Things had actually gotten pretty quiet and calm these days, quite possibly a first for him, so his nerves were beginning to relax. Silly Erik. He had been sleeping in a bit most mornings, not including ones where he needed to be awake at an earlier time, reminding others he was still a teenager and teenagers will be teenagers. He would have slept in even more if his phone hadn't started ringing off the hook around eight thirty. With a groan of annoyance he picked the stupid interloper up and was about to turn it off when he noticed the number calling him. "Mom? Well s**t." Sleepily he answered the phone whilst half-asleep in bed. "You know it's three hours-" "What have you done with them." Now he was wide awake. "What?" "My kids. They are gone. They left a note saying they'd be back on Sunday. My Mary is too smart a girl to have just run off like that unless you lured her away." "What the ******** all of them?" Now spurred to action he had jumped up and started getting as close to dressed as he had to, not paying a damn bit of attention to what he was picking. "Yes all of them and don't use that sort of language." "I swear I don't know anything about this." "Bullshit. You had to be involved!" For a split second he wanted to yell at her and curse her for always blaming him for everything, but he had heard the crack in her voice and the tonal shift. Him coaxing them out had been her last hope that they were ok and with his denial she was left with only nightmarish scenarios. "Look, maybe they decided to surprise me with a visit. I don't know, but I'll let you know the moment I find out anything." The other line went dead, but that was a nicer response than he had anticipated.
Kro had only caught one half of the conversation, but the panic exploding from Erik put a tightness in his chest too. He watched as Erik tried calling a number then left a message begging for Mary to get in contact with him or her mom as soon as she got his message. Was-was Erik almost crying there? Kro left his perch then came to rest on Erik's shoulder. "Maybe Ay has a way to track them?" He knew it was bad when he had to be the calm and collected one. "Y-Yeah, maybe," but he had taken off so fast Kro fell off his shoulder. The bird noticed his buddy's eyepatch still sitting on the nightstand, so he grabbed it up just before beating his wings as hard as he could to catch up.
Erik was already downstairs by the time Kro caught up. He had run the whole way and was now racing from room to room trying to find the elf. Once he found him, even if the elf tried to throw a greeting or question in, Erik plowed over Ay's efforts. "Ay can you track people cause my little siblings ******** disappeared this morning and only left a note saying they'd be back Sunday Mom and I have no ******** clue where they are and we're both freaking out and I don't even know for sure they're heading this way but they don't have money for tickets so how could they e coming here and I'd ******** die if anything happens to them." Even as he relayed the events he was still fidgety and had half a mind to fly out of the house (maybe literally) and start looking who knows where.

Ayluin had welcomed the calm time that they had entered in right now. With everything that had been going on suddenly, the elf had felt a little overwhelmed, but the past days he had slowly reverted to his completely calm self again. Of course he still got up early most of the time because that was what he was used to and it came in handy when he had a gardening assignment. Right now he had a calm time because most gardens were in a winter calm. The few times he had to go and trim the bushes at people’s gardens were not very intensive work. The moonelf was enjoying the quiet while he could, as he knew well that come Spring his fast growth magic would likely be needed again.
He had gotten up early that day too and quietly made himself ready, as to not wake Erik. Ayluin didn’t mind them sleeping in when they could. Everyone had their own rhythm. Once he had finished with his shower and eating a light breakfast he had gone straight to the room where he now kept most plants. It was built in the attic and had a climate system to enable it to bloom tropical flowers. The moonelf would sell these flowers to those interested as a side job to the now quiet gardening market. He had spent some time there already and found out that he forgot some seeds that he planned to grow today. "Hm, I best go get them." he muttered before he got out of the attic and went downstairs humming all the way.
This calm was broken however when he walked back into the house and almost straight into Erik. Ayluin raised a hand to greet them, but before he could say good morning, they were saying something about siblings and a mom. The moonelf blinked in surprise, startled, at this information. He had never even known if Erik’s family was still alive, let alone he had siblings. It only took a short moment though as the situation was clearly dire. From what he could understand from Erik’s sudden wave of information they sounded rather young and they were out there without their mother knowing where they were? "Wowa, back up a little." he said, his hands raised a bit to make a soothing gesture, meaning they had to get back on track.
