound a bit…I don’t know…opposite? I’m surprised you aren’t trying to sedate me or anything.” That would be one way to keep him from overworking himself, though if the sedation involved a giant mallet it might set him back a few days. Plus his headache was finally starting to ebb away and it would be really shitty to get another one on top of that one. Before the drink of horrendous taste was administered however, Ay decided that it was time to redress the wounds. ”I think one of them isn’t healing up too well,” he said lightly resting his hand on the bullet wound in his belly. His hand didn’t stay there long before he let it flop off to the side, to relieve the decidedly uncomfortable pressure.

He prepared for the unwrapping to be painful, yet as the bandages came away from his shoulder, all he really felt was a lack of pressure and a sting like a sweat bee every time something brushed up against the wound itself. Maybe there wasn’t really anything to worry about after all? He would move as needed so that Ay could get to whatever part he was working on, but for the most part he rested against the pillow which softened the headboard and let Ay do whatever it was he needed to do. Even the gigantic bruise failed to elicit any sort of reaction from him even if it was somewhat gross to look at (or that’s what Ay’s expression seemed to indicate.) But of course, the last injury was the worst one by far. He could feel the bandages trying to stick to him and with how careful Ay was being it had to be a grisly sight. The bottle and gauze plus Ay letting him know that the tincture was to prevent infection did more than enough to confirm his worry. ”That bad, huh?” Erik’s breath caught the moment Ay placed the treated gauze on him, but he refused to show any outward sign of pain lest Ay think him weak and thus exploitable. ”This isn’t half as bad as some of the s**t you faced. You lost a freaking eye at thirteen. Some little pockmark to the belly isn’t worth the effort of pain.” That was what he convinced himself, and for him it was entirely true. When Ay pulled away, Erik was just as calm as he had been when Ay first arrived that day, as if there was absolutely no reason why he should feel any different. Erik went ahead and took the medicine as soon as he had some space, drinking it down in a single go. ”See what you mean. It’s doesn’t taste that bad, but I doubt it will ever be the flavor of the month. I’ll be fine once I go ahead and eat, really. And thank you for everything. I should be back to my normal self in no time.” That was untrue and Erik knew it, but he didn’t need Ay thinking he had just gained a long-time house guest. Who knows what sort of payback the elf might construe.

Ayluin nodded a bit, a slight apologetic look over his features. It was true his comment about looking better than just after the attack wasn't saying much. Still it was a fact that they might still have a long recovery ahead. Some of the wounds had been really bad. Still it was a good sign that they were getting their usual personality back and it was definitely better than them being unconscious. After that he got ready to address the injuries and spoke with them as he did so. But it would seem, to Ayluin that is, that they confused what he had said. The moonelf smiled and shook his head. "The boost in energy will just help with the healing. You might feel a bit more energized, but don't confuse it with being ready to go about the house yet." Ayluin said, with worry lacing his words. "You might end up worse than you have been. So take your rest while able." the young man requested, concerned they might try something to hasty. In the meanwhile he had started to work on the bandages.

"There is no need for sedation I might hope. Though I certainly know the herbs for it." he replied with a light smile. Of course he wouldn't sedate Erik. There really was no necessity to do so. And the elf wouldn't feel right doing it either way, unless the other would be in so much pain it would become unbearable. But they were already healing up. Mostly anyway. Ayluin looked over the injuries, taking care of them one by one, and most seemed to be getting better. But when he reached the last one it was still worrying him badly. There was no infection yet and the mixture would sure help prevent one setting in, but it was pretty deep. He startled slightly when his friend drew a sudden breath in pain, but he managed to keep his hand steady so he didn't make it worse. The last he wanted was to hurt the other, which probably showed in his expression at the time, but he couldn't avoid it with this wound it seemed. Once he had put a clean bandage on it, Ayluin sat back a bit and looked back at Erik. The young man made some room when his friend reached for the medicine. His first instinct was to grab it for Erik but the latter seemed ill inclined to be waited on with everything, so the moonelf allowed them to take the glass themselves.

A gentle smile formed when Erik commented about the medicine, though his expression remained troubled, and he nodded. "It's the composition of the ingredients used. Sadly I can't make it more appetizing without diminishing it's healing effect." the elf explained. Many elves before him had tried, but it always had ended in the concoction to become less potent to a point where you might as well not take it. "You don't need to feel rushed for healing. You're really not in my way and I'm glad we were on time. Take your time recovering and if there is anything you need, just let me know and I'll do all in my power to grant it." the moonelf replied genuinely. "Eating is a good idea though. I hope you like the meal." he said with a kind, gentle voice.
