Madilyne heard the squeak of the chair as he stood and faced his direction. "Yea.....um well he's not really my father since I wasn't technically born but Professor Stein has treated me like a daughter since the very first day I was given life." She said.

Mercer showed no feeling whatsoever "A patchwork creation of the man then. I guess that explains how you could lose your eyes. Is there any way I can help?"

Madilyne blushed regardless of whoever could see or not. "Well.....I'm not sure. I've never been in father's office and being eyeless doesn't help my case. I know at home he has extras but I'm not sure if there are any here." She told him.

Mercer just shrugged, not sure if she could see him at least a little or something he didn't want to talk all that much. He put a hand to his chin, he did have a question "So if Stein created you than you must be special somehow. Are you?" He asked."

Madilyne tilted her head to one side as he spoke. "Special?" She said with a deeper blush. "I don't know about that...but I'm.... a weapon. If that's what you mean." She rubbed her cheek a bit, her left eye finally stopping the leaking of black ooze only leaving her cheek slightly stained.

Mercer smiled just faintly. The first emotion he had given since coming to the school "Oh, a patchwork weapon. Very unique." He said with a very slight tinge of excitement.

Madilyne lifted her head in the boy's direction when he spoke. "Oh.....um...thank you." She said with a shy squeak to her voice. "But I'm not special......I can't even keep my own eyes in my head..."

"Everyone is special. Especially weapons like you and meisters like myself." He stated. His emotion disappearing again. He sighed lightly "Why do you not think you are?"

Madilyne turned her face down at his question. "I....well because...." she thought about the mission...the captain and her mates....Lt. Alexis.....how they all reacted to her..what she could do. "Because I'm a monster..." she said lightly with a small hint of pain in the tone of her voice.

Mercer shrugged "I don't believe that." He stated, he could hear the pain and sadness. Much like his own "Just because you are different does not mean you are a monster. A monster wouldn't be able to feel emotion like you, sorrow, regret, anger. You have a heart and a soul, that is all that matters. Especially to people like me who use soul sensing to see." He said, that was the most he had spoken in a long time.

Mercer nodded, but then remembered that she can't see, he sighed again and spoke "Yes, I can." He said simply.

"That's really neat. " she said with a small smile and moved her head to the side. "I haven't heard of that......all I can do is turn my soul energy into an electric shock....I think." She didn't quite remember the name for her power and she thought of what she did in the streets. How she could pick up the feelings of others...feeling them herself.

Mercer scratched the back of his head, avoiding tugging on his blindfold "That's interesting, do you mind if I ask why your meister isn't here helping you get around instead of leaving an eyeless girl by herself?"