He had picked up a few words of slang here and there while living in Soleil these past months. "I can’t track people, I don’t have that ability." he said first, trying to find a way to calm them if only a little bit. "But tell me, one more time, what is going on? Siblings? Mom? When were they last seen or heard from? And how far can they get without tickets?" he asked, clearly worried about the news as well and going by the assumption they were minors at the very least. They were hardly going to benefit from Erik getting overpowered by panic though, no matter how hard it might be for him. "If we know that, I can help you search." he offered. He wouldn’t mind searching high and low for them, but he did need a more constructive description of the situation! Or it would be like trying to grasp air.

Calm was not in the day’s forecast, but as the elf made him go back and explain things, he at least slowed down enough to only be fidgeting madly and speaking quickly. ”Mom called just a sec ago. The kids, my little brothers and sisters, are all gone. They left her a note saying they would be back on Sunday. The only thing either of us could think is they are coming here. They all wouldn’t have left for anyone else. We don’t think. Last seen…last seen was the boys, Bobby and Justin, at three this morning. Mom happened to wake up and decided to check on them. If-if they left immediately after, on foot, they could have gotten no more than twenty miles from downtown Cleveland. But what if they got a lift? No, Mary’s smarter than that, but if it was a friend of her’s or the Gjonis…with a potential eight and a half hour head-start they could be several states over by now. And I can’t guarantee they don’t have tickets. It’s been almost two years and she’s so thrifty. She could have picked up odd jobs like I did and made a tidy sum in summers. They would all qualify for reduced-rate travel… s**t, I have no ******** idea how far they could have gotten. Mom’s got everyone she knows canvasing the city probably. That just leaves every ******** bus or train stop or airport between here and Cleveland.” He had faith in his little siblings, he had taught them well and the city had probably toughened them up, but they were still kids. This was easily a parent’solder brother’s worst nightmare. ”Here’s who we’re looking for,” he said as he pulled out his phone and quickly pulled up a selfie Mary had taken with his sibs a couple weeks ago. ”There’s six of them: Mary’s the oldest at twelve, Justin the youngest at two. Their family name is Geldoff.” He went ahead and forwarded the pic to Ay’s phone so that he would have it just in case he ran into them. ”If you find them, they aren’t going to know the name Erik. They know me by my real name, Sora. Sora Mimirson, specifically.” Under normal circumstances he would not have even begun to hint at the possibility he was anyone besides who he said he was, but if Ay found them the elf would need to convince them to trust him. Why he had lied about his name could be hashed out later. ”Should one of us stay here in case they slip by us, or should we both watch stations, and I’ll keep my phone on me in case they call and I’ll call them every minute but should I give them your number just in case? But why would they call you and not me?” He was starting to get flighty once again, literally. He had half a mind to just transform where he was, grab the phone in his talons and fly off to make a circuit of every possible point they might enter the city. Whoever suggested putting GPS trackers in kids was going to get his vote of support after this, saying he found them-

Ayluin was awake rather early that day. Though to be fair he hadn’t slept much at all. He felt worried for the children. When they started searching yesterday the moonelf hadn’t stopped until Erik had asked him to go home and rest. They made a valid argument about it not helping if they would both be exhausted and also that if the kids came to the house, someone would need to be there to let them in. The young man had agreed to go home then and rest up so he could take over later in case it was needed still. He had arrived home pretty late, cold to the bone after all those hours outside, especially when the temperature had dropped to 42, but he hadn’t regretted his decision. Ayluin had made some food for them all and placed it in the fridge before hanging a note so Erik would know it was there when they would return. Once he had gone to bed, he hadn’t been able to fall asleep so easily and perhaps slept just enough to refill his energy.
