The Valtier is a hierarchy of vampiric society. It originated with The Twelve Ancients during the Archaic Period (700 BC – 100 AD) . It was then when the Law of the Twelve was created and vampires were sworn to secrecy. It was around this time that the Twelve decided to apply a population control to their society. It was ordered that only the Twelve were allowed to have vampiric children. Only those deserving of the blood were allowed to enter the brotherhood.
During the early decades of the Valtier, when the numbers of vampires dwindled due to the population control, that the term brotherhood was created. Vampires traveled together as close-knit clans or covens. Some preferred to stay in one location while others lived as nomads. While there were different families originating from the Twelve, all of them stayed relatively close to one another. This resulted in the Valtier Empire. The vampires within this empire had a population of approximately eight hundred brothers and sisters. This number stayed the same until the Great Massacre during the birth of the Roman Empire. A military group of Roman Catholics came upon a group of approximately seven hundred fifty vampires. While vampires are supremely powerful, numbers outmatched their strength. This left fifty children of the Twelve, the Valtier Empire was dissolved and the Valtier Brotherhood was created.
