School of the Night

Sarah smiled. "I'll get some sheets." She walked over to her closet and pulled some out. "I'll make the bed." In the meantime, she told Lindsey to make herself at home.

Lindsey sat on the bed and nodded.
"Okay... I guess I'll just sit right... here..."
She swung her feet back and forth above the ground, a little bored but also trying to absorb the situation.

Sarah climbed to the top bunk, good thing her room had a high ceiling, and laid the sheets on it. "Okay. You can sleep up here if you like." She climbed back down. "For now let's just hang out! We'll worry about getting you signed up tomorrow. So whatcha wanna do? We've got a Rec Room with a sweet arcade and a lounge." She suggested.

"I don't know about you but the arcade sounds like a blast! Can we go there?" she asked eagerly.
Her school didn't have an arcade. Was that even fair?

"You bet! But it's not exactly apart of the school itself, we have one because this is like a boarding school. So they've got entertainment here for students who have free time. It's like our own little community."
She led Lindsey out of their room, out of the building and across the quad until they reached a pair of tinted glass doors. "Here we are." She held one door open for the girl. "After you." She said with a cheery smile. "My favorite game in here is DDR. It's the best!" She threw that out there hoping that this new girl had a thing for the exhilarating game.

"Totally!" Lindsey cried and she was about to dash into the arcade and jump on DDR but she found the place was full of students that were playing games so she refrained and walked calmly with Sarah.

Sarah picked up on Lindsey's excitement. "Just be yourself. I know you wanted to hurry up to one of the games." She flashed her a smirk and ran to the DDR. "Haha! I beat you! But you can choose the first song if you'd like." She offered and put two quarters in one of the slots.

"WHOO!" she cried and jumped onto the platform. She chose Butterfly on Standard.
"Let's go woot!"

"You're on!" She shouted with glee. The song started and the two girls were already stepping in sync. "Hey, you're not half bad!" She glanced at Lindsey with a smile.

"Not bad? I am a champ!!" she boasted.

"Oooh, are you now? Well we'll see about that! At this school, I'm known as the DDR Master!" She tooted her horn. By this time, the students in the arcade grouped in an arc around the two competitors and cheered and hollered at their high combos and lighting-fast steps.

After three songs on Oni, both girls, and the large crowd that had gathered around them, held their breath as the game summed up their scores. Lindsey starred intently at the screen. They both got AA but their number score?
Her face fell.
She got 999999999.
Sarah got 1000000000.
She groaned and a large part of the crowd cheered while the other half clapped, saying 'good game' and 'nice try' and 'so close!'Lindsey whipped away a tear of defeat. She wasn't good enough, that was depressing.

Sarah glanced at Lindsey. "Oh come now! It's just a game! Fun is what it's all about." She beamed. "Besides, I'm a student here. I probably have a little bit of an advantage because I'm different than you in some ways." She patted her on the back. "Okay, so what's next on the agenda? The cafe? Meet some new students?" The teen gasped. "Shoot! We still need to get you enrolled!" She grabbed her friend's hand and pulled her out the door. "If you're not a real student here then there's bound to be trouble. If you're a student and human, then you have protection rights. But if you're human and not a student, then other students might go after you..." She shuttered.

"O-oh." Lindsey mumbled, keeping up with the girl as best she could. "Right. I don't wanna get jumped or something."

Sarah nodded. "Right." She slowed down when they were at the front office. She walked in with Lindsey. "Excuse me," She greeted the receptionist. "she needs to be enrolled." Her thumb in her friend's direction. "Of course. We'll need her to come with us to the back room where she'll be evaluated and sign papers."
