A large space-station orbits the desolate moon of an ice-giant. It is manned by 15,000 personnel of varying tasks. Some are sanitation staff, engineers, guards, administrative staff, and so on. There are however 5,000 other residents aboard Space Station “Lock” Prisoners. “Lock” is a prison for those who were deemed too dangerous for normal prison populations, or those deemed too dangerous for the political agendas of certain officials. Either way, Prisoners aboard the “Lock” are there for life, however long...or short that is.

One day the body of a guard is found. It is at first believed that is was one of the prisoners. Then prisoners begin to turn up dead. It becomes the task of the Station Security investigators to find out the cause, but soon it becomes apparent that another hand is at work. The bodies of the victims begin to go missing, followed by sightings of those same victims in different places on the ship.

Through investigation and a few close calls, the investigators find out that there is a group of terrorists aboard the station killing people and infecting them with a virus that reanimates the corpses into cannibalistic hosts controlled by a parasite. Their goal is to make the lock crash into a nearby inhabited world and spread the infection in order to "unite" humanity in "immortality" as hosts for their "symbiotic gods" whom they call "the Residing Deity".