Still when morning came he was right out of bed. Quickly the moonelf walked through the house without even bothering with socks or anything, but it looked like he was still alone. ’Did Erik stay out all night?’ he thought to himself, now feeling worried for both Erik and Kro and the kids. Ayluin was about to run to the shower to quickly get ready to look for them now too, but he remembered what Erik had said. If he left now, the house would be locked and empty once more. The moonelf sighed as he realized he couldn’t look for Erik. He took the shower either way and got dressed before he started to work on breakfast. The food of the evening before had indeed been untouched which was proof that Erik hadn’t come home. To have something to do and distract himself from his worries, Ayluin turned on the television, ate breakfast and did some tasks around the house to stay busy. He made sure he would hear it if the doorbell rang or if Erik came home.

Damn straight Erik had stayed out all night, even if it was cold and he hadn’t dressed too warmly. He had raised most of those kids himself, and the thought that something bad may have happened to them kept him constantly alert and roving around transport terminals and the paths from terminals towards the house. At least he wasn’t walking or running, no, when surveillance was key, flying could not be beat and so he had remained in his bird form all night and on in to the morning. When he turned back it would deplete him horribly, but he had lived through worse when he was out on the streets. He and Kro had split up to cover more ground, but they still kept in touch by getting other corvids to relay messages for them. Even better, at least a little bit of the corvid population was out looking for them as well. It was a fairly young crow who spotted them about a block away from Ay’s house. He alerted the first crow he saw who then ran it up the chain of communication until it finally reached Erik and Kro who were both mid-flight. Kro bee-lined for the house whilst Erik landed on a branch and tried something he had never done before: he was going to call Ay up without switching forms. Thankfully corvids were handy and he was able to get the phone up and running and could dial the number in with his beak. The phone barely rang once before Ay picked up. ”Hey, it’s me, Erik. A crow just spotted them about a block from the house. I’ll be there as quick as I can, but they will get there first.” As soon as Ay finished his piece (if he had anything to say) Erik hung up the phone and swooped out of the tree, gaining as much momentum as he could before pulling up and soaring through the air like a feathery torpedo.
”We’re almost there, I promise,” Mary reassured the tired younglings. She had only had enough money to get a taxi from the train station to the edge of the neighborhood and so they had been forced to walk the rest of the way. Bobby would sometimes carry some of the younger ones when they got too tired, but Mary had been carrying Justin the whole time. ”We really should have called him, Mary. We don’t even know if he’s around or not.” ”Where else would he be first thing in the morning? Besides, just think how happy we’ll all be when we see each other again! It’ll be the best surprise ever.” Bobby wasn’t too sure about that, but Mary was in charge and there was no sense in arguing. He sped ahead to the front of the little group and read off house numbers. ”Hey! It’s this one with all of the trees.” His pronouncement happened at the exact same moment Erik was getting off of the phone with Ay. All of them got their second wind and hurried up to the house, though whether they’d get a chance to knock or if Ay would already be heading out to spot them was a matter of seconds.

Ayluin just finished the last needed task in the house when he heard his phone ring. The moonelf lost not a moment before he picked up and answered Erik’s call. He didn’t expect much news yet, but it was good to hear from the other. He was pleasantly surprised to hear they were close! "That is great news! I will open the door right away." he managed to tell Erik before the phone was hung up. Ayluin pocketed his phone again as he walked to the door quickly. The moment he opened it he could feel the cold air hit him without his jacket and he shivered. He was so not made for this weather, but he ignored it for now as he moved outside quickly so he could see them coming. It sounded like they had been really close and sure enough the moment he stepped off the path from his garden onto the streets, he could see the group of kids walking in the direction of their house.
The young man smiled, relieved to see they all seemed safe and sound. Tired maybe as was to be expected but at least in good health. "Hello, my name is Ayluin and I am a friend of your brother Sora’s. I’m so glad to see you all. Your brother has been frantic and we have been looking for you. Come on in quickly, Sora is on his way and it is warmer inside." he said as he motioned for them to come to the garden and into the house. With the kids found, now Ay’s priority was to give them something to drink, eat and get them out of the cold into the warmer house. Though the house wasn’t extremely warm, despite Ayluin’s preference. It was kept somewhat average so they both felt comfortable in their home.
