Where were you when all of the embers fell? I still remember them.

Guess it's just me now.
Being alone's not a bad thing.
Burning.
Crackling.
The windows were closed, encased in flaming robes of red.
The blond haired girl pushed at the lock, trying to open the pane.
Crying. Yelling.
A hand grabbed at her shoulder. She flung herself around.
A girl stood, whimpering, as she pointed to the corner where a man was in flames.
"He's burning! Dae, help him- he's burning!"
The blond haired girl ran to the man and watched him die. His skin melting like crayon wax, his face disfigured. His soul already gone.
A woman with eyes like dull silver sat on the floor, staring. Saying nothing. Not moving.
Then the sky began to fall.
Dae's eyes shot open, her face sticky with sweat. Her breathing was ragged and heavy as she glanced around the room, dimly lit in early morning light. It took a minute for reality to sink in. She was fine. It was a dream. Gradually, Dae calmed down, her pulse slowing and her body relaxing. She closed her eyes. She hadn't had that dream since before she left for university. After the fire, she'd tried to forget what had happened. But her memories continued to haunt her in her dreams. Sleep was not her friend.
Groggily opening one eye, Dae glanced at her clock and realized it wouldn't be long before her alarm went off to offically wake her up. Muttering under her breath, she rolled out from her covers and got up. As much as she detested mornings, she did not want to go back to sleep after her dream. Instead she began her morning stretch routine- a daily habit that helped her wake up more and get her blood moving before the day started. As she finished her exercise and began to get ready, Dae checked her schedule. It was hard to believe that it was already Thursday- the first week of classes was flying by so fast. Seeing that she had music first block, she packed her bag accordingly. As she prepared, Dae glanced in the direction of her roommate, wondering if she should wake her up before she headed off to get breakfast.
I can be on my own.
I can do this.
I can do this.
What have we learned? Other than people burn in purifying flame...
