The equal sign is a pair of eyes, and the semicolon is a hand. The slant is the mouth...some of Deity's emoticons are too similar. For instance...

"= 0;;" - squinting one eye, raising the other eyebrow, and scratching his temple

"O=" - saying 'ohhhh' or some other exclamation

"= =" - squinting both eyes in frustration

". =;;" - looking confused and scratching his head

...Deity has more text emoticons than .gif emoticons. ._.;;