Of course Ayluin couldn’t be sure they would indeed follow him, a stranger, so he waited patiently for their reaction. It was still odd to call his friend Sora instead of Erik. It wasn’t until yesterday that he learned of their real name. More secrets had been uncovered in one swoop but it had not been the time to ask about it. The moonelf would wait for the right time, his curiosity could wait. If they would indeed follow him in, the first thing that Ayluin would do was to grab something warm to drink for them, anything they wanted.

When she saw someone other than her brother coming out of the house Mary held the others back cautiously. When Ay introduced himself though she sighed in relief. ”Sora told me he was renting from someone named Ayluin. That’s too uncommon of a name to be coincidence. Come on guys, it’s safe to follow.” The twins and Delilah lit out for the house and didn’t stop running even when they got in. They had heard their big brother wasn’t there so it was time to explore the giant house. The others scurried in out of the, well, cool and waited with obvious awe at the mansion they found themselves in. "Whoa, Sora really lives here!? This place is huge!" The second oldest girl exclaimed as she looked around the hall. "Mr. Ayluin, are you a billionaire?" "Ruth," Mary scolded, "it's not polite to ask people about their money." "But I'm not being mean." Mary sighed then turned to Ayluin, "Sorry about them. We've never been in a fancy house like this before and we're all just really excited to see our brother. It's been almost two years since we've last seen him." In the distance, the three kids who had rushed in could be heard tearing through the house at breakneck speed exploring every room. At least no one had heard anything break yet.
Erik was making record time getting back to the house. It seriously helped when you could just fly over everything in your path. A block away from the house he landed near some bushes, transforming mid-landing so as not to waste a moment. He landed running, covering the block in about ten seconds. Even though he knew they were alright and they would not disappear on him, the urgency to be with them as soon as possible gripped at his chest and amped up his adrenaline so high he thought he might collapse in a twitching pile. He skidded to a stop barely in time to avoid slamming into the door then practically threw the poor door open. As soon as he had crossed the threshold the twins, Delilah, and Ruth themselves at him in a tackle hug (they had seen him coming from the upstairs window and so had rushed down to be ready to pounce). Erik dropped to his knees so he was their height and embraced them all in a pile. Bobby, not entirely sure what he was supposed to do, approached his big brother calmly and hugged him He was the vice adult in the household now, not acting like a child was part of his job description, but this was his brother… ”It’s so good to see you, I was so worried about you all! Please, don’t ever disappear like that.” They stayed like that for several minutes before the younger ones started getting restless and wriggled their way free. ”I’ll call Mom, don’t worry about it. Would you mind holding Justin for me?” She said with a sly smile, knowing full well she didn’t need to give him an excuse. ”Yeah, sure,” he replied, a touch of nervousness on his voice. Mary handed the child over. ”Justin, this is your big brother Sora. Are you going to say hello?” For a moment the child had frozen in nervousness and dread filled Sora’s heart, but as soon as Justin heard the name he smiled. ”Da-da!” ”Sorry, it is a 50/50 he’ll call you that or your name. But your name was the first word he said. Alright, off to make that call.” If one were to ask him, he was only sweating through his eyes just a little, but Mary’s comment was the cause. To hide his emotions, he started playing with Justin: claw attack, flying, the works.
”Sora,” Delilah interrupted some time later, ”you’re really skinny. Is Mr. Ay’s food that bad?” ”Wha- no, not at all.” ”So why?” ”What is it with kids and asking questions you really don’t want to answer?””Walking a lot makes you lose weight, and I walked all of the way from where Mom lives to here. It was a long long walk, so I lost a lot. But I’m fine, don’t worry. Speaking of, have you all had anything to eat? I’ll fix something up for all of us.”
It was a good thing that Erik warned Ay beforehand that his siblings would probably distrust the moonelf unless he mentioned their real name, or this behavior of Mary would have shocked him a bit. Then again, ever since that event in the alley, Ayluin had also become more cautious himself and he understood the need a lot better. Instead of being startled he now kept his gentle demeanor and spoke the words that he hoped would assure the children that he was safe to follow and that he was a friend of their brother. And the result was instant. The moment Mary let the younger ones go ahead they whisked passed Ayluin as he was walking back inside and he saw them run straight into the hallways and check out the place. The moonelf chuckled a bit and shook his head with a smile. They sure were energetic. The young man walked in after them with the older ones in tow.
