"How good are they at seeing through illusions?" Diana inquired, passing her flask over to Castiel as she did so.

"Maybe I could just show up looking like your normal everyday human, at least until we get them to trust me. Or are they really quite as paranoid as all that?"

Diana could tell that Castiel was nervous, but she wasn't to sure about just hanging around, she would prefer to get him to safety as soon as possible, not that confident she could keep him safe if a few angels showed up looking to kill him.

"They can be thick headed at times but they are the most feared hunters by supernatural beings and fellow hunters alike." Castiel couldn't help that proud tone as he said this. "I feel it would be safer for you if I tested the waters with a phone call. Though, your safety would be guaranteed if you just left..."

The thought saddened the angel. Regardless if it was less than a day and under great duress, Stockholm syndrome or the Florence Nightingale effect or whatever the label was, he now thought of the Kitsune as a friend. As he had a hard time making friends, and keeping the ones he already has for that matter, and that he was hard pressed for friends he was reluctant to let this one go.

Diana chewed her lower lip as she thought it over, though she was quite sure that she could handle the hunters in a fight she was found of Castiel, and knew he would be upset with her if she wound up truing his friends into charcoal.

"Okay, if you think it will work out best that way, just as long as you can do it quick, we've had luck so far, but the quicker your some places safe, the happier I will be, never did this whole escort mission thing."

A small smile formed on Castiel's lips, "Thank you."

Diana staying with him, despite the many dangers that followed him, lifted a soul crushing weight from his shoulders. A weight he had never really realized was there. One he couldn't really identify. It was like he could suddenly breathe again, like he could finally relaxed. Since raising Dean from perdition he could remember having a moment's rest or ever encountering a single shred of kindness.

"Has Shade spotted anything yet?"

Before Diana could answer his question the angel suddenly stopped mid stride, cocking his head to the side not in confusion but as if he was trying to hear something.

"Do you hear that?" he asked abruptly after minutes of silence.

Diana paused also, and though the glamer kept her ears invisible they were still there and one twitched in the direction of a small crying sound, she turned and both ears stood strait up as she located the sound.

"Kitten, sounds like its coming from the woods, don't think your lot tends to posses them, so I don't think its anything we have to worry about."

"A kitten?" the angel went silent, a constipated expression on his face as debated internally. His eyes keep darting towards the woods with every faint mewl.

He won't deny that he had a soft spot for cats, but apparently recent events have turned turned that 'spot' into a deep canyon. The mewls were weak and distressed. This innocent creature was in trouble. In over his furry head. Castiel could relate, well, except for the 'innocent' part.

Castiel bit his lip.

He had to get to Dean but he couldn't just abandon the poor thing.

"If you worried we can go look for it," Diana couldn't help it, who knew that angels would be worried so much about a single cat, still it was worth a short trip, if they could hear the sound it was doughtfull they were that far away. "One more member of are little bunch can't help. Lets go find you a pet Castiel old boy."

Castiel's cheeks actually colored a little when the Kitsune saw through him. Though he was deeply grateful for Diana's understanding he barely got out a 'thank you' before stalking back into the woods following the heartbreaking mewls.

Diana went as quickly as possible over the rough terrain, following the low and frightened cries. It didn't take them to long to come across an abandoned and decrepit cabin, it was so rotted that Diana couldn't help but wonder who it had not yet collapsed in on itself.

Those mews where coming from there, so Diana wasted know time drawing her sword and pushing the door in, all it took was a small shove and with a muted thud it half fell half crumbled.

Castiel immediately rushed through the pathetic excuse for a doorway to the center of the rotting structure. There he stayed impossibly still yet terrifyingly alert and listened.

A miserable mewl sounded and the angel wasted no time in rushing toward the source: a pile of collapsed furniture and other junk by the corner to his left. He knelt down slowly before the heap, careful not to jostle it. It was mostly wood, so lighter than metal but still weighty. Glass was scattered sporadically amongst the wreck.

Another mewl.

"Hey there, little guy. I'm here. I'll get you out."

"Careful there," Diana cautioned as she kept her sword drawn and ready, ears straining to hear for any sign of danger. "This place looks like it might fall down if some one so much as sneezes, that and no telling what else might be lurking around."


Diana moved behind Castiel, her back to him just in case there was anything that left like sneaking up behind them and trying to make a quick meal out of them.

Castiel quickly buried the anger and grief at his helplessness. It would do him or the poor kitten any good at the moment. So he took a dep breath, he's seen humans do this to calm down, and peered into the mess.

"I see him." with a subtle gesture Cas indicated a hollow deep in the pile of scrap wood beneath a chair and a broken cupboard. "Hang on, little guy..." Castiel frowned when he noticed the blood.

Diana turned to help Castiel move the last few obstructions, thankfully the kitten didn't run, though it gave a small hiss as it shivered and pressed against the wall. Diana pulled out some dried meat which she passed to Castiel. Being careful not to make any sudden movements to further startle the frighted little cat.

"Thank you," said Castiel as he accepted the dried meat.

Moving ever so slowly, as not to scare the poor creature further, he crouched down and swept away the stray glass shards between himself and the wounded kitten, unaware of the cuts and scratches he sustained doing so. The animal flinched and hissed hysterically at the close motions but the angel made sure all the shards were cleared before pulling back.

Castiel then stilled, giving the frightened creature a moment to calm down before he held out the meat. "Here, little guy. I hope you're not so hurt that you can't walk..."

The kitten hissed even more hysterically, but only at first. When it caught the scent of the offered food the creature went quiet.

"Yes, it's for you." Cas waved the offering gently, attempting to encourage the kitten. "Come on."

The small thing was hesitant, eyes flitting between the meat and Castiel's eyes. Minutes passed before the kitten struggled to stand and took a cautious step forward.

Then another.

And another.

Soon the kitten had limped right up to the dried meat and snatched it up with adrenaline fueled strength and speed. Castiel drew back to let the starved creature eat its fill. Once the meat was gone and the kitten was licking his lips, Castiel held out his hand for it to sniff. Less hesitant, the kitten did just that. Soon it was rubbing up against the angel's hand so Cas pet the cat for a few minutes.

Once he felt the kitten was relaxed enough he carefully scooped up the bloodied and matted creature and cradled it against his chest gently.
