Welcome to Gaia! ::

I'm not sure if anyone else is like this, but I'm a nocturnal writer. I can only write when the sun goes down and the rest of my family is asleep. Maybe it's just the combination of the adrenaline rush and the thrill of being able to do whatever the hell I want, but my work always turns out sub-par if don't write it on the right side of midnight.

Does anyone have any advice to help get me over this hurdle?
"The right side of midnight"...

I like that phrase. Did you get it from somewhere, or did you come up with that yourself.

Becuase If its the latter...

I'm likely to plagerise it.
I've noticed I really jolt into writing and hit my stride somewhere in the neighborhood of 3 am.
We're creatures of habit. If you always right after dark, after dark is when your brain is going to be in a writing mood. So the only way to break that is to force yourself to write at a better time. For the first few weeks, you won't feel like it. It will be difficult for you to get into the groove or to think of things to write. Try just free-writing until you get into the habit. If you need help coming up with things to free-write about, join my guild (link in my signature). I post new topics every weekday.

Make sure you practice every single day and try to make it at the same time (for example, at 7pm every night). You can write at other times too, but make sure that you are writing at your set time.

After a while, your brain will shift and this will be the time when you feel most creative. And, since you will actually be awake and alert, your writing will most likely be much better.
All I can suggest, is to try finding an earlier time of the day when you can still maintain privacy.
I will admit to once having this problem, and I even pulled an all-nighter or two in the pursuit of a finished piece.
I don't finish much any more, because I can't often find a time or place that is privet. So my best advice to you is to find some place that is privet, regardless of the time of day, and write there.

I've had this same problem. I used to be able to only write in the middle of the night, but recently I've forced myself to write in the day as well. (so now I do both and still never sleep. xd ) But at least now I can write both times, and my work is generally equally good.

You may just have to make yourself write in the day. Your stuff may be crap at first, but it'll get better.
I'm the type that writes, or anything creative for that matter, sometime after 1am, or later. Hahaha, i'm usually a zombie during the day since I stay up all night, sometimes until 7am or more...because I want to get something done while i'm in such a creative mood. XD
I feel your pain. I too can only write in the wee hours of the night. But I can only write on weekends because my school starts at fricken six in the morning. stare

But I have started writing when I get home from school because most of my family isn't home (brothers at school, dad's at work)
I'm the same way. Usually at 2:30 am I start getting the buzz. Can't shake it, been like this my entire life. And good lord do I get hopped up on many different sorts of teas...
I love tea. xP Especially Jasmine Green Tea...or sometimes peppermint with lots of honey. XD
I always write at night because I simply can't during the day... every time I sit down and start writing one of my parents is always like, "Come downstairs for some completely pointless reason!" Down the stairs. Up the stairs. And then it starts all over again.

Nah. It's my own. Feel free you use if you want though, I'd be honored ^.^

Thank God I'm not alone. That's what I was scared of >.< Yeah, my school starts really early too.
I can't help you. I have the same problem. *disappears back into the shadows*
The trick is to stop creating all these moronically ritualistic practices for yourself and to sit down, any time of day, and say to yourself:

"I'm ******** going to write, now."

I write mostly at night because that's when my schedule generally allows. When I get a chance to get some work done during the day, though, I take advantage of it.

Really, It's a rather basic component of becoming a competent practitioner of the art.