When he got back inside he closed the door for now to keep the cold out. Erik had keys of course, since he lived here as well now, so he didn’t need to leave it open for them to get in. Ayluin was a little surprised when he heard Ruth’s question though. But before he could answer, Mary already corrected her. It lightly reminded the young man of his time at the highelves and he felt kind of glad it wasn’t aimed at him. Ayluin smiled and shook his head. "It’s quite alright, I can understand the curiosity." he said calmly before he looked at Ruth again. "I wouldn’t say I’m a billionaire, but I do have my own little company that works on gardens and it generates quite some income. So have fun and help yourself." he said, giving the girl a wink. Even if something would break, Ayluin wouldn’t be troubled over it. He had plenty of money to live this lifestyle and material possessions could easily be replaced. It was no issue to him.
He had just asked about drinks and food and was about to turn back to Mary, who seemed to surrogate as a sort of parent, when the door opened hard and Ayluin jumped a little before he turned around just in time to see Erik come storming in. It didn’t take long at all before all the siblings were hugging. The moonelf smiled at the sight. It looked like there was no love lost between the brothers and sister. It almost made him wonder how his life might have been if he hadn’t been an only child. But he didn’t linger on that thought since he soon enough corrected himself. He wouldn’t wish anyone a life like that. He had been kept in the palace or palace grounds most of the time, he had sat through boring lessons and been told the world was different than it was and not before he moved to Soleil did he learn about his true kin, that he wasn’t a highelf but a moonelf. ‘What more had they lied about?’ he had to wonder as he had slowly begun to second guess all he knew about them, himself and his past.
For a moment the young man watched as the interactions were taking place. He didn’t even feel insulted when Delilah asked about his food. Instead it made him chuckle. But his question if they wanted something to drink or eat had gone completely missed it seemed. He could understand though, after all it had been a long time by the sound of it. Since they seemed to be busy together, the moonelf decided to go to the kitchen to just fill glasses with lemonade. Ayluin was partial to that sweet stuff himself he had to admit. He grabbed enough glasses for all of them, put some lemonade in and added water as he heard Erik make sounds he never heard from them before. The moonelf was about to pick up the tray when a sudden gust of wind threw open the window just above the counter and only narrowly missed his head. With a surprised yelp, Ayluin jumped back and shielded his eyes from the wind coming in until it felt like it was over, which was in seconds though it felt longer.
Ayluin carefully opened his eyes and lowered his arms so he could look at the window to see what the heck had happened. To his surprise he was met with the sight of a beautiful blue bird which stood tall and proud as they seemed to stare back at the elf, it felt like their eyes were piercing his soul. Slightly hesitant, Ayluin watched their every move, though when they started walking towards him he was surprised with something entirely different. ’Finally, I found you. Ayluin Lunasa. Do you have any idea how hard it is to track you from this far away? What on earth got into you boy?! Hiding all the way on another continent?’ The voice was deep, especially for a bird, and somewhat demanding yet it didn’t lack respect towards the moonelf before them. The young man was surprised, that was quite a sizable bird, perhaps barely able to hit on his shoulder if it was necessary.
’I can tell you are surprised, but questions can be asked later. I can hear you have company.’ the bird added and then spread his wings and flew to the living room where he heard the voices. "Uh...yes..." Ayluin stammered just before they were out of earshot. The phoenix’ voice had sounded...so familiar for some reason. The elf blinked a bit as he could hardly believe what just happened. This had to be the strangest evening ever. Still they seemed to not have an ill will towards them. Ayluin sighed deeply, closed the window and shook his head before he picked up the tray and walked back to the living room as well. "I have lemonade for those interested." he told the group before him and smiled again as he watched the scene before him of so much playing and fun. He then looked around to see the new bird wandering around the room looking at the closets and devices.
